We stayed at the Inn over New Years which meant it was a little more expensive than normal but such a lovely place to stay. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. We were celebrating a birthday and, on request, they put a card, balloons and wine (paid for) in the room ahead of us arriving. The room was comfy and clean, the shower was lovely, warm and big. There was the option to have a continental style breakfast each morning and fresh coffee from the bar. The food was the best pie we had all week and the bus stop into Edinburgh was barely a 30 second walk away.

Room very small & expensive for a room that size. Having said that, dimensions are clear when booking. However, large double bed maybe means most people (including me) don’t pay attention to that? I couldn’t open my suitcase without putting it on the bed, it was that small & I would imagine not great for 2 people - no drawers or wardrobe etc, so not suitable room for more than a one night stop.

What a great place. The room was smaller than I expected but that's my fault for not looking properly when I booked. Larger rooms are available. We stayed for 3 nights and I don't travel light. The room was very comfortable with big white fluffy towels and was very clean. There were tea and coffee available in the room along with fresh water. On the landing each morning, fresh pastries fruit and cereal were laid out with milk fruit juices and yoghurt in a fridge for you to help yourself and take back to your room. The owner, Ben, and his staff were very friendly and offered lots of local knowledge as well as great conversation. The Balerno Inn also has a restaurant and bar, we were not pressured into eating there, but we did and were not disappointed. The food is very very good and the restaurant and bar area had a great atmosphere. I would highly recommend the roast beef dinner on a Sunday it was amazing, although a vegetarian roast dinner on the menu would have been appreciated as my partner is a vegetarian. The Balerno Inn is situated in a lovely village with very good bus links into the city of Edinburgh, which was the purpose of our stay. If I had to mark the Balerno Inn out of 10 I would give it 20. We will definitely return for future visits.

The welcome and general interaction with staff was exceptional. The room was beautifully appointed and the "grab and co" breakfast was perfect. We ate there and all our menu choices, and suggestions from staff, were spot on and we will recommend this restaurant to friends and family.

We didn't expect the inn to be better than some of the hotels we've stayed in. The staff is super nice, and if you're looking for dinner, there's a good selection of dishes available.

Parking is not on the property, but it's free and just a 1-2 minute walk away. You can also pop into the shop to grab some snacks or something for your room.

Small hotel with friendly, welcoming staff, good sized comfortable rooms, great shower. Easy access to Edinburgh by bus, every 20mins (stop literally 2min walk & saved taking the car). Good selection of food & drinks on offer in bar area.

Room was right outside kitchen area, so quite noisy at times. Good selection offered for cold breakfast, just not used to eating in the room, (knew this was the case before booking from other reviews). Wouldn't put us off booking again tho!

The manager,Ben, was fantastic. We arrived too early to check in so we had lunch in the restaurant (good food!), then sat outside in the backyard patio area. Our room was small but comfy. We wandered around the beautiful town and gardens later in the afternoon.

They were doing construction on the building so our afternoon "nap time" was disturbed.

The breakfast was terrible!!! it was simply a few croissants laid out the night before and left to go stale, with a selection of kids cereal boxes and a banana. You eat back at your room but with no table to eat from and so no choice but to eat in the bed. this was a real disappointment and such a surprise given how amazing the food and restaurant is in the evening.

Excellent place to stay eat and drink. Staff were brilliant from the get go. The room was amazing then bathroom was brand new or well looked after. The room and bathroom were good size. Very clean. I like to sleep with the window open year round and it was very quiet on a night. Would most definitely stay again.
