Location was excellent. I really liked the room and felt it was very pretty, light and airy. The toilet facilities were a lot better than I had expected and very clean and came with soap and shower gel. The wifi was fast and useful. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The only thing I would have preferred is if there was a breakfast. However, the staff were very informative on why we didn't get breakfast and said that they hadn't yet got a chef for breakfast yet so I didn't find it too much of an issue anyway, especially considering there were lots of breakfast places nearby such as 'Spring'.

The building was lovely , the pub was great . The food was fantastic and really reasonably priced

Location is great, with lots of places to eat and drink nearby. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cooked breakfast (not included) was very good. I thought it would be noisy at night, but it wasn't, and I slept well.

Don't expect a hotel-standard room - this is a basic room in an inn. The room is cramped and the position of the bathroom creates a deep, narrow alcove to the window. The bed is in a corner. Had to move furniture to watch TV in bed. No air con or fridge. Having said all that, it was all fine for our one-night stay and I would stay again.

Very welcoming and clean. Really good friendly bar downstairs and the breakfast offered in the morning with 10% off for hotel guests was excellent using better quality ingredients than some of the big, more expensive hotel chains. The quad room at £162 per night was perfect for myself and 2 friends and less than half the price of the larger hotels in York. Loads of storage in the room. A very short walk into the centre and 5 mins around the corner to the theatre made this a perfect choice. I would definitely choose this pub hotel again. I've seen some complaints about the Shisha bar on site but as it's outside I can't understand why anyone has a problem with it.

Slightly dated bathroom but not a major problem

The hotel is rooms above a pub. It's an old building. It is super central. There's a great traditional pub under the accommodation which had great looking fish and chips(we didn't have time to try them). The staff were friendly. IT met all our requirements and we had a great trip. We'd definitely book here again.

It's not a Travelodge. It's an old building. The floor has an incline and the fixtures and fittings have lots of "Character". It's right in the centre of York on a quaint old street. Be aware that York is a vibrant city and there's some street noise. This didn't affect two adults or a toddler getting a good night's sleep - but make sure you pack ear plugs if you are sensitive to this type of thing. None of these things bothered us.

Location was around 15 minutes from the railway station. Great location to access York, especially close to York Barbican. As it is not manned 24 hours as it is an inn there were staff around to assist in booking in etc. Staff were very attentive, friendly. A bonus of the stay. Really do a great job with the customers and in keeping the rooms as clean as possible. The bed was so comfortable. Room was adequate for a single person. Tea and coffee making facilities were in the room. Stayed for an evening meal. Although original choice wasn't available I chose the salmon. I can say it was well cooked, well presented and enjoyed the meal thoroughly. Decided on breakfast. This was lovely. I have to say I thought the quality of the ingredients was really good. I can say that the food served is lovely. It was possible to leave the room window open. This gets a bonus point from me. Facilities such as the shower were also pretty good. Overall a good enjoyable stay.

The room was a little noisy. There is always something in most hotels that probably need to be left on, so does create a noise.

Location is close to bars , restaurants etc...10/15 minute walk to city centre. Pub also does a great breakfast. Rooms are adequate for a 1 or 2 night stay. Also free car park on site is ideal.

There is not much room to place toiletries like toothbrush, toothpaste etc.. but it was not an issue, also you have to fill kettle up with cup because of small sink, again not a real issue.

staff were helpful and unlock the gate after been out as forgotten the code which I didn't expect of him to help so thank you.

it is not what I don't like, it's just need a bit of silicone replacing on central parts of shower cubicle may I suggest that you turn the hot water temp down abit or stick on warning sign hot label as yes its brilliant for hot water but worried that someone gets scalded especially kids . may I suggest to fix a thermostatic valve as will regulate the temp so this will save your headaches of courts.. I am not complaining as just want to help would I stay here again? yes I will for the valve that was suitable for my pocket as I don't justify paying hundreds for me bring out most of the day

The pictures reflect what you get, I knew it wasn't going to be posh, is the typical English style hotel, perfect for few night, it has everything you need and I found all the staff super helpful and kind. So far the best place I have been in York. Getting in and out the gate is easy at any time you go back, breakfast was also really good I did have it included but it was discontinued because I was sleeping there and there was a very nice selection of food. It also has a parking that you can use which is York is very hard to find and the location is brilliant.

Nothing I didn't like.

The best thing about the Watergate Inn is its location, being in the old part of town and walking distance from points of interest, historic sites, shops and eateries. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms though basic are comfortable enough.

As usual with budget accommodation in the UK don’t expect a bar fridge or even water glasses! Also it was a double room but only had one bedside lamp. These are small inconveniences and not uncommon in this part of the world.
