April 2024

Our stay at the Renaissance Chelsea was close to perfect. Great location in leafy, hip Chelsea, away from the really busy areas of the city and but close to everything we wanted to visit either on foot or by bus/subway. Amazing staff (especially the bellman, housekeeping and front of house staff). Great breakfast too - continental breakfast offered as part of the Marriot Bonvoy members deal but we upgraded to full breakfast using the daily destination fee credit. Really fresh, ample buffet every day with lots of variety to cater for all tastes. Lovely, welcoming restaurant staff too.

I had messaged ahead to let the hotel know we were visiting the city to celebrate my daughter’s 18th birthday. I had rather hoped we would get a room with a spectacular view of the Empire State Building as other reviewers had. Sadly, while we were allocated the city view rooms we paid for, no exceptional view. The rooftop bar and pool are also deceptively inaccessible to hotel guests as it is a completely separate commercial venture so if you’re expecting to be able to pop up to take in the city views and enjoy a cocktail, it’s harder than you think. I also enquired about the hotel free bike hire as it would have been great to explore the city that way but was told this was a spring/summer only amenity (we were there in April!)

Room was nicely decorated and clean. I was there 3 nights and housekeeping tended to my room each day I was there (that's amazing)! Many hotels require you to 'request' housekeeping. Staff was friendly.

The room was nice, although small. Walls are too thin; I could hear people's conversation and when they coughed! Ridiculous. I also would prefer that the resort fee (a $30 credit for each day) would roll over be available until check out time, instead of the 'use it or lose it' approach. Breakfast was entirely overpriced! Ordering room service was a disaster. They must have been really busy because no one ever picked up my call, which made it harder to use the $30 credit.

Really lovely and spacious (for New York!) room, nice bathroom. Incredible views.

Our main issue was the staff response when the battery on our electronic door lock went dead. We had booked a nice restaurant for dinner and tried to come back to the hotel after a day walking in New York to get changed and ready, but found we couldn’t get in our room because the electronic lock had died. The electrician himself came quickly and was incredibly helpful but unfortunately we couldn’t get in the room in time and had to leave for our dinner reservation without access to our room. The staff at reception didn’t seem particularly bothered by this and there was no apology or even offer to organise us a cab to get us to dinner more quickly. Obviously the battery stopping working was outwith the control of the hotel but the response was definitely sub par.

The staff is wonderful, friendly, and accommodating! From concierge to front desk, the bar, and housekeeping. I did have an issue with my in room phone not working and a drainage issue in the shower, which were almost immediately addressed. Very clean and posh. The location is also great! I will stay in the Chelsea area again instead of Times Square next time I'm in the city.

Walls are a bit thin and I could hear snoring at night from the room next door. I still slept ok though because the bed is comfortable. The bar area and lobby are kind of small and it was crowded quite often.

Nice room with big balcony. Good bathroom with Aveda products. The hotel puts a €30 credit onto each room each day which is a nice “treat” to be spent in the bar/ restaurant. Bed was very very comfortable

Unfortunately there was a gas outage in the area so we had NO hot water for almost 2 days of our 3 night stay! Clearly that is outside the hotel’s control but the communication around it was quite poor- almost as if it were a common issue with nothing to be done. We were offered passes to a gym that was located quite a distance away (after I asked if there was any alternative option given no news about it being reinstated.) We opted to continue with the cold showers! No apology/mention offered on checkout. When I asked about that I was offered 10k Marriott points on my account. I have no idea what value that represents. This should have been better handled. Wardrobe space in our room was extremely limited. No long hanging for a dress, just one short rail in a cupboard for a few shirts

Location was great, staff were excellent, very nice hotel.

Parking was not accurately represented on booking.com. We went here because parking was included only to find out not for pick up trucks. We were prepared to pay extra for an SUV size car as advertised, but were denied outright due to it being a truck. This should be noted on the website and booking.com. We got rejected by 10 seperate parking garages before getting lucky and finding one where someone had just left. Not a great start to the trip.

The room was spacious for a NYC hotel! Staff was helpful and the process for checking-in and out was smooth.

I wish the staff had been more clear that our $30 credit could only be used before day of check-out. We thought we could use it at any point of stay and ended up not using the benefit.

The staff was very friendly. A gentleman made sure to greet me with some water as I checked in. I was asked if I would like to switch to a king bedroom with a better view…which was excellent. The mattress was very comfortable. I liked the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Also, the location of the hotel is good. Easy access to great areas of the city and close to our daughter’s work.

We were not given vouchers to use for the $30 a day. I know everything in New York is expensive, but the breakfast buffet was too expensive, and we had no voucher to use for it.
