We liked the large sized room and view of the hills. We liked the big wardrobe, quality dressing gowns and bathroom products (penhaligan). We liked the ability to park the car close to the building.

The hotel decor is dated (paintwork and carpets). Single glazed windows are drafty, especially in dining room. Floorboards creak in the corridors, so you hear everyone moving around. The walled garden was closed (overgrown). After 4pm, there seemed very few staff around (receptionist seems to cover everything). Evening dinner menu was a bit limited and tight timing window (6pm - 7.30pm). Our room wasn't cleaned on one of the 3 days despite placing the appropriate signage on our door handle.

Breakfast was excellent and varied and the service was excellent. The location in its own private estate and woods and gardens provide a wonderful opportunity to walk and explore and enjoy the wonderful weather we experienced during our stay. We were able to sit out in the late afternoon and evening and enjoy a drink.

We were staying for three nights. We felt that the dinner menu was somewhat restrictive. The menu was the same on each evening with limited choice. On one evening we selected the fish and chips option and were surprised to find that the haddock used was a 'lightly smoked' variety of haddock. We had never had smoked haddock deep fried in this manner.

The location, especially the setting, this is a beautiful hotel. The food was delicious cooked with quality ingredients. Our room, room 2, was immaculate, this is a large room, with a very spacious bathroom. The staff were very friendly.

lack of staff, I rang reception twice but no answer, there appeared to be only two staff working who at the time of my call were helping in the restaurant. The bed was two queens attached, one side was very comfy but the stuffing was lacking on the offer side. there was no hairdryer in the bedroom. I had to go and search for a member of staff to find one.

We've loved everything during our stay. The hotel's decoration and environment were fantastic, and the treatment from the staff, specially Richard, was amazing, professional and friendly! Everyone welcomed us very well, and made it extremely comfortable to be with our dog there, and made him feel very welcomed too! There are a couple of nice walks around the hotel. We were lucky to catch some clear skies at night and watched a starry sky and the light of a full moon, and a cracking sunrise, making the experience even more special.

Nothing to comment here.

Breakfast was relaxed and plentiful. The scenery is stunning, rural and beautiful. The building is old and quaint. Our room was huge and clean. The bed was big. There is coffee and tea-making facilities in the room. There were a couple of complimentary bottles of water. The sofa in the room was really comfortable to sit in. We needed some ice and it was promptly delivered to us. The staff are friendly.

The mattress needs replacing soon but we still slept well. We ate dinner on site one night and although the food tasted good, the portion sizes were small (and therefore we considered the meal pricey). There were a lot of steps/levels to get to the first floor room (although we managed well).

Everyone was very welcoming, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Bed was very comfy. Shame wardrobe doors were not there due to being damaged, so no mirror. however we were allowed to use the room across the hall as empty to use mirror as we had a wedding to go to. So all good. Beautiful grounds.

On a couple of occasions we had to find the waitress in the morning for breakfast. Could maybe check a bit more if more coffee or tea or anything needed. but only a little gripe. Always super helpful and chatty in a good way. Shame the Wifi didn't work in our room, but just due to signal can't be helped. Was fine when we were in the drawing room or downstairs. Was a relief not to be held to it, but a bit difficult to get messages to people picking us up. We just had to make sure we were ready earlier. A little bit out of the way, but in general it suited us this time as near wedding venue. Really need a car.

We loved the old-world charm of this beautiful property, peacefull and full and history. Our room was very spacious, as was the bathroom, offering great comfort. The highlight was the snug bar, where we had an intimate dinner in a warm and cozy atmosphere. The food was delicious!!

For a 4-star hotel, I was expecting a bit more from the breakfast. There wasn’t a buffet option, it seemed somewhat limited compared to the overall quality of the hotel.

The room was large, well furnished and comfortable. Dinner menu provided a good choice, with each course very well presented and the food was delicious. Breakfast provided a wide choice of cold and hot food which was very tasty and well presented. The staff taking orders for breakfast and dinner were very friendly and attentive. Jill, on Reception at our arrival, who also served us coffee in the afternoon and then Pre-Dinner drinks and then supervised and was hands on during Dinner, was superb. She is a first class employee and ambassador of the hotel and we hope the Macdonald Management recognises the value she brings.

The stairs from the ground to first floor have very short treads due to the curved layout of the staircase. This makes it necessary to take extra care when using.

We were very impressed! All the staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful. This is a delightful old Scottish Manor, kept in very good condition and clean. After many stairs and long hallways befitting an old manor, we found our room. A huge corner room with beautiful views of the gardens. We even had a nice big bathtub which was a real treat after a day and a half of air travel to get to Aberdeen. Dinner was excellent and the restaurant has an intimate romantic atmosphere with a lovely view of the expansive grounds. Breakfast was the full Scottish fare, again looking out onto the surrounding green meadows. It’s in a perfect location especially if arriving late afternoon in Aberdeen, only a 1/2 hour from the airport. We couldn’t have asked for better!

We didn't like having to leave! But hopefully we’ll be back!

High Quality f&b for dinner and breakfast, Staff delightful and attentive

Maintenance of the property is in real bad shape, I was in room 4 and mattress in the room so extremely bad and uncomfortable to sleep on, mattress has lived it life. General condition of public areas is also questionable and need a bit of repair especially in the lounge where celing paint is coming out. Cleanliness is also a factor they should put there focus on, my room was dusty.
