Actually, the main asset of this hotel is its location. Public transport is nearby and easy: tram stop Ocean Terminal is just nextdoor. We came directly from the airport by tram, no changes at all. Several bus lines serving Edinburgh city center have a stop on the other side of the hotel. Right nextdoor as well. We came late home from the Tattoo and could easily get back to the hotel by tram, even very late. Otherwise there's another bus stop served by night bus a stroll away. The parking lot looks nice. 10 Pounds a day. The room was large enough and clean. Excellent bed / sheets. AC worked well. Good TV set / remote / channels. Other advantage: this place is rather easy to reach by car, compared with Edinburgh center which can get very busy and congested. Holiday Inn is located outside of the "chaos" and public transport does the rest!
Breakfast included but the dining room is often crowed. In my opinion (I might be wrong) the architects had not planned this dining room for included breakfast). The staff were running and had a hard time coping with this situation. As a result, a few people were standing and waiting for some dishes to be re-filled. Still breakfast was fine. No reason to cancel your booking for this! I only found a small detail like the floor of the bath room (floor had not been mopped, the water drops had only dried out). Toilet flushing mechanism to be corrected. Pricy: Edinburgh has become a very touristic spot and the price for accommodation has become exaggerated. Not only Hoilday Inn. Too expensive in my opinion.

The bed was very comfortable. The room was cleaned very well. The tea and coffee facilities were great. The location was good, there were shops and restaurants near.
The shower curtain came off when I drew it. The whole of the toilet/ shower floor was covered in water after a shower. Had nothing to dry it with. The breakfast was days old. The sausages were hard. The hash browns were soggy the 1st morning then cooked again the 2nd morning and the edges were rock hard. The baps were stale. We stayed in a holiday inn express else where this year. It was cheaper but the standards were a lot better.

Although a little far from the center, the hotel is located next to both the tram and bus stops, right near the cruise terminal and all main Edinburgh's attractions can easily be reached in a short time. The staff was kind and helpful, helping us to resolve even small problems during our stay. The breakfast was rich and varied, with genuine flavors and a very wide choice.
In our room there wasn't a toilet brush which should be essential in every bathroom, but that might have been just an oversight as we do not know about the other rooms' bathrooms.

The location is excellent, being within a couple of minutes walk from the Tram and bus stops for access to central Edinburgh. The Royal Yacht Britannia is very close, and well worth a visit. Parking is available onsite for £10 per 24 hours. Rooms are small but comfortable. There is a restaurant and bar. Breakfast is buffet style with a good selection. The evening menu is what I would describe as pub grub. Food quality was good and reasonably priced for a hotel. The best thing about the hotel were the staff. There were always staff available and they went out of their way to help.
The only slightly negative point about the room is the lack of storage space. There is a small wardrode with hangers but no drawer space. You need to be prepared to live out of your suitcase.

Room was comfortable, clean and had all basic amenities you need. As a Coeliac, I have to eat gluten free and was really pleased to see a separate toaster, gluten free bread, porridge and cornflakes. I was also extremely happy that the kind Dining and Kitchen staff carried out my request to make me scrambled egg in the kitchen (this is better for me as it avoids any risk of gluten contamination from the buffet - that can be caused by other guests accidental using serving implements that have been supplied to pick up other gluten containing products).
My friend, who was staying in a different room (240) to my friend and I, said that she could hear what sounded like a washing machine working throughout the night. Could have been something else but maybe the hotel staff could check this out and relocate the Laundry Room if this is the case.

It's a great wee place, we love the staff - especially the night staff - and love the fact that it's dog friendly. The location for us was perfect - a great walk into town with the dogs - and we love the room design. We had a really enjoyable stay especially with the breakfast options and allowing dogs.
There were a couple of issues checking in as it hadn't shown that we had paid, even though I thankfully had the email confirmation to prove it - our room card didn't work on the last night - it's been nice to have veggie / vegan sausage options ready rather than have to wait.

Location was great for britania visit and foodhall etc. A visit to McChans chinese was good. Room was clean. Comfy bed. Staff were amazing and helpful. There is a large tv in the bar so we watched the football with a beer or two. Parking was good although there was a fee of 20.00 for 2 nights. Breakfast was ok but avoid busy times. Would definitely return to this hotel.
We were a group of 4 and we all felt that smokers should not be allowed to smoke right outside the entrance and felt there should be a smokers hub placed away from the doors. The smoke was unpleasant.

Room adequate - small but everything we needed for a short stay was there. Breakfast had variety and there were plenty of staff to wipe tables and fill eggs, sausages etc. Most staff members were pleasant and helpful. One female staff member just stared at her screen and did not welcome us to Holiday Inn. Would have liked her to at least look at us when she was booking us in. We asked for room number and were told that it was not spoken (fair enough but she was very abrupt) .
I did not like the parking machine. I tried twice to put in details and it timed me out each time. Last time we paid at counter and it was much better. Lovely staff member, Patricia, came and helped me in the end. Frustrating exercise.

Holiday Inn Express hotels are generally good quality budget hotels, though at £150 a night, this stretches the understanding of "budget" a little. Much to like about this hotel; exceptionally friendly and helpful staff; warm welcome at check-in, great service for breakfast in the restaurant. Rooms on the small side, but well equipped with pleasing interior decor. Several USB sockets for charging devices including by the bedside. Functional bathroom with cubicle shower, again on the small side, but with lashings of hot water and good temperature control in the shower. Extremely comfortable king-size bed and good sound insulation. Free Wi-Fi adequate for web surfing and e mails though limited bandwidth rules out streaming. First-class buffet cooked breakfast.
Only one small lift that didn't seem to be able to be signalled up or down meaning when calling the lift from the top floor, people who had summoned the lift to go down on lower floors were carried up first meaning the lift was sometimes full by the time it got to the top. Irritating, but didn't impact on the overall enjoyment of the stay.

I was in the atrium dining area very early and was able to make myself tea and sit on comfortable sofa/chairs in peace and quiet. The staff were very professional all round. The lift was quick. The breakfast had a very good choice ( my travelling companion is celiac and had no problem). Unfortunately I found the lovely scrambled eggs inedible as way too salty but that's my palate. I know the Scots take a lot more salt, I eat almost none. When the yogurt ran down it was immediately topped up. You are a hundred times better than the Sheraton where we went next. The decor and ground floor chairs and layout is excellent. They called us a cab and it came very promptly
Too much salt in eggs but I had plenty of other things to eat. We could have done with a few more milk sachets for our teas in the room - but I bought a pint.
