We booked the superior king room which was at the very top of the property. Whilst this involved a lot of steep steps - so you need to be reasonably fit to manage particularly with your luggage - it was fabulous. We had a very private balcony area with gorgeous 270 degree views and could see the coast all the way around. The room itself was lovely too, really comfortable, spacious and very clean. I would strongly recommend this room over any of the others which were lower down and didn't have the same view - it is worth the extra. The owner Luis was on-site a lot and really friendly and helpful. We had read a lot of mixed reviews about Holbox but ended up really loving the island. It wasn't expensive like we had read - indeed there were restaurants in every price category. In early March it wasn't very crowded, and there was a lovely relaxed vibe everywhere. We went with realistic expectations about the flooding on some of the roads and Luis helped us find routes to the town/beach that avoided the worst of the flooding and it was always possible to walk around rather than through the mud/puddles.

The hot water in the shower ran through very quickly and was enough for 1 person. But it soon heated up again so this was no big deal. The roads immediately outside the property had some rubbish and suffered from flooding - but this improved a couple of blocks down so again it was no real issue. The quality of this accommodation made up for these few things.

Luis is the perfect host, checking in with everyone before arrival. The room (Star room) is great, plenty of space and a very comfy bed. Very comfortable place to stay, if not a bit far from the town square.

(This didn’t influence rating of Casa Sofia): just be advised that almost all streets around the accommodation are flooded, some with green water (sewage according to two locals). Plenty of raccoons around there. Hope that this gets solved, though some argued that there’s hidden interests to keep the roads in this condition (such as the taxi drivers). Town square still accessible by foot, but takes around 8 mins longer.

The room has been designed in a way that encorporates the island elements, such as shell decorations in a tasteful way. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and the outdoor space with the view of the island and a hammock to relax in completed the island experience for us. The host was very helpful and proactive in checking if we needed anything during our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this accommodation.

If you're a light sleeper, I would recommend bringing earplugs for this room as you could hear vehicles and birds from outside. This wasn't an issue for us.

If you decided to come to Holbox and went into all the trouble of getting there - just book Casa Sofia (one less thing to think about). It’s a fantastic place, a little walk from main activities and noise, a true paradise. Amazing staff, Luis (the owner) is really taking care of things, super friendly, kind and there to help or advice. Honestly, if I could - I would rate it 100/10 as it was one of the best stays for us in recent travels. Look no further and book the place.

Truly nothing

This was one of the best places we stayed at during our trip to the Yucatan Peninsula! Do yourself a favor and stay at the top floor, you'll have sea views all over from your personal balcony with a hammock. The upper floor being a palapa adds to the island vibes. The bed is huge and very comfy. We appreciated the fridge and kitchen utensils. Cute bathroom, with a shell as showerhead. Water pressure was good, I think it was possible to have a hot shower, but we've only showered cold during our stay. Luis is super friendly and helped us with arranging a whale sharks tour and the taxi to the ferry after check out. Would definitely recommend!!!

Very well thought out room, designed beautifully with large bed facing lovely terrace. Great views ! Location is great for getting to the beach, restaurants and ferry...all easy walking distance. It was quiet too, and the bed is very comfy so got a good night's rest. Complimentary coffee is great, and we made use of the small fridge to make our own breakfasts. Owners are helpful and very friendly. It's very clean too! Great Aircon and room fan. Can recommend.

Not anything really, a bit pricey but this is reflective of Holbox I believe. Would have liked a broom/brush for us in the room so we could sweep terrace of sand. The cleaner did this daily, but we would often we back and forth from the beach so we were often bringing sand in alot.

Beautiful accommodation in a quiet place! Spacious rooms decorated in boho style, the smallest detail chosen with care. You can feel like at home. We traveled for over two weeks around the peninsula and this was one of the best places we slept! Large room with spacious windows, balcony, large bed and equipped kitchen. Very large bathroom with a beautiful shower and space for clothes. While on vacation, you don't need anything else. Well, and on top of that, the host of Casa Sofia, is amazing helpful person. He answered all our question, gave super advice, helped with everything. He created a wonderful atmosphere in this place!

The hotel has a really lovely island vibe. We loved the Caribbean decor, and it felt in keeping with Holbox. A short walk into the main area/beach was easily done and the owners were helpful and always willing to help us.

Some of the rooms are not very private, as other rooms have to walk past the room to get to their room (I think that was just our room- the star room), which wasn’t a huge problem, but something to be aware of if you like your privacy. There are no bed side lights which is a little annoying, but otherwise it is a really lovely place to stay in Holbox.

Even though it's on the outskirts of Holbox it's within easy walking or cycling distance to the main beaches. The host was very friendly and helpful and answered all our questions quickly. The apartment itself was amazing - you have the top floor all to yourself and a balcony with an amazing view looking out over the island. It's a great size and has everything you need. Would definitely stay here again :)

I would definitely bring beach shoes if it's been raining as the roads are sand so there can be some massive puddles around the property! But our host did warn us of this before getting there which was very helpful.

I had such a lovely stay at Luis' place. The room was spacious, light and beautifully decorated. It's a 10 minute walk to the beach and town centre. Luis was very helpful and friendly and was giving me plenty of café and restaurant recommendations.

This is not the property's fault, but the streets were flooded during my stay (December 2023). So be prepared to walk through some puddles on the way to town or the beach. Luis did warn me of this before getting there, which was very helpful.
