A fantastic location in the hills above Gibraltar (approx 35 kms away) overlooking a beautiful lake and surrounding countryside. An old castle converted into a modern hotel with rooms in the castle and also the surrounding village. The room was excellent. Huge with a bedroom, a sitting room, a mezzanine sitting area, and a separate bathroom. The bed was a King Plus, a very comfortable mattress, a choice of pillows, and beautiful bed linen. The reception staff were very helpful. We arrived much earlier than our predicted time of arrival because of inclement weather. The staff were accepting of this and managed to get us into our room even before the hotel prescribed check-in time (2.00pm). When the weather cleared up, we had a great time exploring the castle environs and the surrounding old village. Charming. We also took a short walk around the village extremities, finding a local bar, which was great for a beer and snacks before dinner. We didn't have the time or the correct footwear, but we noticed several signed footpaths, which looked like interesting countryside walks. Dinner was in the hotel's restaurant 200 m. outside the hotel. A large multi-levelled restaurant. We sat in one of the smaller rooms with about 5 other parties, plenty of space, good atmosphere. Food was traditional, local Spanish country food. Lots of meat choices! Plain but good ingredients well cooked and tasty. Breakfast was a buffet in the hotel. Excellent variety of products from cornflakes to fresh fruit to pastries to cold cuts to cooked bacon and tortilla. All lovely!
The coffee shop in the hotel was lacking in atmosphere and had a limited choice of products. Some of the staff were a little terse and abrupt.

Delicious breakfast, nice variety, well worth the money. Authentically restored castle. Staff were very accommodating when we had to change our room. Overall delightful experience.
Even though there was an elevator, it only went from the lobby to the 1 floor rooms. We originally had an incredible deluxe tower room with access to the top, but because of my mobility issues I could not manage the multiple stairs . Even to get from parking to the lobby was a very steep walk. This is only a problem for some with mobility issues.

This is a totally unique hotel. A bona fide castle. And, a super bonus for us was that we were allocated a room - or rather, suite - in the turret, with a roof terrace. Amazing! The actual castle itself, and the location/views are absolutely stunning. It's not what I would call a "boutique hotel", in terms of decor, but the way it is decorated - quite traditional - is perfect, because it is a castle, and there's no getting away from that. The castle is located at the top of the mountain, surrounded by a pretty village, and if you want a get-away-from-it-all break, this is the place to head to. The restaurant for dinner is actually is one of the town houses about 100m away, and the food is absolutely excellent. I don't think there were any other places to eat, very close by, so this restaurant is an excellent choice. Breakfast is served in the castle - lots of choice, fresh and plenty of it. The views of the surrounding countryside are quite simply awesome.
Nothing to dislike - just more something to be aware of, if you consider booking here. The car park is located underneath the castle, and you then need to walk up a winding, cobbled road, which in places could be tricky if you have mobility issues. There are also a lot of stairs and steps in the castle, some without handrails. Again, just something to be aware of, but if you can manage hills and stairs, don't let this put you off, as this is a very special place to stay,

Unbelievable place: a 13th-century castle, located on the highest hill in the area with beautiful views - you can even see the Gibraltar rock. And a brilliant roof terrace. Spending the night in such a place is an interesting experience, but it is worth noting that the bed was also truly royal in size and very comfortable. We were in the castle room, but you can also rent one of the "casas rurales", located within the castle walls. If you like silence and nature, as well as the local vibe (is worth visiting the nearby village), it is an ideal place to spend 1-2 nights traveling through Andalusia.
Note the information provided by reception staff ! : it is not true, that the restaurant in the castle is the only option to eat dinner. 10 minutes walk down the asphalt road and you will find a local family restaurant. The atmosphere is familiar and spontaneous there - you can meet local residents and dance with them on the street - extraordinary experience :)

If you get a chance, definitely stay at this hotel. Highly recommended. Absolutely stunning to sleep in a castle. To look out over the mountains from your private terrace on top of a castle tower. And everything was perfect. Spacious, very comfortable room, good bed, very good breakfast with good coffee. And an excellent dinner in the nearby restaurant El Aljibe. Great place to be when visiting surrounding places such as Gibraltar or Ronda. Just a great place to be.
We had to leave.

The location and view is absolutely amazing. We got the tower room with a private terrace. Supply of towels and overall cleanliness. Selection of comfy pillows. We had halfboard: Breakfast was simple, but plenty and tasty. Dinner in the restaurant was more than excellent.
Details need attention: no working soap dispensers inside the breakfast room toilets, ventilation in our bathroom was broken, squeaky bed frame, tower terrace door cannot be closed from the outside, which causes heavy drag in the room while outside with the bottom window open. Exterior light on the terrace was defective. Room should have been vented for our arrivel.

We were kindly offered a choice of two different rooms, and the one we chose had eight windows and a pair of french doors opening out onto a small balcony. The view from there was positively breathtaking - never before have we been able to see eagles from above! The restaurant (in a separate building) was also excellent, both in terms of food and value. The breakfast was also extremely good.
The road up the mountain is a bit challenging, but well worth the effort.

The castle is gorgeous. The peaceful location makes you feel recharged. The chocolate croissant at breakfast was fantastic. The staff were very nice. Walking around the castle was idyllic.
The shower was not good. It leaked on the bathroom floor. It was a 'wand' which did not stay properly in the holder. We had two rooms. The second room had a bathtub which was much better.

The whole unspoiled historic venue surrounded by nature. Great view from balcony. Spacious luxury clean room. We only order drinks which were good priced.
That we could not visit the castle, the old towers and walls, they are currently under restoration. Just 1 vegan option and no plantbased milk for coffee. So a full menu so can't eat as a vegan. Vegetarians can take a soup and a salad. More plantbased options please.

The fact that it’s an old castle in the mountains of Spain. The views are really wonderful in all directions. It will make you think about the people that built this place. You can see all the way to Gibraltar from this hotel.
The hotel is up hill on a cobblestone path. You need to be prepared for that. After carrying all our luggage up those hills we decided to just take overnight bags in for rest of trip.
