Stayed here with my son and was concerned it wouldn’t be suitable for him. How wrong was I! We stayed in 3 hotels over the course of our visit and this was definitely the best. Our room though only a classic was really spacious, clean and everything you needed. The bathroom super cosy with heated flooring. It was the cheapest stay of the 3 hotels we were in for the trip, yet the largest room. I can only assume it’s because the location is on a main road and not best positioned to get in to town (though still only about 20mins), but for us ideal as we were using it as a base to travel outside of York anyhow. We had a lovely meal for dinner, my son usually has an adults meal being 11, but their child’s menu was ideal for him with great sized portions and plenty of choice. Staff were all excellent, especially at dinner and made us both feel very comfortable. I will always chose an HDV now over others and would highly recommend. Great sized carpark with plenty of space for £15 a night.

Location maybe not the best. On a main road.

We arrived in York earlier than planned and the hotel staff allowed us to check in a couple of hours early which was really helpful! The staff were very warm and welcoming throughout our stay! We stayed in a Deluxe room which felt so luxurious and spacious when we walked in. I was in awe of the wallpaper and enormous stand-alone bath. The bed felt like a giant squidgy cuddly marshmallow which made a good night's sleep a breeze. Breakfast was delightful. We both ordered the full English which was perfectly cooked and the perfect portion. The breakfast buffet was also perfect as there was good variety and presented so prettily. The dining room, bar and lounge area were very cosy and clean. They have an impressive wine list. I had their alsace reisling was lovely and chilled perfectly. We would 100% stay here again! A great thing about this hotel is that whilst it is only a short walk (took us just over 15 minutes) into the city centre, it is on a much quieter road which is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle after a day of exploring York.

There was nothing we did not like!

Very easy to find, plenty of parking if you arrive in the afternoon. Staff were very helpful and just the right level of attentive. Room was absolutely perfect (we had a suite offered on arrival for a very reasonable additiona amountl) great distance from the city centre. Offered to look after my bags the following morning (husband had a meeting so I had a few hours to kill) when I said I'd leave them in the car because I was going to move it, they immediately said I could leave it there while I went to the Christmas markets. It was a last minute booking with zero research, but would highly recommend and will definitely return.

Our room was in the 'new' block/annexe. We were so impressed with it. Really comfy bed with delicious duvet cover and soft pillows. Glasses (not plastic) on the tray and the bathroom, with complimentary water every day. The bathroom gel, shampoo etc smelled delicious. Sweet cleaning lady, we left her a tip as we were so pleased. Had two excellent breakfasts and two dinners - all very good with very nice staff. Several different areas to sit and have a drink or just relax. Good bar, the House Red is excellent. Free parking at the back. A lovely stay.

Ashtrays outside the main doors/side exit would be a very good idea, and would avoid people leaving cigarette butts on the paving or in the flower beds. There is a designated hut for smokers but as it was raining all the time we were there, I suppose people didn't want to walk to it....

I booked this hotel for two nights to surprise my wife for her birthday, and the team went above and beyond to make it special. They decorated the room with balloons and left a lovely card, which added a thoughtful touch to our stay. The room was impeccably clean, and breakfast was fantastic with a great selection. But what truly stood out was the hotel staff – they were incredibly welcoming, polite, and always smiling. They were ready to help at every moment, making us feel right at home. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for exceptional service and a warm atmosphere!

The ground floor room & provision of a travel cot made travelling with a baby under one seamless. The hotel & room were beautiful, comfortable, and relaxing, not to mention, the location was perfect! Within easy walking distance of the train station and the shambles, but in a quiet part of York. Lovely bar and eating areas too.

The hotel in York was great. Nothing not to like. Our one criticism was regarding booking through the central server. When we got in touch with Hotel Du Vin to book directly using their own website, there was no portal for requests, so we enquired directly via the chains email about cots. We were told that we would need to book a superior suite in York in order to accommodate our request. Yet, we managed to arrange a classic room through booking.com, and the hotel was able to fulfil our request. We did not like the unnecessary upselling and dishonest information.

The rooms are gorgeous, modern and spotlessly clean with blackout curtains and comfortable beds. Staff are very friendly and accommodating, they let us leave our car for a few hours after check out and when we were leaving the car windscreen had been covered in bird poo and the staff helped us clean it! They went above and beyond- the lady at breakfast was also super friendly and made a fuss of the young children.

Being picky the main light bulbs were out but didn’t bother us as there are lamps and we only stayed one night, there was also no toilet brush and you could hear people above walking round very clearly. It may be a bit far to walk into the centre for elderly/ those with mobility issues.

I was incredibly lucky and had my room upgraded to a suite (Cristal). Everything was fantastic. The room is the best I’ve stayed in. Definitely worth the extra for a special occasion. The bathroom was divine. I could have stayed in the shower all day! Breakfast was lovely. The staff were very helpful. Good location, especially if you’re going by train.

Very, very minor quibble, the lighting was lovely except for when you need to apply makeup. Could do with a brighter light option in the bathroom maybe or a makeup mirror with LED light surround?

Guy on reception (can't remember his name but about to turn 21 and impressive nails) was excellent warm and welcoming and took us up to our room. Just made us feel at home in a city we don't know. Same next day with the girl who checked us out. Really warm and friendly and it made a difference to us. Thank you

The open plan bathroom in the suite isn't ideal for a dad and his 16 year old daughter. But we did still like the layout and design etc despite having to work around the lack of privacy

Clean and tidy, lovely staff members always around keeping on top of the cleanliness. Lovely smell around the hotel The room we stayed in was beautiful, clean and peaceful. Lovely tea making facilities and toiletries in the bathroom. The shower was lovely and always hot, the towels nice and soft! The bed was so comfortable and the sheets were nice. We had dinner in the restaurant on the Saturday evening and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Always chatting and be very attentive, the drinks were fab too, especially the house red wine. The food was delicious.
