Clean, comfortable, well decorated and very affordable

The owner was just a bit rude. I get that it must be frustrating with people not following their check in system, but he was very anti booking.com there was a different check in system to the norm and in all honesty I didn’t really see the emails that came through. after a really long drive and arriving in the dark I pushed open the door to the pub / reception and was met with the owner who was quite affronted and rather than just help me check in made me search for emails and find codes, which honestly he would know and know what room I had been assigned to. It was just a bit odd and a bit confrontational and as I say after a long 6 hour drive you just want someone to be welcoming, and if bookings are annoying through booking.com then sign up to a different platform.

Great place to stay. Very clean, king size bed very comfortable and in a quiet location which is just what we needed. Slept very well. Good supply of Tea/Coffee available in the room. Easy check-in. Very good communication. Not far from Bath, (5 miles) we took the Park & Ride option which worked out really well. Sadly the bar/restaurant was closed on Monday & Tuesday (these were the only 2 days we could travel) so we missed out on sampling their food. The outside seating area is very well decorated and welcoming, you can see a lot of thought has gone into the layout and great choice of plants and herbs growing. We highly recommend this place. Next time we come back to the area, we will definitely book here again.

We arrived at the Rose and Crown after a long and tedious drive. We were shown to our room which was spacious and clean. We had a very nice meal in the bar area and were well looked after by attentive staff. The bed was extremely comfortable and the water for the shower beautifully hot. It was a very relaxing stay. There was no hot breakfast provided but there was a very good choice of cereals, yogurt and fruit which we selected from a list of options the night before and which was all prepared and ready on a tray for us in the morning. This property was approximately half an hour further west from our ultimate destination. However when I was looking to book an overnight stay there was nothing nearer to where we wanted to be that sounded as nice. There was ample parking. They welcome dogs and although ours were not with us on this occasion there are ‘dog friendly’ rooms. The village is very attractive. Shaun and his team looked after us very well and were we looking to travel in this direction again would not hesitate to stay once more.

There were no negatives

The Rose and Crown was located in Hinton Charterhouse which is a small town just 15 minutes outside of bath. Surrounding are multiple walks and historical sites to see in the day. There is a bus going into bath that costs £4 including a return. From what I recall, the bus runs 2 times every hour and last bus back is at 11:15pm so you have lots of time if you wanted to spend the whole day in Bath. We were well catered for as I was given a lactose free breakfast. Hospitality from the hosts was fantastic and very welcoming, enjoyed a night downstairs in the restaurant with drinks and board games. Room was very clean and maintained. Had loads of storage ie wardrobe and 2 big drawers for a longer stay. Mattress was insane! Bathroom was big, and we were provided with showering condiments and practically brand new towels. There is a kettle in the room for coffee, tea and even porridge. Every room is provided with a book that’s states nearby places that offer hot breakfast food, walks and historical sights, attractions, wifi password, bus timings etc. This is very handy for a first time visit to Bath. Downstairs we ate in the restaurant, lots of options and very big portions. Pricing was very generous. Overall, we were very pleased with the stay and me and my partner had a great time away. We would 100% recommend the Rose and Crown to any couple who would like a quiet retreat in a small town or who would like to visit bath but don’t want to spend ridiculous prices to stay in town centre. We will definitely be coming back!

As the town is very small, there is only two places to eat ( including the rose and crown). Very quiet as everything closes at 10. There aren’t any shops or supermarket, just a small corner shop and post office.

The room was comfortable and had a bathroom with both a bath and a good shower. There were tea and coffee making facilities with biscuits too. The pub is about a 15 minute drive from bath, it had lots of free parking too. The room was really good value too. The pub itself was lovely and had great food.

Whether the breakfast was complimentary or extra was a bit confusing. I understand the difficulties of offering a cooked breakfast, as the pub is closed some days, but if possible a better breakfast offering and charging a bit more for it would get my vote.

Lovely, characterful pub. Friendly efficient staff. Sean is a great host. Rooms sparkling clean and comfortable. Good shower, lovely towels, plus tea, coffee, biscuits, water. The new breakfast room is an excellent decision, with all you could ask for provided for a serve-yourself start to the day. Another excellent stay here. Thank you, Sean.

Nothing. (We didn't eat in this time as we were baby-sitting locally, so can't comment on food)

The room was spacious, spotless and comfortable. The bed was really comfortable. We had a meal in the evening and the food, atmosphere and service was lovely. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

There was a problem with the heating but Sean did his best to resolve the problem. Also the windows appear to be original and obviously in keeping with the pretty building but perhaps some sort of secondary glazing would just help to keep the room a bit warmer and quieter from the outside noise. These are small things and overall our stay was lovely.

A beautiful village pub with very comfortable rooms, bed and good bathroom facilities. A short drive takes you into Bath and all that has to offer!

Unfortunately, our visit covered the days that the pub was closed, so we didn’t get to try the food or enjoy the bar, but it did look very nice 🙂 ~ be aware that Booking.com doesn’t let you know the bar is closed early on Sunday and closed Mondays and Tuesdays!

Very clean and tidy room. Self check in worked well, good instructions from the hotel via email before we arrived. The room was comfortable with good tea facilities (biscuits included). The surprise complimentary breakfast, from the fridge in reception area, was very much appreciated. Good value for money.

It felt a bit strange not seeing any hotel/pub staff while we were there, but we assumed that reflected in the reasonable price.

Had a fantastic stay here for 3 nights, unfortunately I didn't realise when I booked that the pub was closed for our first 2 days but on the Wednesday we were able to have a meal in the evening and it was fantastic, shaun was so helpful answering all my questions, location was perfect for us,especially with the bus stop right across the road which took us nicely into Bath
