Caitlyn on reception was welcoming friendly and really pleasant. Also Lucy who was a server in the restaurant was amazing. My son has autism and is very picky with his food she was patient and kind and the 2nd day she remembered what he had ordered the day before and he was really happy that she knew exactly what he wanted. Lovely staff overall.

There wasn't really anything I didn't like. Although in reviews it was stated as a lovely family hotel.. it was full of older people. I didn't see any other children or younger people on our visit at the hotel and there was nothing there for their entertainment. Altho our stay wasn't affected and we had a lovely time.

The staff and management are really nice and do genuinely look after all the residents the hotel is quirky and a bit dated but it feels very homely, in the evening the bar area is a bit like a social club, everyone seems to get on well and the atmosphere is very relaxed The breakfast is excellent! all freshly cooked and served promptly and the staff are excellent

there are a lot stairs and no lift service, so could be a bit awkward for the less abled the rooms are a bit dated but clean and adequate

This was a quirky, friendly hotel with lots of Laurel and Hardy memorabilia. The staff were all helpful and knowledgeable about York. We chose to stay in for our evening meal which was four courses, all good, and very reasonable. The lounges were comfortable and it was a nice touch to be asked if we wanted a complimentary hot drink on our arrival. You can tell that this hotel is privately owned and that the owners are proud of this and happy to be in the business! We would go back.

Our room looked a bit 'tired' but was very comfortable.

the welcome was nice and staff very friendly. The breakfast was very good but very surprised that black pudding wasn't on the menu, as we were staying in yorkshire ??? Our room no 26 was lovely. beds comfy except the sheets were always slipping. The shower room was compacted but did the job, the only thing which wasn't good was the brown grim under the rim of the plug.

The TV was so small and hard to read anything without getting up close, so annoying The evening meal was far too early at 6pm. it should be between 6.30pm til 8pm. I've worked in the hotel busy for many year's in this country and overseas. I was very surprised that there wasn't a light room service menu.

Recently stayed here with a friend and I honestly think this is good value for money! The staff were friendly as nothing was too out of their way to help when we needed it and the room was well kept when we arrived and during the course of our stay. The B&B had a lovely garden where you can sit out on the front with a nice drink in hand. The breakfast was lovely too! Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to stay either short or long term.

Your only issue you would encounter is the lack of a lift although this wasn’t a problem for us.

I contacted the hotel a week before we were due to go to ask for a ground floor room as my husband had hurt his foot and was unable to do stairs and they did accommodate us in a family suite across a small external courtyard to the rear. The inclusive breakfast is very good and sets you up for the day. It's within walking distance of the city centre and on a bus route which runs every 15 minutes into the centre.

Very limited parking outside. We drove around for about 90 minutes until we were able to find a space. Lack of a lift makes it harder for people with limited mobility.

Choice of breakfast menu was excellent. All staff were polite and friendly. It's an absolute gem of a hotel and more than worthy of it's 3 stars. It should be 5* and just because it doesn't have a pool/ spa, gym, fridges in room it never will have. But now I've experienced the place I can hand on heart say I wouldn't stay anywhere else. Evening meal is available but be sure to book early as it soon gets booked up. Reasonably priced bar for a tourist destination city. It has limited parking spaces but they do try and fit you in. It's just a 50yard walk to main rd to catch buses into city centre. What's not to like. You will not be disappointed by choosing this hotel.

God, I love Yorkshire. People are just so warm and friendly generally and nowhere was this more apparent than at this hotel. From the minute we arrived they bent over backwards to make us feel welcome, even rearranging the parking to accommodate our car (which after a long drive, we were extremely grateful for). They would wave goodbye when we left for the day, and greet us when we came back in. The hotel itself is just perfect too. It's a rare example of an old school English hotel, which has actually been maintained well, still looks great, but feels homely. Breakfast was perfect, both in terms of the food and the staff. If you are planning to visit York (which you really should, because it is a truly magnificent city), then I could not recommend anywhere that would fit better for that experience than the Wheatlands Lodge Hotel.

Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was beautifully clean, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The building had a pleasant smell, and the building itself was stunning. We had breakfast included, and the food was exceptional, so very well done to the chefs. They have a small bar at the front side of the hotel just as you walk in, we didn't use this, but it was very well put together and decorative. 10/10 would stay again.

However, the only downside was the parking. It was available in their private car park behind the building, which could accommodate around 6-8 cars, which was often full. However, we could park on the street in front of the building as well as the rear street, which was completely free. If there was no parking, we used the NCP long stay parking about a 10-minute walk away at the York Train Station. Overall, parking wasn't a huge problem, so I definitely would not bring my overall rating down.

We liked this Hotel very much, the 2 star rating is a bit unfair, but that is due to facilities. The location has limited parking to the rear of the Hotel and is very tight, on street parking can be limited, but overall that would not stop us booking this hotel again. The Staff are very helpful and friendly, that bit more than just professional, there is a family atmosphere within the Hotel. The Hotel is clean, a very good breakfast and a very cool bar, covered in Laurel and Hardy memorabilia. It is also fairly close to the City Centre and Train Station.

We have nothing negative to say and understand it is not the easiest place to park.
