The staff here were soooo friendly and helpful. Most of the front desk staff speak decent English and are super helpful. My fiance felt that the privaye onsen was a bit too hot and they were very quick in allowing us to use another one with slightly milder temperatures. The numerous reviews of the lack of cleanliness in the hotel have either been overstated or addressed. The room was very large and clean. The reviews of the onsen having algae are understandably ignorant, the algae is something that onsen enthusiasts enjoy because it (supposedly) has incredibly positive effects on your skin, and is a sign that the onsen water has not been treated with harsh chemicals. The food was incredible and you should definitely opt for the half board. Both breakfasts and dinners we had were a huge spread and very filling, we did have issues breathing after finishing our meals. It is regrettable that there are so many negative reviews which I feel are quite unfair after staying here, as they definitely did make me second guess my choice to stay here. The place has been a bit worn with age but this has only lent to its charm. The futon beds were very comfortable, and better than the ones we slept on at more expensive ryokans. I wish that the gift shop was a bit more well stocked. I hope to return to see this establishment rejuvenated in the future. Perhaps if the garden was restored and certain parts of the hotel refreshed, it would be a truly exceptional stay.

A good location to stay in Hirayu Onsen as it is about 3 mins walk from the Bus Terminal. This Hotel is good as it comes with a relatively big room similar to Ryokan style rooms Tatami Mats and Futon bed. The Hotel has open air Public Onsen and Private Onsen for couples/family. We just made a reservation at the front desk for the Private Onsen. The Onsen is free for Hotel Guests. There is also in-hotel Dinner and Breakfast service but reservations have to made in advance. The Dinner was reasonably priced and good. Check-in service by the Front Desk Staff Hiroki-san was friendly, fast and efficient as he is able to communicate with good english. Hiroki-san was also excellent in providing to our other needs and requests during our 3 nights stay. Good job Nakamurakan 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

This hotel is like from another space!! Very beautifully conceived and all hallways decorated with large vitrines with the most extravagant and beautiful pieces of antiques!! From beautiful sculptures and vases to exquisite carvings and other large and small objects!! Room very large (VERY large for Japanese conditions!!) very nicely decorated and comfortable!! Private Onsen bath on open air !!! What a pleasure!! Dinner and breakfast were SUPER!!! Absolute must to take dinner!!! Absolutely delicious for taste and eyes!!!

The only issue is a bit of lack of maintenance of hotel structures as it is getting a bit old. However, NO real problem as it has an incredible charm in spite a bit old look!!!

Onsen facilities were excellent. Both Public as well as private ( open air) Onsen were available. location is perfect with 2 minutes walk from bus stop and 1 minute away from convenience store. Room was spacious with a good futons on Japanese style Tatami floor. Staff was very helpful and courteous.

nothing in particular but it would be good if they provide instant coffee and Milk/ creamer in room.

The onsen were great - indoor, outdoor and private onsens! Really good! I didn't realise there was a sauna until after it had closed. The room itself was fine, large and the beds were comfortable. Tea-making facilities was a nice touch. Variety of soaps, cleansers and moisturisers was great, added luxury to the onsen experience. Most staff were friendly and helpful, the man on the front counter was especially helpful and fluent in English. The Ping pong table was a bonus. Being able to book breakfast and dinner was very good.

The place is looking a little aged, especially for the price, though it looks like they are working on it. The meals were just okay. We stayed in a better Ryokan not too far away which cost less and had a tastier kaiseki meal. The extra charge for use of the private onsen after 9pm was disappointing. The statues and wood carvings added interest and character, but the stuffed animals on display are not appropriate in this age. Overall, a good experience, but pricey.

Location is good for taking a bus to kamichoji.

Hotel is outdated. One of private onsen is slippery and feel like slimmy when steps in.
