It was incredible! Full of history and luxury all in one. The rooms were beautiful and luxe, the dinner in the dungeon was immaculate and the wait staff in the dungeon area were exceptional. The grounds surrounding the castle were beautiful to explore as well!

The staff withinin the castle (reception/bar staff) were not very welcoming or helpful and seemed preoccupied with the wedding preparation for the following day that we were not told about before booking our stay. We were unable to access many of the common areas within the castle as they were occupied with wedding prep or decorations etc. We were extremely disappointed we couldn’t see or enjoy the library because of this. I believe we should have been told about the function and how it would impact our stay as we paid full price

Breakfast very good. Dinner also very good, however wait times for food and pre dinner drinks very disappointing.

Unable to go to bar for pre-dinner drinks, we were asked to sit in lounge area where we would be provided with menus and order drinks from a staff member. We waited 40 minutes for a drink. We waited another 30 minutes for our table, basically over an hour later than the time we booked our table. Totally unacceptable. There were American visitors also in the lounge, some with very well behaved children also sitting waiting for over half an hour to be served drinks, this is dreadful service particularly when you’re with hungry young children, the American visitors were not happy about these service levels and I cannot blame them. That castle is beautiful and the food very good, breakfast service and food was excellent, shame about the evening experience.

The hotel is an excellent combination between a historical building and spa service. It is a beautiful place to go and disconnect for a weekend near Edinburgh. The orangery restaurant has an excellent selection of food and drink; if they know in advance, they adapt to your food requirements. The spa is small but offers a good range of offers. Finally the have a hidden gem, the library if you have time try to take tea or a drink there!!!!

The hotel has three walking trails around the property that looks nice and easy on the paper map offered in the reception. However, there is only one sign at the beginning of the path, so you can get loss quickly, mainly because the GPS signal is weak in the area. So if you plan to go for a walk, go during day time and with plenty of time.

breakfast was excellent. Views and asthetics of the common areas are fantastic.

Other meals not so great. window seals in orangery were dirty in an otherwise beautiful setting (3 days straight so I don't think it was a single oversite, it was too bad for an otherwise fantastic room), the waitstaff was a little strange, sort of starring at us while eating. Some were very nice, others a little odd (to put it nicely). Internet service is a joke. They blame the thick walls, yet they don't even have internet available in the main eating rooms, there is "private" internet though, with plenty of bars, so obviously the "thick wall" is not an issue for the employee wi-fi. Very frustrating and I can't imagine in 2023 that anyone would be ok with that.

Communication with staff members was good as we extended our stay for one night and wanted to keep the same room. The Themed Room itself was gorgeous, with views, characteristic furnishings, exposed stone walls, and a modern bathroom. The castle is fun to explore, and the Spa exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was very good, with a beautiful setting and a variety of options. The grounds are lovely and proximity to Rosslyn Chapel is convenient.

The 4-poster bed and the pull-out sofa bed were both very uncomfortable, unfortunately. Coffee was not replenished for a 2nd night. While the Orangery restaurant surprised us with a wide variety of tapas-like food from different cuisines, all of them delicious, the more formal Dungeon served the 5-course menu only. Some of the dishes on that menu were quite underwhelming, and 2 of the courses were desserts. One dessert would be plenty as they were all well-executed. Yet, the starters were boring, and the selection offered no soup. Lastly, they were informed of our special date, a birthday...no freebies that would be a notch above, were offered.

Excellent vegetarian breakfast, beautifully cooked. Spacious room, with plenty of cupboard/drawer space. Loved the original shutters, which completely shut out all light. Loved that the conversion to a hotel is in keeping with the original building. Often the conversion of similar buildings results in a more modern section, but that didn’t apply here. Cleaning staff seemed excellent.

Unable to put out lights from the bed. No suitable phone charging point/socket in reach of the bed, although I appreciate this is a very old castle, and lighting and electrics must be difficult. Toilet very low although good for my grandson! I stayed with my 6-yr old grandchild but they were not able to use the dining room or spa, which I hadn’t appreciated before booking.

Tasty and freshly prepared items, some on request. Lots of choice. Full Scottish cooked breakfast and continental. Liked eating in Orangery restaurant with fantastic views of grounds. Part served, part self serve. Staff polite and all areas clean. Table ready for us and the breakfast was available for almost 3 hours. Chose Dalhousie Castle as the area was suitable for visiting a friend nearby. Price was also attractive for a treat stay for my husband and I compared to more central Edinburgh hotels. Pleased with the communications before, during and after leaving Dalhousie. The entire team throughout our stay were helpful, courteous and helpful. The entire environment was as we had hoped, traditional in style and with castle decor and furniture. Our allocated room was superb with fantastic views of castle grounds from two huge sash windows. Able to be opened for some freah air. Comfortable heating setting and room not overwhelmed with heat. Bed large with draped curtains for style and luxurious mattress and pillows. Extra dressing gowns, hairdryer with tea and coffee facilities in the room. Fresh water. Castle grounds exceptional and extensive. Can walk throughout or stay nearer castle where we saw Archery and Falconry activities being displayed by staff with guests. Able to explore the entire castle environment and enjoyed the displays of the castle's history in the tapestries, Scottish royal history and the beauty of the libary. Enjoyed our drinks in the Alexander lounge and could also have drinks in the library if preferred. Departure time 11am which could be extended on request. Pleased we were able to park in disabled parking space and it is worth a mention that the castle has a lot of stairs for those with mobility issues. I walk with a stick and managed to navigate through the castle. We did mention this on booking and were given one of the most accessible rooms available however this would not be suitable for someone in a wheelchair.

Tea could have been warmer.

Chose this place to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. Wanted a place close to Edinburgh. The castle environment was special, we stayed in the "four post bed" room between the second and third floors. The room was larger than expected, bathroom and shower were great, bed very comfortable. And the breakfast each morning was really good in a beautiful sunroom setting. We ate dinner in the dungeon restaurant one evening and that was exceptional. Walked the grounds and trail along the creek. Had a wonderful stay.

The stay in the actual castle was amazing. The breakfast was top notch and the food overall was of high quality and decent portion sizes. The spa facilities were ok and the stone massage was so relaxing. The fact that you could use the spa facilities everyday of your stay for 90 minutes was a great idea. The grounds the castle is situated in are spectacular, secluded and quiet. Even though the nearest villages are only a mile away it definitely felt like you were getting away from it all

Our first nights stay in the lodge was not so good. It felt like you weren't part of the castle experience. No room service and no phone to communicate with the castle itself. I'm glad i upgraded to the castle accommodation for the remaiming 3 nights of our stay. Both of the steam rooms weren't working for our entire 4 night stay, which was very disappointing. We struggled with booking meal times as well. We weren't told about doing this beforehand on the website at all. The website needs to state that if you're staying in the lodges that your facilities are limited. Apart from these issues the stay was very good and I would thoroughly recommend staying there

We loved everything! The minute we got there we were greeted. The concierge went to our car and got all of our luggage and took it to the room. The inside is beautiful and the bar area is beautiful. We did not stay in the castle but in their private lodge that is over a bridge. The rooms were fabulous and they had a large porch surrounded by forest. Beautiful! For dinner we went to the restaurant in the dungeon. Absolutely amazing. The ambience was unbelievable and the food was fantastic. My sister is celiac and the accommodated us perfectly. Their breakfast was amazing in a bright sunny room. THE BEST PART OF THE HOTEL--The Falconry program. We were blown away with the skill and knowledge Barry showed. He was amazing. He even started a bit early to accommodate us. It was a highlight of our trip. If you can go do this event, you won't regret it.
