+ Great Location + Nice atmosphere in the hotel + Lovely bar and public areas + Very nice breakfast

- Room 117 had a bathroom for disabled guests but was not very user friendly. - No shower curtain so all the bathroom was soaked - No toilet roll holder so the toiler rolls were also wet from the shower - No toilet seat cover and only a small basin for washing hands . - Nowhere to put toiletries in the bathroom. - As the floor was tiled, the water from the shower stayed on the floor all day ad would have been dangerous for anyone with reduced mobility. - The hinges on the wardrobe door were broken. NB if you take the dinner package you have a reduced menu to the value of £30

The hotel was beautiful and very comfortable. The staff were really nice and helpful.

The only down side for us was it was a little way out of the centre of York for going out in the evening. However they had a really good system in place for ordering a taxi, which wasn’t expensive.

Loved the interiors of the main building and that they have tried to keep the essence of the building. The rooms are very nice and the breakfast was delicious.

Some areas are abit tired, for instance some of the seating in the bar area. And the terrace could be made to look more inviting. Also, the buffet section of the breakfast needs to be replenished more often.

Room was really nice and spacious, very clean and comfortable place to relax. The Hotel it self is very nice, it's pretty spectacular when you first enter, and it has a really nice ambience, We didn't take the breakfast, as we felt it was a too expensive, there are plenty of independent cafes on the way to the City Centre.

The room wasn't serviced by the time we returned quite late into afternoon, so we had to go ask for new towels and condiments. It took my wife some time to talk to the receptionist, since they were busy checking-in guests, and it seemed that their intended rooms were also not ready! The receptionist apologised and explained that they were experiencing staffing issues on that day. It wasn't a big deal, but when paying over £100/night for not much more than a room with a bed, you would expect the room to be serviced in a timely manner.

stylish place with art nouveau design everywhere including rooms. Extremely comfy bed and great duvet. Fridge with 2 complimentary bottles of water. Hot full hearty English breakfast and good choice of continental breakfast as well. I also had dinner included in my stay and I was very satisfied with the quality and taste of the food. Although I didn’t expect much from the hotel restaurant. For 2 night stay for 245 pounds (half board) it was a bargain!

Waited for check in 20 min after 3 pm because the room was not ready:(( no slippers in the room. Sewer smell in the bathroom.

This was our 4th time staying at this Hotel and we're never disappointed the staff are all very friendly and will do all they can to help and make your stay more enjoyable, We got a free upgrade as we asked for a room with a bath so we could have a soak after our long walks round the city instead of just the usual shower. The Breakfast has a good selection and the meals in the restaurant are a very good standard and reasonably priced also the bar is open until 1am if you want that late drink.

I expect the property is listed and still has single glazed windows which doesn't keep the heat in so in winter maybe have blankets available to guests but apart from that no complaints...

Beautiful hotel with art deco details and lots of charm. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and the bed super comfortable. Check in and out was quick and efficient with parking close by (in addition to that belonging to the hotel), and it was just a short stroll to Micklegate Bar and the center of York.

Some decor looked in need of attention (mirror in bathroom was not secure on one side) and the lights were fixed onto rough blocks of unfinished wood, which looked untidy and out of place in such an otherwise lovely hotel. Some dust and dirty marks on the desk and bathroom floor.

Stunning historic building, absolutely lovely staff and nice area a little outside of the city centre. Room was spacious and decor was beautiful. Shower was amazing and really hot! We didn’t have time to use the bar but would have loved to - it looked stunning. Breakfast room was equally grand and we could have spent all morning in there.

We think there could be a better system for collecting your luggage from the storage room - there is no ticket/numbering system and mistakes could easily happen / someone could take the wrong bag and you’re relying on people’s honesty. We were surprised there was no system for this.

Room was lovely. The pullout bed could have been more comfortable. The bathroom was amazing - very clean and nicely appointed. We enjoyed the breakfast room, great breakfast offerings and helpful staff. The sitting room next to the reception area - amazing building. Reception staff very helpful and friendly.

We felt sorry for the staff when the coffee machine wasn't working and they only had two people on to look after a large room of people. We noticed when elderly guests arrived with large luggage and there was no one to help them carry cases. Our nephew offered to help - in the end, they had to wait for someone to come. We found walking back from the old city in the dark around 10:30pm a little scary - we like to walk a lot and that felt risky along some parts of the way back. Parking was limited and the lot suggested needed better signage for people from out of the country.

The hotel was beautiful. I am a fan of Arts and Crafts and had wanted to see the interior which exceeded expectations. It was warm and comfortable. The food was very good, 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners + afternoon tea. An easy walk or bus ride into York

A wider menu would have been good, especially with staying 3 days. It was the same menu and so very limited in choice. The afternoon tea, though nice, was rather expensive.
