Sal De Mar is a beautiful retreat in San Augustinillo. We loved the room, views and pool area. It was very quiet and peaceful. The staff were lovely and accommodating even though we couldnt really speak Spanish, they were patient with us! The food was also really good (though note its not included in room rates). San Augustinillo itself is paradise, we loved the beach and town a lot more than neighbouring mazunte. Great for bodyboarding and learning to surf on small waves.
The wifi wasnt working for a few days which made it hard for us to do some work and organising our onward travels. To get to the hotel there is a fair climb up a hill and stairs. In the heat it can be quite tiring. Be sure to figure out the shortcut there, otherwise its a much longer and harder walk and theres some very unfriendly dogs in that area. The shortcut avoids them!

It says on here that breakfast is 220 pesos, but in reality it's a la carte and quite expensive.
There was an infestation of red ants in my room and also that there are no mini fridges in the room to be able to keep cold drinks at least. The view is incredible and the property very quiet with a lot of greenery and birds and butterflies, but that's also because it is very far up the hill. On Booking it says it is 50m from the beach and it's definitely not, quite the hike to get between the beach and the hotel up in the hills.

The best view ever, spectacular. I love hanging out on the deck on a starry night, listening to the waves crash below. Very friendly, competent staff. Nice pool. Some reviewers complain that it is a long walk to the main road - true, however the website and other reviewers are clear about that going in. It is maybe 12 minutes, depending on your pace, and there are some steep stairs. OR you can rent a moto. Another complaint is about a dog at the top of the stairs. I had no issues with that dog, I just say hi and by the second time he pretty much ignored me.
Well, OK, the roosters get started pretty early :)

Small hotel, personal attention. Great communication. All the staff very friendly and helpful. They were very kind and upgrade us to a larger room with no extra cost. Thanks Claudia and team for being great hosts
The hill up to the property is very demanding. The road up to requires excellent driving skills or a 4x4. The rooms are quiet dark and only small mirror above the sink which is positioned for tall people, i am 5.2 and i struggled a bit. A long mirror for the ladies would be very welcome

It requires a short uphill walk to reach the hotel, but it's not too bad/ If you ask the hotel staff, they'll show you a shortcut. Bring a flashlight for walking back to the hotel at night. The hotel was very small and felt very private and safe. When you wake up you'll get to see the most beautiful sunrise from your balcony accompanied by birdsong. The staff didn't speak English, but they were very kind, helpful, friendly, and made me feel at home.
The kitchen was open only during the scheduled hours. Wish there was a bar or something to buy drinks and water from whenever needed

Tiny Boutique Hotel perfectly fitted into the hill. Beautiful view over the ocean. If you are lucky, you can see whales in the far distance.
There is nothing we did not like, but you should be aware a view things. The Hotel is up a hill and requires a 10-minute hike or an adventurous car ride up the hill. The pool is very small - good for refreshing but not big enough for swimming. The stairs are very steep, and WiFi coverage is limited (we did not have WiFi in our room).

Spectacular view. The nearby beaches are gorgeous. Genuinely friendly staff, I was sorry to go. This is a small, boutique hotel. I had breakfast twice, dinner once, all good. The pool was nice - this is a dipping pool, maybe 9 x 15 feet if that. I often am up late, and the view of the stars in the middle of the night was truly memorable. Beautifully kept grounds with all colors of flowers. Beautiful gliding birds over the property. The calm sound of surf day and night. I liked the walk to and from town, but there is some exercise involved! I only spoke spanish with the staff, if you do not speak spanish you might brush up on some tourist spanish.
There is indeed a barking dog at the top of the stairs that lead down to the beach. I am a dog lover, so I befriended it :) It is not a big dog lol, like 30 pounds, and the owner is friendly.

The gorgeous views, the pool, and the room were all quite stunning.
There is no way to have a nice cold drink in the night or a coffee early in the morning. I don’t agree with not having a bar fridge or complimentary coffee available especially when the location is so inconvenient. The climb up makes it difficult to pop over somewhere for a refreshment. It is leaves you with a stranded feeling. Also, they should install at least some solar lights to mark the path up. it can be dangerous at night.

The hotel stands on a little hill just behind San Agustinillo. Many people describe getting there quite challenging, in our experience: any car can get to the hotel, and the walk involves some stairs if taking a small shortcut. It is nothing impossible and you need to consider this is a normal situation for the area. The hotel is very nice and the staff is very welcoming (not everyone speaks English). Amazing views and atmosphere, you can have good lunch breakfast or dinner by paying a small extra. It is important to also know that the area had a big hurricane some months ago that brought many damages to the hotel, and it was completely re built very well. This has made the road up a little more bumpy and left some small traces the staff is taking care of.
The walk to the hotel is a little dark at night, while during the day it can get quite hot. However, it is nothing impossible and it is safe. Many hotels are located in a similar position in town and it is the price to pay for the incredible view.

The staff and hotel manager are lovely and so so helpful. I am scared of dogs and there is one on the path that barks when you pass, but I asked the manager about it, they introduced me to the dog and after that I had no issues! The hotel is so lovely, it sits high on a hill so views are incredible and the place is calm and relaxing. They also have a yoga shala on the roof and mats you can borrow. It's really good value and worth it.
This is a small town in Mexico so there are some things that can't be controlled. We had a few small frogs in our room each night which we had to remove, but it wasn't really a problem and can't be controlled.
