Location, history/ambience, all staff pleasant and efficient.

Room temperature too high, too many stairs to access room- I recognise the age and construction of the hotel.

Great location and comfortable room. Nothing has changed much over the last 35 years when we first stayed there

An extra charge was put on the credit card on arrival

Beautifully kept property and so lovely to learn about the history of the building. The staff were excellent and extremely attentive. We also received a complimentary ride in one of their beautiful Bentleys around the city which was a wonderful treat. It was my daughter’s birthday and they even left her a card with a selection of sweets as a gift, a lovely touch.

Some of the decor was a little tired and we got put in the bar for breakfast which didn’t have quite the same atmosphere as the main restaurant - although the staff did apologise as it was due to the restaurant being too busy

The location of this hotel is fantastic, it's so easy to walk everywhere especially to the cathedral. The free city tour in a Bentley is a lovely added bonus. The staff are all lovely and friendly. Breakfast is really good and I can highly recommend the afternoon tea too. We had a lovely room in the oldest part of the hotel and the bed was extremely comfortable.

The only place to hang the towels in the bathroom is on the heated towel rail but it never seemed to be on. There was nothing to hold on to when climbing in and out of the bath to take a shower and I was a little worried about slipping. A small grab rail would be a great addition.

Lovely friendly attentive staff, from when checking in/out and also in the restaurant etc. Beautiful historic location to stay in. Both rooms we'd booked were lovely, everything you'd needed for the stay. The breakfast was mouthwatering and fabulous. I had requested to have a birthday cake made especially for my husband. It didn't disappoint and made my husbands day, he absolutely adored it.

I've had afternoon tea before at this establishment, back in December of 2022 and it was amazing. The whole stand was rammed full with a variety of delicious goodies, so much so that we had to take a goodie bag home because we couldn't finish it all. Roll forward to the present day, portions a lot smaller and the price per person had increased by £6 to £30 each. The scones have definitely shrunk in size.

Central location, warm and helpful staff, great breakfast

No issues as such. Windows in our room didnt close at all and it was in peak winter. They changed our rooms immediately and to ensure the new room warms up quickly, we also got a portable heater. The executive room had a king size bed which was basically 2 single beds joined together. So there was a gap in between the 2 mattresses which was uncomfortable. We found some broken glass pieces on the carpet floor, since there were no room slippers (if needed, pay extra) then we kept our sneakers on, which was uncomfortable.

The staff were exceptional; charming and helpful. The breakfast was delicious.

The TV in our standard room didn’t have Netflix as the controller suggested. The man on reception upgraded our room so that was great. The TV in the new room was a Smart TV but the setup wasn’t right because it wasn’t possible to sign into my own Amazon account. It was locked to someone else’s. The helpful member of staff then helped us onto a faster WiFi network so we could watch the film via mirroring. So we got there in the end but they clearly need to manage their TVs a bit better.

Loved the location (next door to a very beautiful Wetherspoons pub…and I don’t usually like that chain) close to the river, cathedral, restaurants and shops. The service, friendliness and professionalism was top notch. The beds were comfy and the room nicely decorated and well set out with everything we needed. There’s a lift (we were on the 4th floor) and areas to sit downstairs if you like people watching. The breakfast area is really lovely with plenty of room.

The only thing stopping us from marking it exceptional was that there was no butter (only Flora) on both mornings. I understand that they ran out but even I could have popped to the supermarket for some for the second day. Also the room was very cold. Great for bedtime as I don’t like a hot room when I’m under a duvet but it would have been nice to have had some heat the rest of the time.

The hotel was charming and full of character, with several public rooms and sitting areas on different levels. My room was compact, but well-appointed with a nice big window (that actually opened), a desk, small sitting area and a lovely big bathroom. Everything was very clean and looked newly renovated. The bed was comfortable and the room was very quiet. The buffet breakfast was delicious and included everything you could want in a full English breakfast and the staff were very attentive in bringing pots of tea and refills when requested. The front desk staff were especially helpful and kindly printed a pdf document for me that I needed immediately. The old-fashioned sweets available in the lobby was a nice touch. Don’t miss the rhubarb and custard ones. They’re delicious! I especially appreciated the convenience of the hotel’s location. I arrived by train and took a short taxi ride from the station. After that I was able to walk everywhere I wanted to go in the old city center. The cathedral is just across the street from the hotel, the castle is a five-minute walk, and the market, excellent restaurants and shops are within easy walking distance. It was just what I was looking for and I would definitely stay again if I return to Norwich.

Because it is such an old property the hotel is a rabbit warren of corridors and stairs. I got a bit lost looking for my room when I first arrived and better signs with directions would be helpful. But that was only a minor annoyance because I was schlepping my luggage with me; after a few trips in and out the route became familiar.

Every one of the staff was attentive, friendly and just generally nice. There was a very good atmosphere. Once we’d got the hang of breakfast that was a great experience. (The hot buffet was not perhaps the best.) We had dinner at the hotel on the first night and it was very pleasant. The housekeeping staff were terrific, the bed was huge and the location is right at the heart of the city. Will definitely return but next time to one of the fancier rooms. Thanks to all.

It would be hard to see the bedroom as top-notch. It was beautifully clean but some of the fittings were from another age (low-fi TV and step-in shower over bath) so it wasn’t staggeringly better than a chain hotel room. The view was of the car park and there was nowhere to unpack our clothes. But it was still lovely, with a great shower, comfy bed and very quiet, in the hotel if not outside. Many thanks for a special stay in a glorious city. We only wished it had been longer.
