We had booked a "cell" room. The furnishings were excellent. The bathroom was large and well-equipped. Personally, I would have preferred a walk-in shower instead of a bathtub, but that's a matter of taste. The bed was very comfortable. We did not book breakfast as I found the price to be inappropriate. In addition to a quite high flat rate per person, an extra charge was applied for any hot dishes (such as scrambled eggs, etc.).Otherwise, the staff was very nice and accommodating.
Unfortunately, I wasn't aware that this historic building apparently doesn't have windows that can be opened. As a result, ventilation is limited, and fresh air at night can only be accessed through the room door. After showering, the entire room has very high humidity, which isn't managed well by the air conditioning. Personally, I found the stay in the cell room quite amusing, but I would prefer a longer stay in a room with windows that can be opened. Additionally, it's important to note that the cell rooms open directly onto the hallway, meaning any noise from the hallway can be heard clearly. This didn't particularly bother us and didn't spoil our stay, but it's good to be aware of.

Location of hotel is excellent as is in the heart of Oxford city. The hotel is lovely and staying in an old converted prison works perfectly as has that quirky touch. We upgraded our room which was lovely and the walk in shower was huge. The downstairs bar has a great selection of drinks and staff are very friendly. Breakfast was lovely with a good choice.
Unfortunately the air conditioning in our room did not work so the room was uncomfortably warm on the first night - I mentioned it to reception and they were great as when we returned to our room after a day out the next afternoon they had plugged in a nice portable air conditioner which did the job.

Signature suite was quirky and different and hotel location was excellent in relation to the access to the city centre, very good parking (and thankfully I pre booked before arrival). Loads of local places for breakfast within about 5-10 minutes walk from the Hotel.
Not so fussed on the shower (Signature suite) felt like I was showering in the back street at night (a very-very large shower) which was too dark (with only one small red, green and amber spot ceiling lights) and a single overhead rain type shower head in the middle. (definitely room for maybe 6 more people in the shower with head torches etc.) Large bath though, which the Wife enjoyed. Onsite breakfast is too expensive (especially if you are only a tea and croissant person). (And no other options other than to head for town-centre).

Location is excellent! We used Just Park rather than Malmaison as there was a space a couple of minutes walk and a lot cheaper to park. The room was as expected and I loved the prison cell feel - although much better than the original use! The bathroom was gorgeous. The hand wash smelled delicious! All toiletries were provided and lovely. We didn't use the bath tub but it looked fab. Loads of room, plenty of storage. We didn't have breakfast there or visit the bar. Tea and coffee supplied with little pots of milk so that was ok. We saw the old original cell downstairs. We were on floor 5 but there are 2 lifts so no issues there. I was so happy to stay there for my birthday - a great place.
The staff were ok, not super friendly but helpful enough. We tried to turn the radiator off in the room but I woke up in the night as I was too hot and the radiator was really hot so that disturbed me. Obviously the windows can't be opened which is the point but that needs to be considered. It must be really stuffy in the warmer weather - maybe? There are a couple of large panels overhead - extractor fan or air con, not sure, but they were quite loud. It did go off at night thankfully but started up at 6.15 so it woke up us. The room is a bit shabby now so could do with a refresh. Still a great experience though with the cell room. I wouldn't bother for a normal room at that cost though.

We had great evening at hotel bar and restaurant delicious food and friendly staff. Breakfast didn't disappointed either, buffet full of goodies and delicious coffee. We also need to mention very comfortable bed. We didn't wanted to get up lol. We all have to congratulate the person who came up with this brilliant idea to turn this prison into hotel and still keep some features of this iconic building- amazing job! Also located in the city center, it is easily accessible to all of Oxford's attractions.
We felt little bit disappointed that car park wasn't included in the price of staying and it's also quite expensive.

We very much loved our stay here, the food (both dinner and breakfast) was absolutely delicious. Every member of staff we spoke with was fabulous and went above and beyond for us nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be revisiting in the future. Also having such easy access to the shopping centre with just a 2 minute walk was an exceptional bonus here! Extremely clean and well laid out. Valet parking was very well run and great for a busy city Hotel! A credit to Oxford!
Only thing we felt was missing was a small fridge in the room - would of been very useful. However not the end of the world.

The property was absolutely amazing, it is stunning. The rooms have been done up so well and we was very impressed We had breakfast and it was so yummy. The hotel is in a prime location for shops and restaurants
There was a couple of things that we was not happy about, the pillows was far to soft, we had use one of the bed cushions underneath to perk them up alittle bit, We had a roll top bath but no bubble bath, i think this little touch would have been a nice touch. Valet parking for £35 is absolutely ridiculous! Just for the hotel to hold the keys over night I think £20 would have been fine. As we park the car our selfs anyway. We also stayed because it was our anniversary, and we got given a voucher for free Prosecco, we thought of thats lovely, when we got to the room we noticed it was x1 voucher?? When there is two of us, So this felt alittle half hearted.

From the moment I saw the hotel I knew that everything would be unique and perfect and it was. From the concierge taking the keys and parking the car to the check in and out was great. Loved the quirkiness of the place and its location is just marvellous.
You couldn’t fault the hotel (apart from I’d like the Fererro Roche to be replaced after we’d eaten the first nights supply) but just one little niggle. The journey from the South took 4 hours instead of 1.5 and although most of that was down to the A34 (awful road) we weren’t advised that you can’t actually get to the hotel as the road closed just prior to reaching the centre and will be for a year!!! It wouldn’t be difficult to include that in an email when liaising with guests. So the route we had to take was to head back to the A34, head to Banbury and come in from the North. Oh and to make matters worse the hotel doesn’t seem to have any signage on the road indicating the cobbled road in. Thankfully when we arrived and settled in we forgot all the drama it caused….

Definitely catches the eye on arrival, the decor is amazing, really compliments the hotel. Met by a man with a flap cap who parked our car, very friendly, professional and accommodating. Lucy checked us in and as we talked about the hotel she had good knowledge and recommendations. The cell was just how we expected it, we have been waiting to visit for a while and finally made it for our anniversary. The little extras were great, water, coffee, tea and biscuits facilities complimentary with the room. We paid an extra £20 for the free standing bath, which was a lovely feature in the bathroom. Bed was comfortable, clean. Love the fact we didn’t have to check out till 11, which gave us a great time to get up and ready and out. We paid £35 to park on the premises but very worth it so we knew where our car was and could explore the wonderful Oxford. Loads to do, the prison tour offers a 20% discount when you stay, lots of lovely places to eat, drink and sites to visit.
The wow of the hotel. The arrival meet. The decor on entry. The pink lighting is great. The cell experience is just so cleverly done, still kept all the old features made modern with lighting and used the cells well to create a bedroom and bathroom.

An impressive building of historical significance which has been sympathetically converted to an hotel. The valet parking was very convenient, the room was very clean and comfortable, particularly the bed! The location was fantastic close to the main hub of Oxford. Also the castle next door was discounted for residents and the guided tour was superb - well worth a visit.
The lighting in the room was not adequate- it was too dark. The bathroom lighting was better but it was still difficult to shave or do make up. The bathroom desperately needed a magnifying mirror. There was a lack of drawers. Parking was expensive and an additional cost. It should have been heavily discounted for guests staying more than 2 nights.
