Great location and quiet area. The lobby, lounge and bar are quite charming- 50 rooms across several houses linked to create one property. Super helpful staff when I told them I’d fractured my ankle and needed help with luggage- they gave me a room on the ground floor and helped settle me in.

The room I had was one of the tiniest I’d been - even the chair was too big and couldn’t even move out from under the desk. The bath room fittings were quite worn out- the ceramic shower holder was cracked from age and because the parts need to be ordered, will take a while to be replaced. The room is dark/ not enough lighting at night. I’d come back but would avoid room 52.

The hotel is located very close to the main campus of UCL and several metro stations. Rooms (at least the one we booked - king bed) are rather small but comfortable. Continental Breakfast is included in the price and though there is not much variety we enjoyed it every morning. They also offer full English breakfast for £15 per person extra. We stayed in a room on the ground floor overlooking the garden and I really enjoyed it as it is very quiet there. They also serve lunch which we had one day and afternoon tea which we did not have a chance to try. Every evening you get biscuits and the tea/coffee is provided in your room. The mini bar has some soft drink as well as still and sparkling water - also included in the price.

Very good location. Friendly and polite staff. Nice breakfast. Good place to have a rest and drink some. Nice smoking area outside. The room was big enough. The room was warm enough. They got AC if you need to. The hotel is made in old British stile in old British street. Very nice place.

I didn't like that the windows were boarded up, it was hotel policy for security reasons. Our room was on the third floor, it's hardly very high. If you want to ventilate it's impossible. Separately, it was very warm in the room, to normalize the temperature we had to use the air conditioner on cooling throughout our stay. The air conditioner was very noisy.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at The Academy, part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection, and it was an unforgettable experience. The location of The Academy is perfect for anyone wanting to explore London. Situated in the heart of Bloomsbury, it’s just a short walk from iconic landmarks such as the British Museum, Covent Garden, and the West End theatres. The area is quiet yet central, offering a perfect balance of peace and accessibility to London’s major attractions.

Soundproofing is an issue. The hotel is located on a busy street, and I found the noise from traffic and street life to be quite loud, especially at night. Additionally, the hotel itself is quite noisy internally, and sounds from neighboring rooms or hallways can be heard easily. For light sleepers, this might be a concern. It’s also important to note that The Academy does not have an elevator. If you have heavy luggage or mobility concerns, this could be an issue as the hotel is spread across several floors. I didn’t mind it personally, but it's something to keep in mind when booking.

Our room wasn't ready when we arrived. After about 10 minutes, they did offer us a glass of wine which was nice. Though the wait ended up being about 30-40 minutes. Because of this hiccup we were extended a late check out until 12noon. On our check out day, we confirmed that our key cards would work until then. They assured us they would. Like clock work our room keep expired at the original check out time. This wouldn't be terrible if our room was on the sixth floor walk up no elevator. Upon return from breakfast we had to go back down to the lobby to have them re upped.

Bloomsbury location is fabulous. Well connected for several Underground stations. Breakfast is lovely with many healthy offerings and great coffee. The public areas for sitting are very attractive. Most staff are excellent, esp Felix who was very helpful and pleasant and helped me to place a call to Austrian Airlines.

Upon check-in, as soon as we arrived the staff person, a young woman with long curly brown hair was very anxious that the booking be paid in full. She was not very pleasant. I thought I had paid in full and needed to access my computer to check my credit card, assuring her that I would pay before end of day if I had not already. In fact I had only given my CC to secure the reservation and as soon as I realized this I paid in full. Her behaviour towards us could have been more accommodating and pleasant. I did not like walking up 4 flights of stairs to access my suite.

Location is great, breakfast selection is continental only (with the choice of additional purchase for hot meal), but the offerings are good. Service is excellent. Bathroom is classic but clean and quite spacious. We stayed for our honeymoon and greeted with a bottle of wine, chocolates and swan towels, along with a message from the team, which was very sweet. Minibar is complimentary and refreshed daily. Turndown service available.

Room is a bit smaller than expected, bed was not very comfortable and a bit short (especially if you’re taller than 6’ - hot water tend to be lukewarm in the morning. If you’re unlucky you’ll be faced with a lot of stairs.

The staff are wonderful - everyone makes you feel very well taken care of. The beds and linens are super comfortable, and the room was very clean. There are lots of little treats like complimentary mini bar etc. Everything is very well appointed. Overall, a charming boutique hotel in a less busy but still central location and very reasonably priced considering other similar options

There’s no elevator. We asked the reservation line several times to confirm the room we booked would be available on the ground floor - they gave us wrong info but the reception team bent over backwards to ensure we were on the ground floor. I advise booking directly with reception. Also, the hotel is located in an old building - most of London is! I think it’s part of the charm, but expect small rooms and bathrooms and grounds that are aged. Our room also had a leak from upstairs but the staff were very quick and attentive to the leak/us.

Nice feel, small and well presented boutique hotel.

only real issue was the bed. Given what you are paying for us mainly a good nights sleep it was very disappointing. Room 38, the mattress is obviously old as one side has dropped and seems like your in a pit where your bum goes meaning it’s really bad for your back no matter what your position. Unfortunately, I wasn’t asked at checkout about my stay or I would have discussed the matter. it’s not something that could have been solved without moving g rooms and after a long day not convenient at 11,30pm. A real shame tbh from what was bar a good stay.
