The location is ideal, on Princes Street, perfect for exploring this beautiful city. Fantastic view from my window. The staff were charming and helpful and my room was immaculate. Very comfortable bed. Buffet breakfast was a great start to the day (excellent coffee). There are steps up to reception, but porterage was available and prompt As a. Solo female traveller I felt respected and safe. . I would certainly consider using the Waverley when I return to Edinburgh.
Some parts of the hotel are a little tired, but really this did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the stay.

The location was perfect. It was a short walk from the train station. Apparently my room had been upgraded because I had a lovely view of the Sir Walter Scott statue and Old Town. You can walk to the major tourist sites. The room was small but I was comfortable and a room with a view is special to me. The bus stop for the bus to the airport is just around the corner. I had to leave earlier than the time the included buffet breakfast opened. I was able to order a room service breakfast though which was very helpful. I would stay here again.
There are some steps to get into the lobby. They will carry your luggage for you if you ask. Once in the lobby there is an elevator. But the entry steps are a disadvantage for those of us who find carrying suitcases uncomfortable for our aging bodies.

The location is stunning, no doubt about it. The view from the room is absolutely breathtaking. The hotel also has a very lovely interior—so cozy and authentic. The staff is kind and always smiling. All in all, the hotel is really nice, but it’s definitely not worth more than €800, even if it’s located on the main street.
The room was freezing, especially in the bathroom—it felt like a dungeon in there. The shower either ran ice-cold water or boiling hot, nothing in between. Whoever designed the bathroom must’ve been a genius architect because the toilet couldn’t flush properly since the flush button was half-covered by tiles. 😅 The hotel has old single-pane windows, so apart from the awful cold, the noise from the street was also quite noticeable because nothing was sealed properly. But that’s to be expected when staying on the main street. The breakfast selection was very limited—I really missed having fresh veggies. On the bright side, the coffee from the thermos was surprisingly great—kind of old-school, but it tasted really good!

Location was brilliant central to everything transport, tourist attractions and plenty of bars and restaurants in the area. Bar staff Jason and Matilda are friendly and welcoming. Room was comfortable and spacious
Only thing for me was the type of room. I chose an internal room so there were no windows or view, which was my error but I wouldn't recommend.

The location is perfect. Conveniently close to touristic attractions, so that we entered hotel for short resting periods and get out for sightseeing again. Recommended especially for short stays cuz its location is a time saver. The bed is really comfortable and the bathroom was clean and new. Our stay/experience was in general satisfying. The only warning for guests would be the age of the building, doors, furnitures are quite old(but not broken just old) sometimes we were hearing the footsteps of the guests from the above room ( but as we were tired as hell it didnt affect our sleep quality )

Staff were very helpful and friendly on reception and in the bar. We didn't have breakfast or dinner but all staff seemed very good. Location is very handy for arriving by train and being central. We could get a view of the castle which we had paid for.
The furniture was exceptionally tired for this type of hotel and it really should have been to a better standard. There was no safe, no cupboard, no iron and board and a part missing on the shower. These are details that matter. Then beds were adequate but very short duvets. Some seating at the larger bay window would seem to make more sense to at least sell the view. Our stay was perfectly fine /adequate but I think it should be more than adequate.

Old school hotel but quality; comfy beds, big windows with views onto Princes Street, tea and kettle and desk, spacious rooms with lovely tall ceilings, staff friendly/flexible - were able to hold on to my luggage for most of the day when I checked out! Good bathroom and shower, spacious and good pressure for an older building. The decor is older, but I found it charming for that. The TV’s are old school small but that’s OK
Could do an intro about the wifi, and it looked like it was an open network (as opposed to a password WPA3 etc), but there was plenty of 4G signal.

I arrived at 8 pm to a warm welcome, lovely staff on the front desk making check in a breeze. All hotel services were well explained, as well as info on the city itself. My room on the 2nd floor was large, comfortable, and equipped with kettle & coffee/tea station, TV, shower bath, and toiletries. With a window overlooking a side street there was next to no street noise, and the hotel itself was very quiet also. The main staircase is separated from the rooms by fire doors which eliminated any noise from there as well. The buffet-style breakfast had everything you could want and was self-serve. Thoroughly enjoyed a hearty fry-up to start the day in Cranston’s. Evening food service is until 8pm and the menu is varied and offers plenty of options. I tried my first haggis here (crispy black haggis with mango chutney) and it was fantastic! All food and service was of an extremely high standard. A bonus, the building is 5mins from the train station and right in the middle of Princes Street, with hop-on-hop-off bus services having a stop just 10mins away. Convenient, comfortable, and quality. Thoroughly impressed and if I’m ever in Edinburgh again, I will be returning to Old Waverley.
Nothing!

The location is absolutely perfect, within the walking distance to all important places. This allowed us to take even unplanned evening strolls to the Royal Mile or to Calton Hill. The scottish breakfast was nice, but on the continental offer you did not have a very wide choice. Nevertheless, we were very happy with the scottish offer and enjoyed it every morning. The porridge was not my favorite, but haggies is amazing. The staff was very friendly. We were accommodated in a spacious room - bigger than expected - with a huge bed, which we really enjoyed. The room was clean, the bathroom big.
When we booked the accommodation, the description said our room was with a "no view, frosted glass window" room. The truth was that the window could not be opened, was dark even during the day and I suspect it was a fake window. That meant we were fully depending on the air conditioning and what was the weather outside like we found out only in the breakfast room or upon leaving the hotel. This was the only downside - the price for the room was very reasonable, but to me it felt like living in a cellar. Also the water flow in the toillette was very weak and in some situations we had to flush several times to achieve the desired outcome ;-)

The hotel is very centrally located on Princes Street handy for all the tourist hot spots. The restaurant was very good as was the bar- prices in the bar were very reasonable, considerably cheaper than the bars and restaurants around the hotel and around Edinburgh.
Our room had spectacular views. However it was in desperate need of any update. The window frame was rotten and rattled all night the carpet was past its best and the bedding was fairly cheap chain store bedding.
