Great affordable (well for NYC anyway) hostel in East Harlem with great connection (via Metro) to the central city. Facilities were clean and tidy and communication with the host was great. We were locked out at one point and he answered his phone immediately and was able to give us access within 1 minute.

While the aircon unit works well (as in it keeps the room very cold!!) it was extremely noisy and blew directly onto one of the beds. The person sleeping in this bed did not appreciate having to have ice cold air blowing on them all night. Turning the machine off was not an option in the middle of summer as the room becomes a sauna very quickly.

The hostel is right around the Corner of 116th St. Metro Line 6 Stop. There were several bus stops within walking distance. Interesting neighbourhood, with lots of housing-projects and homeless people (they were harmless!). Pavement rather filthy, which is common except for the glitzy area of Park Ave, 5th Ave, Upper East Side, etc. When we were there, the city of New York started the campaign that every house/apartment will get its own bin and that you have to put your rubbish bags in the bin so that they are collected (!) Our room was on the 1st floor, with its own toilet/bathtub. Spacious. Clean. It was practical as the house has narrow, steep front stairs, without a lift. Supermarkets are within walking distance (2 minutes around the corner!). At "City Fresh Market", here you will also find plenty of choice of water (even sparkling! which is not self-evident, because we have been to other supermarkets, such as Walmart, e.g. in Fairhaven, New England, where water is only available in mini 0.2 litre bottles and only still (!), but you can easily buy 5 litre Mount Dew soda bottles or Pepsi). There is also a large selection of fruit, vegetables and nuts (again: not to be taken for granted!). The hostel was clean, generally quiet (the door was so thin that if the neighbours were standing outside our door talking, you could hear it. But it didn't happen often). Independent check-in was also easy. The staff (Guest Service) were friendly, reacted promptly and helpful.

For a hostel, there is nothing to be said against setting up a common area, for example, with the option of making coffee (with kettle) and heating up food (microwave with grill function). This would massively improve the comfort level of the hostel. The room was not large (narrow cut), but has potential. For example, you could install a couple of more shelves as storage space. Likewise in the bathroom.

The room is exactly as described and pictured. For a hostel, we couldn’t really ask for more. Clean, equipped with basic bathroom necessities like hand soap, body soap and fresh towels. Air conditioning worked its wonders, as we were there during a heat wave. No refrigerator, but the corner store has ice cold drinks. Bed is comfortable for 2 and clean. Hostel is located one block from the subway—about 30 minutes total from Midtown.

Not the hostel‘s fault: with a broken foot it was a surprise that the room was at the top of 13 stairs. I could climb easily enough because I’m fit for it, but anyone with mobility issues would have difficulty here.

The hostel in East Harlem is new, clean and quiet and also conveniently located near train and bus stops, making it easy to explore the city. Plus, it's just a short walk from Central Park, offering a great escape. The neighborhood is well-connected, making all tourist attractions easily accessible. I'd definitely recommend it for its convenience and proximity to the city's highlights and the local food. Also staff were very kind, attentive and helpful with tips and suggestions at all times which was really fantastic. They're really hands-on and they worry about their guests satisfaction and wellbeing. Really great people.

The area might not the most upscale or elegant. It's Harlem. Still has loads of personality and I did feel safe at all times. You're right in the middle of everything and it's totally worth it to walk a little.

Price. Privacy. I had a 2 person queen with private bath. Perfect for me and my son. I would stay here again honestly. A little out of the way on the 6 uptown train but a good relaxing ride back to room in evening if you know what you are doing on the train.

Only 1 towel person for 5 days is a little harsh. No central heat in winter is a bummer. They did supply a space heater but obviously wants it off when not in room so made returning to room at night very chilly.

Our room was very small, but all was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room had an air conditioner and also a heater. Very good quality for the price. Hostel is close to the subway station leading right to the downtown Manhattan. Many eating options nearby. The hostel offered us early checkin and late checkout for free as probably nobody booked the room after us. Thanks for that!

As many people already wrote, there are weird and drugged people around this location. But we never felt in danger.

We had lovely time in New York. The hostel was nice and clean, bed was very comfortable and clean. I also felt safe in the hostel. Friendly people in restaurants and shops around.

The area was a bit scary because of drug addicted people. It would be great if a little kettle was there in the kitchen area, otherwise perfect.

Excellent location. Inexpensive food available in vicinity. Close to subway. Price could not be beat. Reachable by public transport to and from LAG airport if one has the time.

Bathmat needed for personal use for each room. I pointed this out and owner will provide this amenity. Wished for access to hot water for making tea or coffee but owner explained problems involved.

Great hostel to stay close to the center of Manhattan. There is a metro stop just around the corner that takes you to the center in a few minutes. Perfect room to spend a few days visiting the city if you don’t want to spend a lot of money. The personal was very fast to reply to anything needed

The room and toilet are clean and spacious for its value. We had a great experience. It’s a 3-minute walk from subway.

We stayed on the third floor on our first night and we had a bit of challenge moving our luggage since the stairs were not that wide, but overall it was still okay we still love the place.
