Cozy atmosphere hotel with a very accomodating staff. Onsen in the room was fantastic.

No sidewalk to the hotel so it might be dangerous to reach on foot, especially after dark. Ask the hotel staff for the free shuttle service from Kowakidani station.

It is a beautiful hotel and we had a beautiful room with a private onsen tub. We had a suite that had a bedroom and separate lounge area with a huge day bed surrounded by woodland views. We also used one of the private onsen rooms available on a first come first serve basis and it was a great experience. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

Although our room was largely wonderful, our bed needed updating. Our suite was very much suited to a romantic break for a couple but our bed was two singles pushed together with separate duvets. That is quite traditional in Japan but even taking that into account, the mattresses themselves needed updating as they were old fashioned spring mattresses. Another small niggle is that I informed the hotel that my partner does not eat meat and I knew that they would not change the menu, but was surprised that they did not acknowledge this at at the start of the meal and at least ask if he would rather not have the meat put in front of him.

The staff was pleasant and the hotel is beautiful with spectacular open hot spring baths (private) in each room which is in addition to the private onsens (larger ones) available to use for all customers in the hotel. Regret not relaxing in the rooms next to these onsen which have a peaceful ambience. The primary purpose was to visit Hakone. The hotel staff was kind enough to drop us off in the hotel-car at the nearest train station. To visit Hakone, we took the route in the order - train, hill train, ropeway, ship, and finally the bus back to the hotel. I wouldn't recommend the route in the reverse because the distance between the station and the hotel is around a kilometre or two. The bus stand is around 100m away.

The food was great but not everyone's taste since it is a typical japanese meal. Also, the timing of the meal is rigid (around 18:30 in the evening and 08:00 in the morning) and at the discretion of the hotel though I think they were willing to wiggle it around by 15 mins or so. Also, the accommodation fee maybe a tad bit expensive.

tranquility and serene surroundings and in-room, public and family private hot spring facilities

dinner and breakfast have no other choices - for non-fish eaters like us is very disappointing. We have to return the breakfast and just drink coffee. please offer alternatives to fish for guests

We had a wonderful time at Hakone Nanase. The staff were very kind, especially the woman who welcomed us when we arrived. Our room was very comfortable and the in-room hot spring bath was positively luxurious after spending the day outside hiking in the surrounding area. The food was spectacular, with seasonal ingredients, beautifully presented. It was a perfect, relaxing getaway after the bright lights of Tokyo. A word of advice: The hotel is a bit remote, which we appreciated for the peace and quiet and proximity to nature. Access is easy enough via bus or the mountain railway, but I do recommend using the luggage transport service at the train station to send your bags ahead if you have cumbersome luggage, particularly if you plan to do any exploring between arriving in the region and checking in at the hotel.

Private onsen in room. Reception area Large room (although we paid extra for junior suite). Bed was comfortable.

Property is in need of update especially rooms as ours felt tired with old furniture and carpets need updating to give a more modern feel. Very expensive; breakfast should be included when you are paying high prices.

The food and the onsens were incredible. The dinner is usually a 7 course meal served over an hour and half so it's an entire experience. There is also an extensive list of alcohol options to purchase, and we sampled all the local sake options. P The room was big and it's great to have a private onsen in the room. The ensuite onsen was also a decent size, bigger than the standard bathtub. There are also three private onsens that you could use for most of the day. Because of the ensuite and private onsens, we didn't use the public one, but it did look quite nice. The hotel is conveniently located near the Jakotsuno bus stop, and one stop away from the Kowakidani train station. The hotel also has a on demand shuttle service that can take you to the train station. I also found a shortcut to the train station via a trail near the Jakotsuno bridge so you don't have to walk on the road shoulder.

The place is showing its age, but it's kept quite clean

It was calm and very well run. The meal services were excellent and the assistance in getting about was terrific. The meals were lovely, served in a little ‘booth’ in the restaurant so it was very private (so no one else saw me dropping rice off my chopsticks..). The facilities were great, with a private hot tub in our room as well as the ones available for couples or separate genders. The beds were comfortable and enormous, and the pyjama sets provided very comfy.

The facility was a little ‘tired’ with carpets and curtains needing a revitalisation. But the property is under new ownership so I expect these thongs will happen. The access to the outside was tricky and there wasn’t any where that we found where we could sit in comfort outside.

Food and presentation at breakfast and dinner were on par with a high-end restaurant. Every meal was perfectly plated. Had onsen in room, which made it very convenient to soak multiple times a day. Three private onsens with larger pools were also available. Along with a free matcha latte machine! (It had coffee and regular lattes as well) Great view of the valley below from the corner suite. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.

Nothing bad about the hotel, but it is a bit of a walk on the street from Kowakidani station. Would suggest transferring to bus and arriving at Jakotsuno bus stop.

Beautiful setting overlooking a river and conveniently located adjacent to a bus stop (Jakotsuno) on the Tozan H route. Room huge with enormous windows looking out on the river and forest, large sitting area with two sofas. Bed large and comfortable, very nice bed linens. En suite granite ofuro is open to the outside and features true hot spring water (wonderfully hot, so hot that it helps to add some cold water from the tap). Staff all wonderfully accommodating and helpful. Both dinner and breakfast served in semi-private dining rooms, kaiseki-style, at western-style tables and chairs. If you don’t love Japanese food, particularly fish, don’t stay here. Food was excellent, definitely some of the nicest food I’ve ever eaten, and elegantly presented. Raining heavily the morning we left, so hotel shuttled us the short drive to Kowakidani train station.

It’s a little bit worn around the edges, and (weirdly, to me) no longer uses the front lobby genkan (where one switches from outdoor to indoor shoes), probably because so many westerners find the practice awkward. Drapes over large windows can’t be drawn back to enjoy the view. No true rotenburo (fully outside hot spring baths, either shared or private), so we didn’t bother using them.
