We had booked the Salana Hotel from a Thursday to the following Saturday. We had asked if we could check in on Thursday morning as we had to leave the hotel on Friday evening because of our night trains from and to Bangkok. We arrived at the hotel shortly before 10am on Thursday, famished, and asked for breakfast, which we had paid for on Saturday but couldn't have because of our early departure at Friday evening. The receptionist didn't feel able to let us join the breakfast buffet, which was still open for half an hour. Instead, he offered us a packed lunch for Saturday. We moved into our room around eleven o‘clock. Two days later, the same man at reception was unable to order a taxi to the station.

The restaurant- although very nice- didn't really serve any Lao food for dinner - it tried to hard to serve fancy French food - but when people come to Vientiane they would like to have some nice quality local food! Their breakfast was yummy with many made to order options to accompany their buffet. Their noodles were great! Our A/C unit was noisy sometimes - sometimes quiet and sometimes noisy. We used a sound machine to neutralise it so that it didn't affect us.

Location is excellent for access to Vientiane nightlife, night markets, street side eating. This review relates to larger rooms on the 6th floor. The room was impressively big. The bathroom also featured a jacuzzi bath which was fun. We had a rear facing room there was still some noise hit it was not intrusive. We took the room only rate as there are good cafes nearby for breakfast.

Watch out for the changes in level on entry to the stairs, rooms and especially the bathroom. So easy to stub your toe.

Salana is located in the centre - this is what we like about our hotels. It is on a lively street with many restaurants, close to the evening market and 1.4 km from the morning market, there are plenty of transport options around. Staff was very friendly and welcoming, everyone tried to please the guests, we had one or two issues to resolve but they were quickly solved. I must especially praise Mrs Mit, who helped me with some requests and was extremely helpful. Breakfast was excellent and since we were leaving early, we were given boxes to take away with us. We travel often and stay in good hotels, but Salana offers one of the best breakfasts around. Room was large and comfortable, air con was running very well, shower was generous and it was enough towels to shower a few times a day (Laos is very hot this time of the year, 34C - 38C) We had scrubs and massages and were pleased with those too. The spa is managed very well. Overall we had a lovely experience and will come back next year.

A few steps from night market and many good restaurants. Lovely front office either ladies and boys, they take care of you and try to accommodate all your needs . A special thanks to the guest service Mr. Viengxai which dedicate his driving to the guests based on their needs also for long daily tour. Rooms are very clean and very high quality products at breakfast in the elegant restaurant on first floor. Very respectful to the environment I would higly raccomend also for female solo traveller as you will feel like home .

Stayed four nights here and to be honest I could find no fault whatsoever about the hotel. I have travelled extensively over the years and have stayed at some of the best hotels in the world. This ranks up there with the best of them. All the staff speak perfect English and are extremely helpful and polite. The buffet breakfast was outstanding with so much choice and more importantly good quality. Breakfast was served between 6am and 10.30am which is extremely helpful if you are looking to catch an early flight or want to have a late breakfast. The room had everything you might need and was extremely clean. There is a beautifully furnished bar/lounge on the 4th floor. The hotel provided a car and driver for a day tour and my transfer to the airport. Ok it is not cheap by Laos standards but you get what you pay for and it does not get much better than this.

Very charming hotel with excellent service, very decent price and in a great location. Staff is kind, takes the time to explain, speak good English (not common in Laos) and can help with most logistical issues you may have (tours, tickets, shopping). Airport transfer is good (my pick up was late but the request was placed last minute to be honest). Cars are comfortable and drivers helpful. Price is also decent. The spa is not what you would find in a large 5 stars resort but it has lots of charm, calm and the massage is truly first class at an excellent price as well. There is an excellent souvenirs and wood handicraft shop in the hotel. The restaurant is of great quality albeit service can be a little slow if one is in a rush. But for the overall experience, charm, service and location, the price is very good and the hotel probably one of the best in Vientiane.

Only downside is rooms are a little small and the bed stiff.

I cannot say enough good things about the Salana Boutique Hotel in Vientiane. The hotel is very nice, located in a central part of town, and the staff extremely nice and accommodating. The breakfast was superb and the staff very friendly. I would definitely recommend staying at the Salana!

Location is great - proximity to the night market (Mekong River) and the market with food was useful. Pretty much walked everywhere from the hotel. Many food options nearby. The spa in the hotel is highly recommended. Breakfast was amazing, with many Asian and Western options (but a la carte portions were really small so had to order multiple). Staff were friendly.

The room was on the smallish side. No bath only shower. Worst of all, there were so many mosquitoes that my son woke up in the middle of the night - he had more than 10 bites on one arm no kidding! On Sunday morning, there's an alms-giving ceremony at the temple right next to the hotel so you'll hear gongs at 4:30am...make sure to draw down the curtains.

Location is fantastic and very close to the river, with good restaurants and coffee shops. Breakfast is superb, with a menu you can choose from and a buffet style if you want to serve yourself with good coffee and great service. We had a suite so it was maybe larger than a normal room....it has the biggest bed I have ever seem. Everything was clean, functioning and comfortable.
