This ryokan is in a beautiful area of Hakone. We rented two rooms for our family of 4. We really enjoyed the in room balcony onsen with a beautiful view. The water is relaxing and leaves your skin feeling great. The kaseiki dinner was really great and so filling. Such a variety of food served by the amazing and gracious staff. The breakfast was good as well. They also provide Japanese clothing, slippers and thoughtful amenities. Overall it was a fantastic stay with attentive ryokan staff and a beautiful view. The location is great as you can access Gora, and the Hakone tram, cable car and railway quite easily. The open air museum is a must see. The ryokan has a shuttle service to pick you up from the train station as the Hakone area is very steep with narrow and winding roads. It's possible to walk from town to the ryokan, but be careful as the winding road is shared with passing cars and busses. The area is pretty and quaint. The land is terraced and the staircases bring you to quaint shops and cafes worth exploring a slower side of Japan compared to Tokyo.
That being said, the rooms need a little refresher or paint. Ceilings have some noticeable moisture damage and spotting.

The location and ryokan itself were incredible. We stayed in the Luxury Suite with Open Air bath and it was stunningly beautiful. All staff were lovely and very helpful and the dinner and breakfasts were delicious. It was such a treat having two separate private onsens (one in the bathroom and one on the deck). The onsen on the deck has a spectacular view across a valley. This was a special treat for our 10-year wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint!
There were a few spots where a bit more maintenance could be done: the couch in the room was worn through and there was a spot on the side balcony that was caving it. It was signed and we didn't go near it, but it would be better if it were fixed.

I had an unforgettable experience at this ryokan, and I can't say enough good things about it. First, the property itself is stunning. The traditional Japanese architecture and serene garden create a peaceful atmosphere that immediately transports you to a different world. The room I stayed in was spacious and beautifully appointed, with traditional tatami mats and a comfortable futon. The sliding doors opened up to a private terrace overlooking a breathtaking view. Now, let's talk about the Japanese dinner served in the room. It was an absolute feast for the senses. The presentation was a work of art, and every dish was bursting with flavors I had never experienced before. Dining in the comfort and privacy of my own room made it even more special. And then there's the private onsen on the terrace. Soaking in the hot spring water was a magical experience: It was incredibly relaxing and rejuvenating. But what truly made this stay exceptional was the wonderful staff, particularly the young lady named Aoi (I hope that her name is correct). Her sweetness and professionalism went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. She was attentive to every detail and made me feel like a valued guest. Overall, this ryokan exceeded all my expectations. It's a place where tradition and luxury meet, creating an unforgettable Japanese experience.

We loved the hotel’s location—it’s tucked away in a quiet area, offering a peaceful retreat. The private onsen was an absolute highlight, providing a relaxing and luxurious experience. A bonus was the shuttle service offered to guests, which made getting around even more convenient. The service was exceptional, and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed and cared for.
The only drawbacks we experienced were related to the age of the property. Some mold was visible in the rooms, which was concerning. Additionally, the dinner could use some improvement, as the course meals were slightly cold by the time they were served. However, the outstanding staff and exceptional service more than made up for these issues, leaving us with an overall positive impression.

Beautiful location and amazing staff. Wonderful presentation of dinner and breakfast.
Although part of our room, the balcony floorboards are almost rotten, and we feared we’d fall through when we walked on them. The partial wall to the right of the beautiful onsen was also rotten where it was supposed to be bolted to a rotted wooden brace; during high winds the night we stayed we heard constant banging from that partial wall banging against the rotted brace. In summary, the inside of the suite was pretty nice, but the much-lauded balcony and onsen was old and rotten.

We recently had the pleasure of spending two nights at Hakone Tokinoshizuku, staying in their top floor suite. Our stay was a delightful mix of luxury, exceptional service, and breathtaking scenery, though there were a few areas that could use some attention. Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the beauty of the location. Nestled in the serene landscape of Hakone, the surroundings provided a tranquil escape from our busy lives. The view from our suite was stunning, adding to the overall sense of relaxation. One of the highlights of our stay was undoubtedly the Onsen experience. The outdoor Onsen was a dream, offering a serene and soothing soak amidst nature. The indoor Onsen was equally impressive, providing a perfect retreat from the cooler evenings. Both Onsens were meticulously clean and beautifully maintained, offering a rejuvenating experience. Dining at Hakone Tokinoshizuku was an exquisite experience. The five-course (in-room) degustation dinner was a culinary journey, with each course beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. The chef’s attention to detail and the use of fresh, local ingredients were evident in every bite. We cannot praise the staff enough for their attentive service. Kai, in particular, went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. His warm hospitality and keen attention to detail made us feel truly special and well-cared for.
It’s important to mention that the overall condition of the property left something to be desired. The stairwell had noticeable mould, and the balcony of our apartment had several rotten floorboards, which was concerning. Additionally, the hallway carpet was old, stained, and uneven. While these issues did not significantly detract from the quality of our stay, they are worth noting for potential guests.

The service was excellent, we liked how they serve our breakfast and dinner. The room was spacious and clean with all amenities provided, they even separate the amenities bag for men and women. There was a private onsen in room, however the hotel share the public onsen with their sister hotel which is just next door. The hotel is located in a quite remote location, but they have courtesy bus service on request to and from the nearest tram station. Recommend to get your necessity before checking in because there is no shops and vending machine around the hotel area. Anyway, I would really recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning to stay in Hakone :) We loved it so much!!
The hotel itself is a bit worn and old. Need a little bit of refurbishment. I couldn’t see a USB charging spot in room. But it didn’t affect our wonderful stay.

The service at Hakone TokinoShizuku was outstanding. The one-night, two-meal experience was excellent, especially the dinner, which was a highlight of our stay. The private onsen in the room was serene and perfect for enjoying the views while soaking. Additionally, the pre-arrival service was very attentive—they patiently answered all our questions about transportation and luggage delivery, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable.
1. It would be even better if they could offer luggage storage services before check-in or after check-out in the future. 2. Some indoor walls showed signs of dampness, which could be improved. 3. The air conditioning unit was quite noisy.

A little hidden in the Hakone hills the hotel awaits you with wonderful views, big and really clean rooms, super polite, helpful and attentive staff and wonderful furnishings. We really enjoyed our outside onsen bath on the balcony, the meals were delicious and had a wonderful time and slept perfectly on the comfortable futons. The room was well equipped with a little sink, nice sitting options and a bar and free grean tea, and warm tea water always waiting for you. The bathroom was really nice, really spacious and you had everything you needed: even toothbrushes, face cleansers and lotions a towel warming rack as well as normal hotel ammenities like shower gel, shampoo etc. A big and warm thank you to the wonderful staff, who explained the room and the meals perfectly well and did everything so our stay was as fantastic as it was. ありがとうございました!

Both the evening meal and breakfast meal were served in the room as is usual with a Ryokan and it was all very high quality and freshly prepared. The staff clearly communicated well with each other as information about our onward plans were passed on meaning the next staff member we dealt with knew exactly what our plans were and were able to help. The lift from the train station to the hotel and then to the bus stop on checkout are nice additions that save having to deal with taxis which don't run late in to the evening and are often fully booked.
The traditional decoration throughout the room and the hotel are nicely done but the more modern features such as the sofas and seating within the room feel a little dated, but not enough to negatively impact the stay.
