All the staffs are friendly and very helpful. They have Northern Light wake up call, and we got a door knock at 11pm and voila, a beautiful Northern Light! The hotel is also located in secluded area with minimum outdoor lighting, so perfect for Northern Light sighting and photography! We only need to step out to the side of parking area and have virtually almost 360 degree view of the sky. Dinner was great, ordered the Skyr dessert as recommended by the waiter and it blew our mind! (Sweet sour soft crunchy taste texture combination). Breakfast was excellent and always topped up quicky, even when there are big groups. Staffs are meticulous with cleanliness! Really could not expected more from the staffs 👍👍👍

We only stayed 1 night here 🥲

We really enjoyed our stay. While the room was small, we didn’t need anything more. It was spotlessly clean and had a nice bathroom with excellent hot water for showers. The views from our room and common areas were vast and stunning. Breakfast was really good each day. Staff were very kind and helpful. The northern lights wake up call is such a great perk! They knocked on our door to alert us to the lights, allowing us to relax but also see the aurora for the first time ever- very exciting and a beautiful experience! The location was convenient for visiting so many sights in the area. We would definitely stay again.

Very clean and luxurious hotel with super friendly staff. We got a really nice room with a view over lake Mývatn as it was our second attempt at booking a stay to celebrate this milestone. The former attempt, in London, ended with a disaster as the hotel that we paid a premium prise for was supposed to be a luxurious hotel turned out to be an absolute dump and the owners scammers. Hotel Laxa was a in a whole other league, everything top notch. The breakfast was amazing with a great selection of bread, toppings and cereals and of course delicious bacon, eggs and beans. First class!

incredible views of the lake from which we saw the Northern lights. Great shower and facilities. Breakfast was great (make your own waffles and wide selection including hot and cold buffet breakfast) and definitely recommend eating in the restaurant as well - this was some of the best food we had in Iceland and whilst it looks pricey, it's worth it. We enjoyed it more than our Michelin guide restaurant we went to in Reykjavik. Great views across the whole landscape from the hotel in all directions

nothing, everything was great

The staff at Hotel Laxa were all fabulous and keen to ensure our stay was the best possible experience for us. We found the bed a bit firm so asked if they had mattress toppers...which they do, and installed them that afternoon. We slept much better from then! We stayed there three nights and had dinner in their restaurant every night. The food was delicious and creative. Although it wasn't 'spacious' our room had place for both suitcases to be lifted off the floor and opened without getting in the way of moving around the room. Although it didn't have a fridge, the staff were happy to store our milk in the fridge behind the bar so we could access it whenever we wanted tea or coffee using our room facilities. The views from the hotel are fabulous, and it's located away from everything else so it's quiet and isolated.

We have found pretty much all accommodation in Iceland to be massively overheated. We turned the two thermostats down to zero in our room at Hotel Laxa but there was a radiator under the window that couldn't be turned off. When the staff came to put the mattress toppers on our bed we asked if we could turn the heating down or off, but unfortunately we couldn't. Instead, we ended up sleeping with the heating blazing and the windows cracked open (as it was sub-zero outside). Kind of crazy really. It worked OK, but would have been better to have more control over the heating in the room. Not sure what we'd have done if the wind was strong and the windows couldn't be opened.

The dinner at the restaurant was delicious and the service was outstanding. The chef made me a fantastic meal despite my rather option limiting food allergies (thank you). :) We also loved the northern lights wake-up service - a fabulous idea. On our departure, the helpful reception clerk told us about the toll road and how to pay to avoid being charged extra by the car hire company (thanks again). The room view was beautiful and we had a lovely evening of watching the snow fall. And, finally, the pot of tea that they serve is excellent (not the coloured flavourless water served elsewhere!)

The only suggestion we have is to change the soap dispensers. The are appallingly ugly and give off public toilet vibes which don’t match how nice the room is!

The location of the hotel south of Lake Myvatn but very close to the ring road and to all the attractions south of the lake is very attractive. The en suit room is of good size and very clean. The beds are comfortable. The breakfast buffet was very good. The area is flooded with mosquitos, but it is remarkable how the hotel inside is protected. The room window has nets, but somehow the mosquitos do not enter the reception or the restaurant, which to my recollection are not protected with nets.

Though the en suit room was very large, its plan was not reasonable. The shower room was so large that you could put into it a queen size bed, if not a king size one, and still enjoy your shower. Hence, the room itself was very narrow, and there was no place to open suitcases except in the corridor on the floor. Very inconvenient.

Good hotel with nice restaurant and very good breakfast. Very friendly personnel. Quiet room with beautiful view over the snowy landscape. Ample parking. They offered deca coffee in the room and with breakfast..it was nescafe..ok better than none. TV in room with a few different channels also 4 UK channels.

Although the room was clean and comfy it was dated and cheap materials were used. The room reminded us of a student room. The bathroom was very funny. Made us laugh when we saw it. See photo. And an espresso machine would be better than the nescafe....

A big thumbs up for the very helpful staff of Hotel Laxa. When we were about to check out, we clumsily drove our car into a pile of snow accumulated in the hotel car park overnight and got stuck there. A few hotel guests around lent us a hand but still could not pull our car out. Fionn at the Front Desk came to assistance immediately upon our request. It was certainly some strenuous work he did to free our car from the thick snow. And he's our hero. Thanks also to another lady at the Front Desk who was very helpful. It's a pity that we did not know her name. All in all, it was a great stay at Hotel Laxá. It's clean, cosy and at a good location in the Myvatn area.

Nothing.

Hotel Laxa is perfectly located about an hour drive from Akureyri just as you arrive at Lake Myvatn. Within an hour drive are loads of the places that you might be in the area to see including: Husavik, Godafoss, Myvatn Baths, Krafla & Viti (note that the visitor center at the geothermal power station is closed in the winter), Namafjall Hverir, Hverfjall, Skútustaðagígar, and Akureyri itself. (note Detifoss is typically closed during much of the winter). It is perfectly easy driving around and visiting all of these places without booking any tours. Great position raised slightly up from the main road so there are great views and also if the Northern Lights are dancing then it is in a perfect place to view from Friendly hotel staff - all very helpful and informative. Really comfy room, with an excellent shower and a great view. Excellent Breakfast Buffet with plenty of options to suit everyone. Evening meal options whilst super tasty are perhaps limited (and comparatively pricey), but that is because most people are only there for a couple of nights and there are plenty of other great dining options around and about. All in all a great base for 4 nights. Definitely suggest traveling late Feb/March for the winter break. It is still cold and snowy but there is ample daylight (over 10 hrs) in which to comfortably drive around seeing things.
