Fantastic location, right in the heart of all the action! If you are active all the attractions can be walked to but if you wanted to get subways/trains you have 34th, Penn and 28th all withing a few minutes walk. All the staff I saw/spoke to were very friendly and always had a smile. Definitely a great place if you are after simple/basic and clean for a reasonably priced hotel in a central location. I stayed for 6 days, I was out everyday all day and only returned to shower and sleep, it was perfect for the 2 of us! In a city that doesn't sleep it is noisy but don't worry as there is a bowl with earplugs in the reception! Overall I would stay here again due to its great location.
The window was slightly broken and very hard to lock shut. Wifi wasn't very stable. The paint work was a bit slap happy, paint on curtains and fittings. Mould on grout in shower. The bathroom light was on a sensor not a switch so getting up in the night for a pee the fan would start which was quite loud.

The location is the best, center of the city and the hotel is easy to find. Its Just across Madison square garden and penn station and stone throw away from moynihan train hall. I took The traine from Airport to Jamaica station and then to penn station, that easy. For the price, I say it worth the money. You don't share bathroom which I find most convenient You have your own private bathroom and the room I had 201 was very spacious. The AC was cool, there is a flat screen TV, the bed was comfy. Bathroom was clean, with basic stuffs. I would definitely stay here again. The constant noise of the police sirens and people talking outside is kinda cool, you can feel the nYC vibes. It's on 8 ave, and only 15 minutes or less walk to Times Square, Empire state building is visible from the hotel, a little 10 minutes walk. The fact it's only less than 3 minutes away to the Penn Station makes it' a good place to stay. Easy access to mrt to anywhere. Clean hallway and very friendly staffs.
The wifi connection can improve but I was able to connect somehow. There is no elevator but considering the age of the building,it's fine. I arrived a bit early but there was no one in the reception, had to go somewhere and go back after a couple of hours. Everything went smoothly after that.

Location was great and the room and inside of the hotel felt very safe. Before entering or exiting the hotel in the evening you had to punch in a security code at the lobby door to get inside. Felt very safe.
Approaching the building I was a little worried because the entrance is kind of hidden and didn't seem like it was in the safest area, but once inside my reservations were put at ease and I felt safe. The room was small but that was to be expected- however the bathroom was quite small. The sink was difficult to even brush your teeth in, but for a budget traveler it wasn't the end of the world.

When we booked the place, we did not have high expectations given the budget provided for the accommodation, but when we arrived at the place and spent the days there we found a clean place, with excellent service and extremely convenient geographically. It is important to add that they were attentive to our requests and opted for a good service with us, as on the last day when we asked them to take care of our luggage while we finished seeing the attractions we had left before leaving for the airport.
Luckily there was nothing I could complain about as such, the service, location and comfort is more than recommendable for the price they offer!

Staff were lovely and very helpful. The room was much bigger than expected and while it looked nothing like the pictures I was pleasantly surprised by the decor etc. Heating couldn’t be controlled from the room but the room was never cold in spite of the weather outside. Fantastic location, central to everything and the room/building felt secure. Would definitely return and would recommend to any solo female traveler.
Considering how affordable the room was, no complaints whatsoever.

Unbeatable location an easy 2 minute stroll from train station, 15 minute walk to Times Square and Empire State. The place was clean and just as described. Beds and bathroom were good. Yes, rooms are small, yes there is New York street noise. But for the price, as a base for exploring it was perfect and great value.
It isn’t a holiday stay accommodation, just a clean bed and bathroom. But it is described like that, and I can’t ask for more than transparency and no surprises. Otherwise, no complaints.

There are lots of less than stellar reviews about this hotel but we thought they were unduly negative. The room was clean and filled our needs for a very fair price. Staff were mainly helpful (although being New Yorkers not necessarily the most polite people we ever came across.) The location is very good, local to Penn Station and connecting rail and subway services, next to Madison Sq Gardens and not far from the Empire State Building and Time Square.
The area is noisy and there are lots of homeless hanging around. The room wasn’t double glazed - which on occasion led us to check the window wasn’t ACTUALLY open - and that meant it could be very noisy but ear plugs (provided gratis at reception) helped me and my wife to sleep well. One minor eccentricity was that our double bed was pushed up against the window. That meant that if I needed to use the bathroom I had to crawl over my sleeping wife to get to it and back!

I think people unfairly compare this place to a fine lodging, but it doesn't hold itself out as a 4 star hotel. It is very Basic. I would liken it almost to a dorm room or pensionne. My room was pretty comfy but very small -- which is exactly how it's depicted in the photos. The lobby is basically a counter. The staff were very friendly. The security seemed OK. The reason I booked there is bc it's 1 min from Madison Square Garden and I knew I'd be too tired after the concert to fool with Horrendous NYC traffic. Good AC. No extra linens. As long as you don't book this very inexpensive lodging and expect the Ri+z, you'll be fine.
No elevator but that is clearly disclosed. The air freshener is overwhelming. Even though the dispenser is in the hall, the scent [not bad] permeates every inch of the room. When I asked if anything could be done about it they said they could remove it the following day, but I was leaving then.

Even though the hotel is basic and has no lift ( only four floors ) the cleanliness was way above the four star hotel i stayed in last year. Location was excellent with very easy access to subway, trains and buses. Also close to lots of pubs, restaurants and takeaways. I felt very safe with the security front door.
Just the lack of lift, although i reqested a low floor on booking and got a great single room with plenty of room and a large bed

I like the location very much, is close to everything and it has Penn Station right around the corner. Is kind of self check-in and they give you a password and a key to enter every time; so after the first "wellcome" you don't actually have to see anyone if you don't want to. It has a few eating locations nearby and rooms are small (what isn't? It's NYC!) but it has everything on it. A bed, a shower and a desk. Even a window.
Is self check and in day one I forgot the password and spent like 20 minutes ringing the bell b4 the girl got up and ut to open it; staff is not frendly at all, polite enough to not hate them. The halls are kind of norrows and a bit lonley for me (solo female travel) but after I close my door, i felt safe enough. They clean the room every three days so I never saw any cleaning lady. You pay more for location and safeness than anything else.
