What a great place, I was super impressed! I travel globally All the time and have stayed in countless places, and this one is a Gem. All in all this is a really nice spot, great location, loved the balcony because I'm a smoker. The breakfast served on my balcony was very tasteful and a proper treat, and perfectly on time as pre arranged. The property manageress was so helpful, great suggestions of local restaurants and sites. I will most certainly always stay there if I pass through Clarens, won't think twice about it!!!

The host was super friendly and welcomed me personally with her husband and showed me around and explained everything in detail. The room was spacious and well furnished and had all I needed for my 2 night stay. Comfy bed, tea, coffee, rusks, bottled water and milk in the fridge, toiletries and a robe in the bathroom… Natalie really goes all out. The best part for me was the location, Upper House is located in a serene, tranquil part of the town with amazing mountain views and lush greenery all around.. and yet it is within walking distance to the town centre and all the shops. The room had a lovely balcony with incredible views of the garden and the mountain. I would definitely recommend a stay at Upper House and would stay again on my next visit to Clarens.

The lovely ladies serving breakfast in the room would just chat away amongst themselves and continue their own conversation while setting up.

Stacey was amazing. She communicated very well and gave us information with regards to things to do in Clarens on a daily basis. She also went the extra mile to help me with a surprise for my husband for the celebration of our wedding anniversary. The location was amazing and walking distance to the square. The inroom facilities and amenities were also great. Breakfast was served in our room and was delicious and the daily menu was well thought out. Upper House will be our choice of accommodation when visiting Clarens again.

We were very impressed with the new owner, Stacey Reid, who had just taken over the property on 1 Dec 2023. Unfortunately for us, my husband and I arrived violently ill in SA. Stacey, who had just moved there from Joburg, knew about everything and all services, from food delivery and laundry services to doctor and pharmacy as if she'd lived in Clarens all her life. She went to get us a thermometer and some meds from the pharmacy and provided us with the best holiday sick room in SA. Thank you, Stacey, you were the best. May your guest house move the mountains of my Golden Gate ;)

Breakfast was lovely - the bacon omelet was delicious! It was served in the room/patio - We had water refills every day, which was great and filter coffee with cold milk in fridge. The fresh flowers added a home away from home touch and the room was surprisingly cool considering how hot it was. We also appreciated that upon check in they informed us of the best times to shower based on their selected loadshedding schedule. And of course LOCATION! We love walking and we walked everywhere.

The ceiling fan's light did not switch off without switching off the entire fan - here and there bit of paint touchups required. For breakfast to maybe send a whatsapp to give next day menu so if two eggs is great for your husband it might be too much for you so an option to indicate quantities - in order to reduce wastage.

The pictures available prior to booking don’t give you real insight to the real charm of the Guesthouse. I liked that I had secure off-road parking, a huge bed, fridge, tv,WiFi. Stacey and her team of lovely ladies really go the extra-mile to ensure a very comfortable stay. The breakfasts were incredible and in my view, generous. I wanted comfort away from home. I got more than I expected - I really felt looked after. Thank you

Breakfast was excellent, it was lovely having something different every day. The location was great, close to town but far enough away not to be noisy. The room was great. Having the milk in the fridge restocked every day was appreciated. The room was well appointed, the bed was comfortable with warm bedding. The heater was a welcome addition.

Access to the garden would have been lovely but we had a patio overlooking the garden. Nothing to complain about, we had a lovely peaceful stay.

the breakfast was absolutely delicious, we were served the most filling, mouth-watering breakfast, cooked to perfection. The view from where we stayed was just breath taking, so fresh, what a majestic place. The hostess Stacey was just such a phenomenal host, she was checking in on us every hour, what a kind woman. I highly recommend this guesthouse to everybody looking to breathe some really fresh air and just have a relaxed time.

The hosts are amiable & welcoming. We appreciate that they reached out to us before our arrival and were there to meet us when we arrived. We also called them when we missed our turn to the place, and they helped us. The decor in the room was good, and the curtains were stunning. We enjoyed having access to the gowns. The view from our room was nice.

The room had teas/coffee; however, there were no spoons. The food portions for the breakfast were small & the breakfast was limited( no cereal or fruits) The main door was a bit tricky to lock. The caddy in the shower is quite high. We struggled to reach it.

The room was so warm and welcoming after a long drive from Joburg. Beautifully decorated with everything we needed. A beautiful fireplace really completed the cosy ambience of the room. The location was perfect, very close to the town square and shops. Stacey was an exceptional host who went out of her way to accommodate us with whatever we needed. The breakfast was absolutely delicious !
