As with all accommodations in Woodlyn Park, this is a really cool room for a night! Staying at a real aeroplane is a unique experience. The plane tail can easily fit four people. Even though there was another company staying at the cockpit at the same time we never even heard them. The surroundings are so beautiful with a lovely green landscape! The closeness to Waitomo Caves is also great as it only takes one minute to drive there. Everything was really clean and everything needed in a kitchen is in place. It’s really appreciated that there is a toilet and shower in the unit. Our overall feel though is that everything is a bit dated. We think it’s great for a night or two, but wouldn’t stay a long time here. But for the experience - give it a go!

We loved the Hobbit themed motel room. I first heard about the Woodlyn Park Motel about 20 years ago! The kids adored the bunk room. Beds were extremely comfortable and we had everything we needed and more. I’d read in other reviews that it was tired looking but apart from the boards above the door needing painted, everything else was excellent. We will remember our stay forever.
It would have been good to have a childrens’ play area and maybe somewhere to buy provisions such as bread and milk or coffee and ice cream, although Waitomo is only minutes away so we managed.

This is the third time we have stayed at Woodlyn Park. The first time was 12 year ago & we stayed in the ship then a few years later we booked the plane. We booked two rooms this time: the Hobbit Hole and the Train. The Hobbit hole is lovely - spacious and warm. My parents were delighted with their space The train looks great from the outside and has plenty of space inside The lady who checked us in was lovely
We felt the train was getting tired and needed some attention. -There were no plugs in either the kitchen or bathroom -The bathroom sink does not drain properly -The blinds in the bunk room are ripped -The main bedroom needs a hanging rail (I saw someone had suggested this back in 2021 too). Get rid of the big black chair and put some hanging storage in its place. -The main bed needs replacing as it dips in the middle. I also don't like the way it is jammed against the wall

What a fun place to stay. Daughter loved it in the boat. Her highlight was feeding and talking to the pig everyday. So quiet with lovely bird song. Very friendly, helpful owner. An upgrade would make it fantastic, but being old and quirky gives it character. Even though mostly booked out we never saw most people. Just the others on the ship units and only once. It was great. We recommend staying here.
There's not much we didn't like. Our fridge was a bit noisy through the first night but didnt hear it the second night. Also we couldn't find the TV remote and just used the buttons, no biggie. So, if that's all there is to dislike, I think that's pretty good.

Great venue in beautiful countryside. We loved the quirky accommodation options and the kids loved the animals in the nearby paddocks.
We stayed in one of the boat units ("Titanic") with our family of four young children. The photos had not indicated that the extra bedrooms were downstairs - our kids are too scared to sleep that far away from us so we had to relocate mattresses to the top floor where my wife and I slept. If we had known the bedrooms were that far away we would have chosen a different place to stay. That said, it worked out and we loved the spot. Would definitely enjoy staying again!

Stayed in the train and it was more spacious than original thought. LOVED the view from the windows. Kids loved the countryside. Beds were comfortable and the aircon was a plus. Super close to the caves.
Accommodation was fabulous - nothing to complain. If you plan to dine out, please be aware there are only 2 options in the village which are quite busy and during peak times you wait for 1h for your food.

We stayed in Hobbit unit 1. Great place for Hobbit lovers. The unit was clean and cozy and the beds comfortable. There are outside benches and a barbecue table.
The kitchen could be better equipped. It is ok for breakfast, but it gets tricky to cook a family dinner with only one small saucepan and a large electric frying pan. There are no dishes to use for cooking in the microwave.

The location was great- close to the glowworm caves with nearby restaurants and bars. The unique “rooms”- an airplane, ship, train car, etc- were a gift hit with our kids, and the property has a ton of open space and wildlife. The heated blankets were a lovely touch
It did get quite cold with only 1 small heater, and the shower was incredibly small. A small price to pay to allow my sons to sleep in a real airplane!

The property was tucked away from the hussle and bustle of everyday life. It was on a beautiful property. We did not know when we would be arriving so we messaged the property. We had a prompt reply that told us no worries. The host said he would pop the key under the mat and would have the light, heater and TV on for arrival which he did. We stayed in the cave house so if you like LOTR this is definitely a must. It was very comfortable, clean and the property had a beautiful ambiance. We wished we had of booked more than just one night.

This is just a really cool place, very unique. We stayed in a SHIP! It had been pulled up from the sea and sits in a valley, just a little down the road from Waitomo Caves! And it was just super cool! My friend said "This is the best hotel room I've ever stayed in!"
It looks like the place may be in danger of becoming run down. But right now it's great!
