The set breakfast was great, and Japanese style, slightly different each day. The restaurant kindly gave us a vegetarian version after the first day when we realised how much of the breakfast contained seafood of some kind, as one of us is vegetarian. We didnt get the dinner, but if it was anything like the breakfast it would be pretty good. We got given robes (yukatas) to wear which we used to go to and from the onsen. The onsen was small but nice (no cold pool though, only two hot), and really welcome after a day’s hike up and down Mt Misen. Really recommend going up to Mt Misen if you like spectacular panoramic views. You can take the ropeway if you dont like hiking. Would recommend walking up Otomo Course and down Momijidani so as to avoid the crowds, if you are a hiker. There are other hikes on the island but unfortunately we didnt have time. Room was a good size, and being able to open the windows a bonus. There were hooks to hang towels and robes, a tiny clothes airer, even two fold up chairs. We didnt discover the in-room safe until too late. We got given complementary japanese pastries or biscuits each day, and cold water in a covered jug. Towels were changed every day, but we didnt use the fresh ones as it seemed a waste to launder towels after just one day (we were there for 2 nights). Dont do what we did and walk from the ferry pier to the hotel, unless you dont mind the wheels of your suitcases almost rattleling off on the rough stones on the walkways and narrow roads, it would ok with backpacks. The hotel provides a shuttle service (you can ring them for a pickup) which we used on check out.

Our bathroom smelt strongly of mould, probably because the bath fixture was not sealed to the walls so it would be damp and mouldy there when water runs down the side while showering. This is something we have found in common with a number of other hotels in Japan with prefab plastic bathrooms. Otherwise the room was clean and well purposed, if a bit dated.

We decided to stay overnight in Miyajima and it was one of the best experiences we had in our trip. Staff is really kind and professional. We had a twin room with extra bed and it was big, clean and perfectly equipped. Nice touches like the complimentary momiji manju and the yukata you get to choose at check-in. Breakfast was good, but dinner was the best we had during our stay in Japan. We went for the kaiseki-style and we absolutely recommend it (superb sashimi and chestnut ice cream). Definitely try the outdoor section of the onsen, as well as relaxing on the outside food bath after a day walking through the island. This ryokan caters mainly to Japanese clients, so it feels less touristy and more like the real thing. It's not cheap, but nothing is in Miyajima, and in our opinion, it was worth every penny.

Nothing, really. Everything was good.

We thought this Ryokan was perfectly located in Miyajima- easy to walk from the ferry but yet a bit up the hill and removed from the crowds. The ryokan had a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our room , due to what was available at time of booking, was not traditional Japanese but we found it quite comfortable and of good size. It had the option of turning on jazz background music which we liked! We really enjoyed our Ryokan meals in Japan and Kikunoya did not disappoint. We had wonderful meals with friendly service. Meals here seemed to perhaps give a bit of a nod to western tastes and coffee was available in the morning! They also had a nice onsen with outdoor area ( no view) which again is an important part of the overall experience. We recommend this hotel .

This was truly a 10/10 property. I had a pleasant memory of visiting the island 10 years ago and was looking forward to it this time as well. Kikunoya made it a memorable experience 1. Staff - the staff was extremely attentive. They had passion for their job and took a vested interest in making sure we had a pleasant day. The nice handwritten notes at dinner, explanation of the dishes, helping us understand how to eat the food or when it was ready to eat, refilling water, miso soup were great. It is clear to understand that the staff here have a great attitude. It was the best hotel experience that I have had anywhere in the world 2. The hotel is very close to Itsukushima Shrine, which was very nice. We were able to visit it before the first set of tourists arrived on the ferry 3. Great amenities- convenient shuttle service, great hot springs I would definitely visit again. Thanks again Kikunoya for making this a pleasant honeymoon!

Breakfast was delicious with all types of food to try. If you are not into Japanese food then I don't think the dinner will be worth the extra price. When you check in they ask you your preferred breakfast time (between 7 am and 9 am). The service is what makes this place special. They picked up our luggage from the ferry terminal (the help desk at the ferry terminal can call the hotel for you) and dropped off our luggage before we left. Staff showed us to our room personally which was nice. Location is at the top of a not very steep hill incredibly close to Itsukushima Jinja. All the yukatas are different so it was fun to pick one out at check-in. Included onsen had a nice locker room setup with storage for your valuables.

Hotel felt dated in terms of appearance. There is not much to look at with the outdoor onsen - just open at the top. The footbath is nothing special - just some lukewarm water next to the road with a small screen.

The attitude and attention to detail really impressed me and my family. We are touched by the ability of Bipanal and Dipa to speak English and explain the food to us. We are also glad our luggage was not lost after we could not meet the driver at the pier at 12 noon. We are very grateful he drove the luggage back to the hotel. The food, we must say, was superb.

The kimono and yutaka could have been better explained. I think we were supposed to wear them for dinner at the restaurant but we didn't understand until we saw everyone was wearing the kimonos and yutaka.

They provided yukata for us, and the onsen had both inside and outside areas and allowed small tattoos which was nice. They also provided a traditional Japanese kaiseki breakfast & dinner. Definitely save room for both of these, it was a lot of food! The location was really good, walkable to Itsukashima shrine and we were able to walk to the beach at sunrise very easily to see it. The hotel provided a free shuttle service from the port which really helped with the bags.

The interior decor is on the older side despite the modern exterior of the building.

I had one of my best travel experiences here at Kikunoya! The place is a traditional inn where you can enjoy a Japanese style tatami floored room, they provide yukatas and slippers for you, and you can use the outdoor or indoor onsen too. Everything is provided for this such as shower oils and creams. The receptionists were really friendly and we had a great conversation with them in Japanese (but don't worry, they can explain everything you need in English). There is also an outdoor foot bath combined with a cafe menu, the whole atmosphere is pretty, clean, emphasizing nature and traditional designs. Breakfast was also traditional style with many small dishes, and they provided an English explanation of everything and how to eat it properly. The location is a little bit uphill but close to the center (it's a small island after all). The rooms were spacious with a tea table and built in closets next to our futons. If you're thinking of making a Miyajima day trip, I definitely recommend staying for at least one night just for the ryokan experience.

The hotel staff were super polite and accommodating. We felt welcome and valued. Onsen was really nice and we had full guidance about using the facilities from our friendly host. Dinner was exceptional and relaxing. Many guests came to dinner in the yukatas provided by the hotel, but some opted to change back to ordinary clothes, both ways were totally acceptable.

We had some stress finding the hotel, as the access is down a very narrow street. Perhaps it's easier to come by taxi or public transport. However, the hotel provides a complimentary parking, which is just across the road.

Great experience overall. They have a shuttle that brings you to and from the ferry terminal. The hotel is situated just behind the Itsukushima Shrine, giving you the opportunity to go there early in the morning before the crowds arrive. The room was comfortable, they have the choice of western-style or Japanese-style rooms. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. They catered attentively to our gluten-free needs.

Only thing is that there was music outside at 7am each morning, I assume coming from the temple. Otherwise the room and area are very silent and we slept very comfortably.
