A friendly, young lad checked us in. He made recommendations of tourist areas to see around this location. We had a cozy cabin with a table and 2 chairs, which is always nice. Easy parking near cabin. Our cabin had a great heat with a beautiful view. Our cabin was bunk beds. Bathroom was small but very clean. Be cautious how much hot water you use as it's a very small hot water tank that is mounted over the shower. We had a delicious meal in their restaurant the night we arrived, and we really enjoyed it. They have a lovely cold cut breakfast buffet with delicious baked breads.
Steps up to our cabin were rickety and need some maintenance. :)

I rarely write five-star reviews, as it is not often I find places that warrant such a high accolade. Hunkubakkar is definitely one of those places that gets 5 from me. We stayed overnight enroute to Keflavik. I had requested a late check-in time (around 930PM), and we pulled in around 10, and were welcomed regardless of being a tad late. They were very accomodating and communicative with questions and such. Examplary customer service as far as I'm concerned. The guesthouse we stayed in was quaint, clean, and well put together. We had to leave early (around 7AM, so missed Breakfast), but the property was very well maintained and looked gorgeous. We have been regretting not being able to stay for a few extra hours. If you can, stay for their dinner at the restaurant - while we personally arrived too late to eat, it was our faullt we missed our chance for what we heard later from folks was some amazing food. So avail yourself to the dinner if at all possible. Finally, something worth noting. I had left my expensive earbuds accidentally in one of the rooms. They emailed me to let me know (again, 5 stars on the service just for that). Not only that, but they shipped them back to our place in North America and are enroute as I'm writing this. I'm not sure what to say except that we will definitely be returning if in Iceland again, and we shall bring along some of our made in Quebec maple syrup for the owners as a thank you.
Nothing that I can think of. Before we went I was telling my co-traveler that it took me a while to find a place on the Southern end of the Island because there was a lot of choices, and that we needed something in a very central location. I somewhat hesitantly settled on Hunkubakkar as somewhere to quickly crash for the night. In hindsight, this was a bad idea on our end as we missed out on a ton of what they had to offer! They are on my list of places to travel to again and spend a bit longer at next time!

Location is good, make sure you visit Fjaðrárgljúfur while in the area, it is right there & very beautiful. Room was warm, quiet, clean, comfortable mattress. I had a shared bathroom but it was clean & there were no issues as other guests were clean & respectful. Fun part was that you get like your own tiny house, it's a fun interesting experience, especially if aurora is around. It is very quiet both in the room I really enjoyed dinner course menu, I think it was worth the money & the quality was definitely very good. They were also accepting & accommodating of my dietary restrictions, thank you! And the dinner was especially nice with a great choice of calm jazzy evening music - very relaxing after a long day. It was one of the most memorable dinner experiences while in Iceland, I really enjoyed it. Breakfast was OK, with usual options in Icelandic hotels/guesthouses. Check in/out was quick, seamless. Staff very nice all the time. Parking free on premises.

Location: On a side road off Route 1, opposite a farm. Fantastic views from the property. Room: There are individual wooden cottages on the property with a small verandah and attached bathroom. It is like a mountain cabin but with modern amenities like electricty, hot water, bathroom, etc. - rather quaint but we liked it. There was a small dining/ writing table and three chairs and a couple of space heaters in the room. Bed was very comfortable. I can imagine that it would be a perfect spot to watch and photograph the Northern lights (there is very little light pollution). Though we had a clear night sky when we stayed, unfortunately, the Northern lights were not on display. Free parking was available close to our cottage. Staff was very courteous.
Breakfast: Was rather basic. Bathroom was very small with the wash basin being very close to the WC. The only mirror in the cabin is a small one in the bathroom. Was it worth the money we paid? We think not.

We stayed in one of the huts for 1 night - there were two rooms in our hut with one shared bathroom. The hut was warm and clean. Breakfast had good variety of food. We had dinner in the restaurant as well and both the lamb and the fish were delicious! The location is great - quiet & peaceful area a few minutes away from the amazing Fjadrargljufur canyon.
Shower drain was clogged. Also bathroom doors could get fixed so you don’t have to bang on the door everytime you wanna close it but that’s just a detail

The restaurant was delicious and fresh. The breakfast was ample in variety and was welcome to kick off our day. We had 2 rooms with a shared bathroom with another couple we traveled with. Relatively simple rooms, but the whole cabin and central area ambiance was really nice. We used the common room to play games one night. Each morning, we had a wonderful sunrise with sheep softly baaing
Our shower didn't drain very well so each person had to wait a little bit after someone else.

We had a pleasant stay in a cottage. We also had dinner here and tried the amazing lamb, worth the price!!! The cottage was clean and it had a sink and small table with 2 chairs + a big and comfortable bed. Ornela helped us with everything during our stay, she also helped us to watch the desirable northern lights!!
Since we shared the bathroom with other 2 people, it was a bit noisy at night. I missed maybe a shared kitchen or microwave and a fridge.

Loved the location: only 5 minutes away from Fjarðarárgljúfur canyon, close to the sheep farm and in a beautiful area. Breakfast was good, not very extensive with choices but it was ok. Bed was very comfy, hard to leave in the cold morning. Shower has good pressure. Staff is very nice and helpful.
The shower has capacity for 15 min of hot water. With 4 people in the tiny house we had to calculate not to go all at the same time and not for long. We skipped washing our hair.

Breakfast was provided by the hotel and included fish, cheese, and fresh baked bread among other items. It's located between Vik and the Glacier Lagoon, making it an ideal place to stop. As a lovely surprise, Fjadrargljufur (Feather River Canyon) is a five-minute drive up the road and made for a stunning sunset walk/hike. We also had dinner there one night and the food was delicious! The staff were cheerful, welcoming and very helpful.
My only complaint is the shower. The doors were poorly constructed. They didn't close completely, so water got on the bathroom floor and when I tried to get out of the shower one door fell off of the track. PLEASE - don't let this deter you from this hotel.

This idyllic spot offered privacy and comfort in absolutely stunning surroundings. Our cabin was spotless and outfitted with everything we needed and more (electric kettle, hairdryer for example). Our hosts were knowledgeable and proud of the area, introducing us to the most wonderful surprise on our trip, the incredible canyon just minutes up the road. A short, clear-path hike offered the most incredible views of the canyon and its waterfalls. A farm-to-table restaurant on site with full bar service gives Hunkubakkar a resort-like feel.
