The Birchwood is ideally located for easy access to Beach Drive, wonderful restaurants, bars, shopping, museums, the pier, walking, biking, and a gorgeous park full of others taking advantage of the perfect weather to enjoy a stroll, walking a dog, or having a picnic. The small hotel itself is remarkably historic while being beautifully updated. The Burch and Vine Restaurant offered delightful cuisine, including room service for those evenings that we just wanted to enjoy our plush room and a good movie. The roof top Canopy Bar offered a beautiful view of the water across the park.

The staff were exceptionally accommodating but we hated having to ask for ice rather than having access to it ourselves. It’s a small thing, but something we’ve become accustomed to during our travels. There was construction on an adjoining building which began early in the morning during the workweek. The noise of the crowd during Happy Hour was a bit distracting.

Loved the location. The hotel was beautiful and well kept. The staff was friendly. Loved the rooftop bar! Everything was exceptionally clean. The beds were very comfortable and we loved that the air conditioning worked really well. Friendly staff too. We would stay here again.

The only two things we did not like about the hotel was that there was no cleaning/maid service. We were told we needed to call to have service provided. Did not realize it was only for towels and trash. We did receive new towels one day when we asked. The second time we asked, we never received them. Would have loved to have coffee replacement each day and the bed made. This is just our preference, though. The second, was that the bathroom was dark - not enough lighting. As a woman, I need good lighting in the bathroom. Otherwise, the room/hotel was perfect.

The location and the staff and the room were excellent! We walked to food and bars and to Vinoy Park for the Reggae Rise Up festival every day. The front desk people were nice and went out of their way for us. One even went to our car that was parked in valet and looked for a pair of sunglasses for us, and brought back our chair so we could take it to the festival. We had heard the room could be noisy so we took our portable sound machine and had no issues with restaurant patrons or other guests coming home later than us and talking loudly in the hall.

The rooms don't have mini-fridges but you can request one. It seems like they could put one in each room permanently since there's only 18 rooms. Also there's no place to get ice, you have to request it from the front desk which is not staffed after 11. And no vending to pick up a soda or bottled water. We bought them from the Gelato place next door after we went a night with no water. The lighting in the bathroom wasn't conducive to seeing yourself clearly in the mirror for make-up, shaving and putting in contacts.

I liked that there was a valet outside to help us. Staff is minimal & wear several hats though, with the front desk closed in the evening. The room (bathroom in particular) is gorgeous! French doors and beautiful tub with separate shower. The room is VERY DARK and no mirrors. Recommend bringing a light up makeup mirror that can also be used with a water bottle to brighten up the room (Amazon). No frig, no ice machine. I had the ice bucket filled at the bar. Really nice location. Food & service was good at restaurant.

Late checkin, no holding bags.

The Birchwood is a charming hotel in a fabulous location along St. Pete's Beach Drive, across the street from Vinoy Park and the waterfront. We had an incredible dinner at Birch and Vine ~ 5 people and EVERY dish was a winner, none of us could decide which was our favorite and our server Javier made the evening. As a guest of the hotel, you receive a discount 20% in the restaurant, which we were unaware of until after our dinner. When we mentioned it to the manager the next morning, he exhibited excellent customer service by offering to find the dinner bill from the previous night and apply the credit to our room charge, which is very impressive in today's world. Gorgeous room and spacious, beautifully appointment bathroom with a shower and clawfoot tub that is swoon worthy. Delicious breakfast the previous morning included.

Since this is an older hotel, it's not great for sound insulation. Although The Canopy Roof Top Bar is one of the reasons we chose to stay at The Birchwood (we were checking out a wedding after-party spot for our daughter's upcoming wedding) it is LOUD. Our room faced the walkway near the elevator to the club entrance, so we heard every conversation. The next morning, we also had blowers outside our room at 8am. If you will be one of the people up partying until 2am, you'll LOVE the convenience. If you want a good night's sleep, be prepared and bring ear plugs :)

Great location, beautiful accommodations, and wonderful staff.

The guy at the front desk was awesome, but we felt bad that he was responsible for answering the phone, checking in/ checking out guests, tagging luggage, and being the valet which sometimes meant the desk was unmanned. We didn't mind waiting and it wasn't a very long wait, but we just felt bad that he was the only one doing all those jobs.... hire someone to help him out! Or assign one of the many wait staff that were available to help him out.

Location was perfect. Restaurant and rooftop bar superior. Staff very helpful, friendly, sincere.

Very small things - service for the hot breakfast items had no place to put plate, I could have used an extra hand to (1) lift the lid, (2) hold the plate and (3) scoop the food. Managed by moving aside the spoon rest and resting the plate on the bar. As nice as the open air rooftop seating was, an extension of the canopy would have been nice. The soaking tup experience was lovely. A shelf or ? to hold soap, bath accessories, etc. while in the tub within easy reach would have been nicer.

The Birchwood hosted my daughters wedding, and I can’t say enough about it. The Venue provides an intimate setting with all the amenities! We had no need to leave the venue being everything you need is there, from the breakfast to dinner and the entertainment at the rooftop bar! The staff was there to provide every request with a smile. Looking forward to a visit for a weekend getaway in the incredibly romantic rooms!

We arrived on a Friday afternoon, and the unloading of our cars to the hotel was a bit inconvenient being there is no way to pull closer to the venue.

Very cute and funky. The bar is beautiful. Amazing breakfast service. Breakfast is complimentary, but they do not skimp on the service. Best scrambled eggs, really good bacon and brioche toast (I think it was brioche). Loved the soaking tub and the decor was lovely. It's a very intimate boutique hotel and my husband who is hates hotels just loved this place. My husband isn't a guy that would necessarily love your typical 5 star hotel. He finds those hotels cold and sterile. He was just tickled by the architecture and all the unexpected touches that make this place so memorable.

The downside was that these blowers went off at 7 am in the morning. Also the valet situation is kind of weird. If you don't know where you are going, you won't know what space to pull into and it's fairly inconvenient. However, once you settle in and get to the front desk, it's an absolutely great experience. It is amazing for what it is...a quaint boutique hotel. The hotel will never be able to offer all the services of a JW Marriott or Ritz Carlton, but it makes up for these deficiencies with the quirky perks

The location of the Birchwood was amazing, we were in the heart of the St. Pete pier area which we were looking for. We didn't need to use our car at all, using the central ave. trolley for the Rays baseball game, rented bikes one morning and walked to the great local restaurants. The Birchwood has daily complimentary breakfast, which was very good. The Birch and Vine had a great atmosphere, with delicious food and service.

Not much, we truly enjoyed our stay. The only thing I would say is to ask if the guest is staying at the hotel at Birch and Vine, we had a 20% off coupon given at check-in and forgot to use it.
