As we had the highest rooms in the highest hotel in the centre of Lisbon, the views were amazing. Location is fantastic - the hotel is right next to the Castelo at the heart of Alfama's winding streets, with plentiful restaurants and access to public transport within a short walk. Room was very comfortable, breakfast was excellent and the staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The hotel itself is not large, but is a beautiful relaxing place to spend time. Outstanding!

Didn't especially like the noise from the adjacent Castle's large Peacock population, but there are worse things to have to worry about

Almost everything! The hotel is gorgeous, the location wonderful, peacocks strutting around the courtyard are lovely, the archeological museum interesting, the snacks delicious and generous and the room comfortable.

The shuttle situation. On Booking.com, this hotel is the only one listed with a hotel shuttle. Both times I’ve booked this hotel recently, I chose it for the hotel shuttle. Apparently, though, for the price offered, you only get a one way shuttle ride. I’d rather pay a bit more and get a round trip ride. It seems like false advertising when, upon booking the only Alfama hotel with a hotel shuttle there was in fact only a one way ride available. When I make that my search criteria, I’m doing it because I need the convenience (in this case because I was traveling with my 79 year old mother), and although the one way when we actually got a shuttle ride was wonderfully convenient, the trip to/from the hotel when we did not have a ride was quite a hassle.

amazing location, especially for those who don’t mind walking. for those who don’t, there is public transport taking you very close. very helpful and kind staff. the neighborhood is lovely, it gets quite crowded during the day, at night it is truly lovely and quiet and romantic. We received a bottle of sparkling wine the last night, maybe because it was my birthday or maybe as a goodbye gift. Another much appreciated offer was free transfer from the Airport to the hotel. Highly recommended!

Solar do Castelo was the PERFECT Hotel for a Romantic Vacation in Lisbon. The Location was Old World Portugal, the Hotel was Charming, Quaint & Romantic. The Room & Bathroom was Very Clean & Comfortable. Delicious Breakfast Buffet with a Generous Variety of Choices & the Staff were Amazing! A Big Thank You to Samira, Francisco & Henry for their Professionalism, Helpfulness & Kindness. They made us feel so Welcomed! We Loved the Peacocks and the Beautiful Atmosphere and Saint George's Medieval Castle was next door. We Highly Recommend this Lovely Lisbon Hotel!

We Loved Everything! However, there is a lot of uphill walking. Please bring comfortable sneakers!

We enjoyed the extensive and very tasty breakfast options - available from 7.30 to noon each day. We also loved relaxing in the interior courtyard late at night, listening to the peacocks from the nearby castle (the rooms are well soundproofed, so they don't keep you awake). The peacocks sometimes visit during the day, and there are excellent gelateria, pastel de nata bakeries and small restaurants nearby and it's a few minutes to the nearest mirador and tram. The hilltop location won't suit everyone, but we were happy to walk up (or take the local bus, until 9pm) in exchange for the tranquil atmosphere.

We couldn't identify any scope for improvement.

Very nice, special and quiet location. A very cosy place with excellent breakfast (from 7h30 to 12h!!!) as well as coffee, tea, pastries available in the afternoon and nice local sparkling wine & nuts in the late afternoon, all included in the price. This is part of what makes the place special together with the special location and the cosy rooms.

The price is still a bit high compared to many 5 stars in Lisbon with many more facilities and much bigger rooms. We first had a small room which was pretty disappointing. I would definitely recommend booking an Alfama Room which are very nice.

The included breakfast was delicious and filling and featured an abundance of seasonal local and traditional food selections, fresh and healthy stuff, with something probably for everyone including vegetarians (we don't have any dietary restrictions ourselves). It saved us a lot of time and probably money (food in Portugal generally was high quality and very affordable). The peaceful breakfast room is by the courtyard with its peacocks and water feature and dining there was a great way to ease into and plan the day—and then no need for a lunch break. Especially liked the quince marmalade. We were in a magical castle on a hill, and our room overlooked the mouth of the Tagus and the castle walls. Our room was cozy, the bathroom was terrific (great soap), and there's a little museum with ancient artifacts in the basement. Elsa, the manager, was especially helpful, even calling for a reservation for us for Christmas Eve dinner, and all the staff were gracious, friendly, and encouraging as we tried to say things in Portuguese. Would love to return.

Nothing not to like except maybe the rain, but that wasn't the hotel's fault—there was an umbrella in the room for us!

Breakfast selection was very good, staff were very helpful and courteous, the eating area was very clean with indoor or outdoor eating available. There was no pressure to leave you could eat very leisurely. I very quite corner of Lisbon just fantastic!! We would highly recommend Solar do Castelo. The location next to St George Castle and with many local available eaters and bars, and many great small shops of all kinds was a great bonus. Nery nice to stay on the hill for the night not rushing back to town!

Just get used to the hills and cobblestones it's Portugal - Enjoy!

It was great experience in a boutique hotel such as Solar do Castelo. The place very beautiful and could be romantic for couples. The staff very friendly and cooperative and helpful. The location is amazing on the top of the 1st hell and next to the castle and the bus stop. The city center and other heritage locations are few minutes walking.

For people with health difficulties it might be difficult to go up to the hotel, but the hotel has golf car to deliver people to the bus stop.

Stunning small boutique hotel nestled up against the castle wall in old Lisbon, complete with parading peacocks, outdoor patio, and honor bar. Could not have been better: loved it!

Nothing, really: elevator only went to the second floor, but it is an old building and any elevator beats no elevator.
