The Parsonage was a beautiful old building, welcoming entrance hall, tastefully decorated and modernised. We stopped in room 5, in the original part of the Hotel. The room was a good size, with a comfortable bed, smart TV, biscuits, tea, coffee and Elmis hair & body wash. Breakfast was self service, full english and/or continental. It was a good breakfast. Spa and pool facilities were just enough and spa staff were very friendly. We spent a lovely few hours in there. I would definitely stop in the hotel again. I would highly recommend it. Great location, beautiful building and surroundings, spa & pool worth a visit. A comfy bed and a good breakfast!
The room was very hot, luckily we could open the windows. Being just off reception meant that we could hear other guests in the lounge area and woke up at times due to noise. Shower was adequate but not overly powerful. We also ate at the Fat Abbott. Food was fine but I wouldn’t eat there again, it was slightly disappointing. Lacked in atmosphere, young inexperienced staff. However, food was reasonably priced, just a typical pub rather than gastro-pub - similar to a beef eater.

Lovely surroundings, spa facilities were good .
We stayed for two nights and we booked in at the Fat Abbott for our evening meals, although we had book our tables on both nights before 8pm they didn't on both nights have the full menus available...on the second night it wasn't a case of a hard choice of what to have but a case of this is all we have left ...takevit or leave it..unbelievable given the fact that it is a very limited menu to begin with! It was quite embarrassing watching other guests arrive to be told such and such wasn't available! Both nights running they had "sold out" of pork chops!!! Goodness me how can you run out of pork chops..the same with the sea bass!!! And it was only just gone 8pm.,absolutely shocking stock management.. Lovely hotel but do yourself a favor an eat somewhere else..

Breakfast was perfect, loved the spa with its four Sauna/Steam rooms, room was lovely. Staff were really friendly and helpful - went over and above to help. The ambience of the place was just what we were looking for. Easy parking, Bus outside that takes you to York Centre and the Outlet if you don't fancy driving in. We were really happy with this choice of hotel and would definitely return.
Room was cold around 10pm with no controls to increase the heating (we were in the Coach House which was separate from the main building). We were even cold in bed and needed extra blankets - there was only one blanket available and that was stained. We did mention this to reception the next day and they were very apologetic and said if we had informed them, they would have got the night porters to sort this out.

Lovely staff. Excellent breakfasts and good ‘pun grub’ at the Fat Abbott. The interesting layout and well presented public spaces of the hotel are obviously aimed at the wedding / conference sector. That said, as independent travellers we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
With the entrance to the property being on a bend, on safety grounds better signage / lighting would not come amiss. The guests bar is due a stock check. There was no brandy or malt whisky available nor any ice for gin and tonics.

Gary at the spa was the first Genuine friendly face we saw, and we had been there couple of hours by then. spa facilities were very good.
We arrived there early , just after 12.00. The Reception we got from the staff was not good at all. Mr White shirt looked and acted like the weight of the world was on his shoulders and Mrs. Black dress had the same none welcoming attitude, although she did become more friendly after 20 seconds or so! Not the welcome you want at all from a 4 star place.

We been a fem times every year for 4 yrs and love it and travel on the bus to York and love the pool and facilities we had a problem with our shower but the lady who sorted it was amazing and couldn’t thank her enough. Nothing was a problem.
Its sad to say say the only thing that lets it down is the customer service in the fat abbot it seemed like an effort to serve us and we all work in retail and found it sad to say but not interested in being pleasant or not even a smile from the manager to the staff but we will return but will maybe give the abbot a miss.

We've stayed here several times over the past four or five years and had cause to give very good revues each time. This time we could only stay for one night due to booking later than usual. As before, we loved it. An excellent well-run hotel, spotless rooms, comfy beds, excellent breakfast and, for us, the jewel in the crown is the Spa. Even with one of the steam rooms temporarily out of action, we had a fabulous time in the warm pool, huge hot Jacuzzi, the salt-steam room and the sauna.
The only issues we have had here are, the difficulty of getting an evening meal in the Fat Abbott if not booked well in advance and the fairly hit-and-miss Wifi signal.

Easy check in and checkout. The room was clean and comfortable. The spa facilities were nice and relaxing and offered a few different things to try. The breakfast was nice and gave lots of options. We arrived to a kind gesture of a birthday card for my girlfriend in the room
The only thing that was slightly strange was having to walk through a function room filled with a wedding party, in order to get to and from the room and the entrance of the hotel. This was because we stayed in ‘the lodge’ which was linked to the main building. I’m sure this would not likely happen every day but still felt slightly awkward

This is our second stay at the Parsonage, it's great value for money. The spa facilities are great, staff are very friendly and polite, breakfast was excellent, especially the sausages! Rooms are spacious, shower very good. Fan, iron and ironing board all provided in the rooms. The pub on site is nice.
The hotel and it's facilities are a little dated and shabby in places, however I did notice improvements had been made since our previous visit so hopefully they continue. Mattress was well used they could probably do with being replaced. Access to bottled water or a machine would have also been nice within the rooms or corridors. Better lighting around the mirror in the room would be good as it wasn't great for doing make up, and a full length mirror would be a useful addition to the rooms. None of this would stop us coming back, it would just make the hotel even better.

There seemed to be a problem with my booking as I had asked for a triple room but we were given a double room, I let the staff know as the single bed was for my 2 year old son and they got us a cot very quickly. Also, because the booking only came to them for 2 people, there wasn't an extra breakfast, so I was expecting to pay extra, but they said he could eat for no extra charge. Overall, I was very happy with how it was handled. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anyone staying in that area of York. Considering how hot it was that day, the room was a very comfortable temperature even though I didn't notice any air conditioning.
