#Best UK Country Inn, #Best British Pub Stay "Best Traditional Country Pub England. Please don't take my word for it. All the locals love it so much that the community bought the 200-year-old Inn, restored it, they're running it, and it's charming. There's a bar area, a dining room, and a more casual lounge and event space. They support and sell local artists' paintings, photography, and other locally made items. Enjoy the large outdoor terrace, partly covered by a traditional roof, behind the historic inn. If you want to experience the English countryside but avoid being in the middle of a tourist zone, go off the beaten path and stay here and enjoy the peace and beauty. Still, it's right at the edge of the Cotswolds, the West Somerset Railway, Exmoor, and the picturesque wild coast and ideally located to get to all the spots in Southwest England. They have a diverse, delicious menu for breakfast, lunch, a cup of coffee or cocktails, or dinner, a full bar, an excellent selection of wine and beer on tap, and they're open extensively. The team members are proud to work there, so the service is exceptional. Their professional machine serves artisanal, high-quality drinks, and breakfast is plentiful and delicious. People talk about supporting the community, but you can have a wonderful stay while supporting the community, so stay here and stay nowhere else. It's well worth the detour, even just for a meal. The rooms have all been remodeled and nicely decorated instead of a jumble of furniture. The bathrooms are spotlessly clean and modern with all the facilities. They have a great selection of high-quality tea and cookies in your quiet, cheerful room with a nice forest view. It's just what you want, the ideal country Inn in the U.K.

Nothing, I am coming back to stay soon!

Very comfortable room, which was also spotlessly clean. It is a very friendly hotel, which is community owned and community focussed. It's lovely to see how busy the bar and restaurant are in the evenings, being the main place where people living in the village congregate. It was a pleasure to see this, and experience the positive "vibe" that this gives. Great staff, who communicated promptly ahead of our visit, and who welcomed us very warmly. The restaurant menu offered great choice, including vegan dishes.

Maybe more breakfast variety, but as it was, it really was sufficient for our needs.

This was a lovely, welcoming place to stay in a remote little village. The room was clean and comfortable and the atmosphere was very friendly. We had been warned a) that the restaurant would be closed due to a private event and b) there would be some noise until around midnight. However, we were assured that sandwiches could be provided for us. As we were out for the evening this was a good arrangement. In the event it was even better - we were invited to partake of the party buffet (which was excellent) and to join in the celebrations! I haven't had such a good night out for ages....even took to the dance floor! The following morning we went for a walk around the delightful village of Halse, looked at the pretty church and listened to birdsong (and not much else) in the spring sunshine! The pub is also a community hub with a cafe - so even if not wanting to stay, do drop by for a coffee or lunch! We will certainly be back!

Nothing - this was a fabulous place to stay and we had been told about the party - which did stop at midnight.

We spent one night here after a day out on the West Somerset Railway visiting the Minehead Christmas market. Lucy and Serena are excellent hosts and meet you with a cheery and welcoming smile and chat. We stayed in room 5 which apparently had been occupied at one time by Ian Botham. We enjoyed the food at our evening meal and afterwards a few drinks in the bar along with the friendly locals. The whole place was busy and had a great atmosphere. We had an excellent night's sleep in the very comfortable bed and the shower was fab! Breakfast was continental and again the staff were friendly.

Fantastic welcome with Lucy, met family staying close by for an evening meal in the pub which was very friendly, great with adults and children - food was fantastic

A minor annoyance was very loud plumbing vibration ?noise coming from the bathroom when pub in use downstairs (believe may have been linked to pub toilet usage. Once pub closed, noise stopped so able to sleep fine - otherwise bed, room all very clean and comfortable

Lovely warm welcome, and staff that really couldn't do enough for us. The onsite restaurant serves a range of dishes, catering for vegans and vegetarians also. It's a community-owned pub/cafe/restaurant so the atmosphere is very friendly and it was always busy - There's a positive buzz that's omnipresent. Breakfast was toast, pastries, and cereals, simply help yourself - We didn't miss a cooked breakfast, at all, there was sufficient to see us into the day. The room was fabulous - Huge bed (large double) that was really comfy, en suite shower was immaculate, and the view from the window onto a country lane from which we regularly saw horses go by. Deadly silent by night, which was great, even with the window open. Will definitely be back!

The comfort of the ensuite rooms were helpful while being away from home. This includes bed size, pilows, storage and bathroom. Many small touches have been thought of. Peaceful to sleep at night. The bar and restaurant doesnt affect the noise levels in your room. The food is excellent compliments to the new menu & the chef.

Nothing. Just ask them for anything you need.

Continental breakfast provided was perfectly adequate with fresh pastries and friendly staff who told us more about the New Inn as a community pub. Nicely decorated bar area and lots of seating outside for warm summer evenings. It was a perfect base for us to travel to the nearby heritage railway

it was quite remote and satnav took us along some narrow lanes to get there, but fortunately we didn't meet much traffic. Everything else was fine, though sadly we hit one of the Sundays that the pub was closed due to staff holidays (I think)

The community is very proud of their community owned pub, and rightfully so! Breakfast is set out by lovely volunteers, and manager Lucy gave us a wonderful welcome. Lots of nice walks in the area (with a helpful guide to a few walks provided) and it is a good base for adventures into Exmoor.

We loved this place. The staff were so lovely and they really enjoyed working there. The rooms were light and airy, and refreshingly, there were plenty of teabags and milk. Not the usual 2 that you get in most places! And Borders biscuits! The bar and restaurant was excellent. There's actually an area where you can just have a drink. Some pubs now only seem to cater for diners and have a couple of bar stools. The food and service was top notch. The was a lovely atmosphere in the place, being a community pub, it is well used by the village and surrounding areas. If you arrive too early to check in, there is a cafe at the back next to the car park. I think they have thought of everything. We will definitely return!
