A very warm welcome from the owners, Nikky and Richard. Our room was comfortable and spacious with a private bathroom, plus great facilities such as free wifi and Sky, (and free Sky movies). A spacious, beer garden to the rear with secure off street parking. Great choice of locally produced beers and spirits available and exceptional food on offer. Both the meals we had in the bar and our breakfasts were very high quality, again using locally produced ingredients. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners during our stay and we have enjoyed a very relaxed and comfortable couple of nights here. This is a dog friendly hotel which is spotlessly clean. We will definitely be visiting again. We cannot recommend The Smiddy Haugh enough!
Nothing, apart from our stay wasn't long enough!

We parked up and arrived through the back entrance of the guest house. Really warm welcome, (lovely pub garden area) so helpful, just felt comfortable. Up to our room, lovely lay out. Enough space and everything you would need for your stay. Hair dryer, tea & coffee facilities, and loads!! of places to plug in, yay!! The dining room looked lovely but we did not use it.
I would have to be incredibly picking to think of even one thing I did not like, they had just had new carpet fitted in our room and a joiner had not been in to take a tiny bit off the door so it closed easily. Otherwise it was perfect.

The Smiddy Haugh is in an excellent location for traveling up to, or home from, the top of Scotland. We had a long drive home south, and this was perfectly placed to stop for the night, traveling home after driving from the Stromness/Scrabster ferry after visiting Orkney. The rooms were very traditional, spotlessly clean & comfortable. The staff were lovely and the food was excellent, including the breakfast. We would definitely stay there again.
I can't think of anything that I would criticise. Everything met our expectations and we were very happy to stay there. If you're looking for a modern hotel this is not it, but if you're looking for a comfortable B&B in a great location, this is it.

We loved the warm welcome when we arrived and really appreciated the help with our heavy bags. We loved the old building. Our room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and very friendly. We enjoyed our meal in the evening - tasty and a good-sized portion. We would definitely recommend and would stay here again.
This is a personal preference only and I should probably have requested this when I ordered breakfast but I would have liked both the bacon and scrambled egg to be a little better cooked - slightly under-done for me. Otherwise we were very happy with everything.

The Smiddy Haugh is a beautiful Inn run by a lovely couple (and their dog). The room was spacious and comfortable with a big tv and full sky package. Our room looked onto the beer garden which was also lovely (I spent a sunny afternoon there whilst my hubby was off skydiving). Food was fantastic (highly recommend the scrambled egg with breakfast) we sat in the bar on Saturday evening and played cards it was just a great break. The friendly hosts really make this place, they couldn’t do enough for us, genuinely friendly people.
Only thing that was missing was a bath.

From the moment on arrival we were met with smiles and friendliness by (Laura I think that was the woman's name) and both Nicky and Richard made our stay so welcoming. Especially the warm welcome from Jasper the dog. This place is dog friendly but your never bothered by them unless you like too clap them, the locals we met were extremely friendly and happy to chat with you. The owners and staff could not do anything more for you, they went out their way to make your feel like one of the family. We had dinner there, and it was so fresh and tasty (loved the chicken pakora) and the sea bass and steak was cooked to perfection. Breakfast was also good, a selection of cereals, yogurts and fruit to start, then your cooked breakfast was ample and was more than enough to keep you going for the day. We came in as guests and left as friends, we'll be back again to stay and to come for lunch. Thank you all so much for a lovely stay and making us welcome - Mandy and Mike x
Nothing we enjoyed our stay.

Very comfortable, large family room. Stayed with our toddler and dog. Outside area perfect for taking the dog out. Sky TV for emergency toddler entertainment. Breakfast was exceptional. We had dinner in the pub too which was great.
WiFi didn't work in our room, but 4G coverage for data so not a problem. Private bathroom is outside the room (next door). Again, not an issue for us but just to be aware

Very clean, quiet and recently redecorated, in fact, it looked like the whole place has been recently refurbished. Bar food was also very good and the owners were extremely friendly and welcoming
Wi-Fi didn’t work in the room and the shower wasn’t the greatest however, the room and bathroom were great in all other respects.

Breakfast was very good. All staff were very friendly ,helpful and professional. We loved the ambience in the bar. All local people were also friendly and liked to chat. Our evening meal was also excellent.
We are a little concerned that our ‘private bathroom’ was not within our room, it was just outside the bedroom door. Unfortunately we are a more mature couple who frequently require to visit the bathroom during the night. As it happened we didn’t meet anyone on the landing during the night.

What a lovely warm welcome. Very dog friendly. Lovely filling breakfast. Lovely evening meals. The service was exceptional. Super buzz in the bar. Jasper the Owner’s Black Labrador is a great wee welcoming addition. Nice beer garden for those long summer evenings. Parking at the rear for cars. The room was very spacious and clean. Very comfortable bed with really nice bedding. The en-suite was spotless and big for an en-suite. The owners are very knowledgeable about the locality and nearby places to visit. The village is handy for visiting Glasgow, Perth, Dundee, Stirling and Fife. Lots to see and do in the area. We’ll be staying again.
Nothing- it’s a fab location, fab wee place.
