I took a single room, with a bathroom and it had everything I needed for a cosy stay. The street is quiet at night so I had a good night's sleep. I unfortunately arrived later than expected to check in so could not book breakfast, but I was up and out early anyway so could grab a bite on the way into town. The hostess was very pleasant and helpful - thank you for your assistance!

The wifi in my room didn't work, but I arrived late in the evening and was asleep shortly after that so it was no bother. Might be worth checking the connectivity in that part of the building.

Location brilliant very close to the Barbican Walking distance to city centre only minutes, the breakfast was huge with lots of different items too much for our appetite shame we had to leave some

It was everything we wanted and expected we were happy to be there and the staff were brilliant and very approachable with lots of information of places to go we stayed for 4 nights and was asked on numerous occasions if we wanted or needed in the room wil definitely look to stay there again if it’s available

Brilliant location, 15 mins walk from the Shambles, plenty of food and drink nearby. Perfect for a shopping trip to York. Also parking which was a great bonus. Room was clean and modern, and was impressed with the bathroom. Really friendly staff, stopped in the bar for a few drinks in the evening and was a lovely atmosphere.

I have no complaints for the price. Unfortunately we stayed on the hottest day so far this year and there is no air con, which was a little bit annoying, but lets face it, how often do you need aircon in this country? Is above a pub so some noise from outside, but didn't go on very late and didn't bother us at all.

Arrived and parked car then checked in , which was quick and easy , I was staying in room 5 ( single room ) it was spotless and well presented. Breakfast on both days was fantastic , the pub below the accommodation is traditional and full of character , cannot fault anything as staff were so helpful and friendly , nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for making my short visit to York really enjoyable. Wish you all the very best

The staff were lovely and room very comfortable and clean. Excellent location with free parking just what we required for our stay.

There was a green light security light in the ceiling which was quite bright and kept us awake and the shower pressure was very low but understand that may have been temporary problem caused by a one off leak before we arrived. There was a band on in the pub which was noisy in the room until closing time but only to be expected if you stay above a pub!

Great sized shower with hot water but very low water pressure. Fantastic room but quite thin walls as could hear other rooms conversations/snoring at night.

Check-in was smooth and easy. Car park, even though I'd looked at the property on Google maps, it still caught me off-guard in my approach that Google took me to the street to the left of the property when the car park is to the right of it. I was able to leave my car parked in the car park after checking out (just before 8am), while I explored the city (was completely gone by 11:15am-ish). Great location - to do a loop of; walk from pub to Shambles, the Minster, the city walls, and back would take 45ish mins! It's also pretty flat too - after having walked around some of the hillier towns and cities in the past week, it was a refreshing change! Had a window planter full of beautiful and colourful flowers. I brought my earbud headphones as well as Loop earplugs, because (unsurprisingly, being above a pub) it was a bit loud in the evening. Preparation and understanding of where you've booked is necessary! I was still able to sleep early, during the noise, and woke up long after it had finished! A small recommendation; to have a waste paper basket/generic small bin in the main room - not just a small pedal bathroom bin.

Mattress was rather uncomfortable and loud - am a fidgeter in my sleep and the sounds from the bed when I was moving would wake me up.

This was a lovely hotel with 5 rooms above the bar. The owners were lovely and so friendly and helpful. The room was a great size, really clean with homely touches, including pictures on the wall, complimentary shower gel and shampoo, and also tea, coffee, and biscuits. The bed was so comfortable as well. It is ideally situated for the Barbican Theatre, which is a 5-minute walk away. I will definately stay there again.

There was nothing I didn't like about the hotel.

Very good small room for solo travelers. Decent location outside the walls but within walking distance of the centre of York. Pub itself was nice enough.

The room is quite small, which is fine since it's a single bed for a solo traveler. The only issue is, because of the size of the room, there's a desk and some drawers etc., but there isn't anything like a chair, so if you want to just sit and relax or watch telly or whatever, you have to sit on the bed.

Was not expecting such a BIG breakfast but it certainly got us well fuelled up for the day ahead and was served hot.Have slight mobility issues but the stairs have a Very good hand rail and gave me plenty of support holding on to it, not that meny stairs 😀 👍

No shower mat, but just used a bath mat as the shower base was very slippery which ws not a problem as one was left out for me to use when I asked about it , I have a fear of slipping in a shower. I have slight mobility issues.
