Rooms are all named after places or venues in Manchester. I stayed in the room called Castlefield. Location - It is just a 3-minute walk to Selfridges and the Exchange Square area. Room - Simple and cosy for a short stay. Was impressed by the bathroom which actually works, especially the walk-in shower with overhead showerhead that gives stable volume and temperature (and without water leakage!). Note that other than shampoo, conditiner and body wash, no toiletries e.g. toothbrush or comb were provided. TV is a smart one as well, equipped with common video streaming apps such as Youtube and Prime. Breakfast - Breakfast was served in the sister hotel The Mitre, which was a simple buffet-style continental breakfast. Not grand cuisine but certainly a satisfactory one when compared to those which serve a banana and a cup of coffee only.

Hairdryer - There was no hairdryer in the room. Noise - Not a problem for me but people should be aware that the hotel is at a rather busy junction (and the rooms are either on the first floor or second floor) so traffic noise is inevitable even late into the night. Bed - The bed and bedding are not the most comfy, so do not expect to have a perfect sleep (compounded by the noise).

Very clean room recently updated, spacious. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the shower was huge and the bathroom was really nice. Harry was amazing very chatty and made you feel really comfortable. Tbh all the staff were lovely and very welcoming. Breakfast is also included and it was very nice and a great selection of beers which is open Hours to guests. Having a night porter available at night allows you to come back at any time and just buzz in. All the rooms have different names which is a nice touch instead of numbers. Overall I had an amazing time and I will definitely book there again. Customer Service is Definitely at the forefront of the Black Lion Hotel.

Nothing. It would be hard to find any faults.

Great that the hotel is connected to a bar, staff where all amazing and really friendly, pub area excellent, facilities all nice in room, check in and out fast, breakfast great and fresh, daytime food also really nice and great price, area around nice with lots of bars and restaurants. Must try east z east restaurant.

If i had to choose negatives, there was not many at all but we wasn’t a fan of the check in area being at the bar as it was quite busy when we checked in so felt a bit awkward with our bags, also no lifts, room a little bit dusty, only thing i would say is the cleaners are really loud when cleaning the rooms shouting and where blasting music at 10am, we stayed a few days so this did wake us up, maybe just be aware of guests still sleeping, also parking nearby quite expensive but not the hotels fault. Dart board in bar does need replacing too.

Was nice overall but our room the Cathedral was small. Little space between the bed and the wall. We regularly banged ourselves or the TV as we passed. Breakfast was nice and included in the price, small cost if you want more than a small Breakfast. Staff were all pleasant and looked after us well. We got it at the discount price for £122 which was a good price.Would have been disappointed at £170 due to size of room. We would visit again but ensure room was larger as picture shows.

Small room, minimum space to get to bathroom from the right hand side of room.

The Black Lion was really good, excellent location, just a couple of minutes walk from The Arndale and Deansgate, the staff we were greeted by were very nice, helpful and friendly, the pub is good with plenty of tv’s and a good selection of drinks at reasonable prices too, just up the road was a small Asda( ideal for essentials),along with a burger bar(excellent burgers)and Moroccan steakhouse, unfortunately we didn’t try there. Our room was ok we stayed in the Rathbone, the bed took up most of the room so it was a bit of a squeeze to get past the bed and tv on the wall, but overall it was very clean and tidy. The bathroom was very clean and modern, the shower was excellent, tea and coffee facilities were a bit basic but overall we were very happy with the room, especially for what we paid!!The breakfast was also very good with a good selection, the full English was enough for me to start my day!!

The only issue I had was regarding the advice I was given regarding car parking,I emailed The Black Lion and was told there was no onsite parking but they had an arrangement with QPark to get a discount of £10 for parking and to ask the staff for a discount ticket. When I asked staff they said they knew nothing about the discount even though I had an emailed reply stating it was available. The car park cost £27 for overnight parking which left us a little disappointed. This is not an issue against the hotel I just think they need to update the information they give regarding off site parking.

Lovely modern room with everything you need for a short stay. The man who welcomed us was super friendly 😊 breakfast was good. The room, although smallish, was spotless. Shower room was also spotless. Obviously been newly renovated. We were on the second floor so other than people coming and going it was really quiet and you couldn't hear anything from the bar. Location was great, we had an event at the AO arena and was a 6 min walk away.

They had a modern Venetian blind up but no curtains which meant the room wasn't dark, which meant I didn't sleep well. There was also a constant green light on in the room which added extra light. My husband slept well as light doesn't bother him so it's personal preference, but I really couldn't get to sleep which spoilt the experience for me. 😴

The location, cleanliness and stuff are fantastic. Really white towels, clean linen, nice shower.

I hesitated to write the review as I don’t like to mention problems and spoil the statistic and average rating, but it’s 2 hours since I can not sleep cause of the terrible nose of the beer cooling machine outside. Being from a pretty far place with 3 hours difference 10 pm is the time I’m dying to sleep and it’s a disaster not to have this option as the sound is soooo loud that even can not me smoothened with the earplugs. I advise the hotel to notify the guests before checking in about this problem, as what we are paying for is the comfortable rest and sleep.

Great location, walked in to the City twice which took 15 minutes... Just far enough out and peaceful at night. Great rooms and nice to have a buzzing Bar downstairs and Food at Lunchtime.

Chef had slept in so no cooked Breakfast, offered breakfast at a sister Hotel but didn't have time as was attending Remembrace parade. Staff were great though and good location. Used the Lime Scooters parked outside, but they don't allow you to get into the Centre of Manchester, they are locked to a zone in Salford - bug shame... used them, but largely useless.

The room was large and clean with a clean bathroom. The bed was comfortable and had nice sheets so we slept comfortably and I had confidence that it was nice and clean. Tv provided was good. Clean kettle provided in the room with tea and coffee. Lovely shower in the bathroom with easy to adjust temperature. Despite being in the city centre and on a main junction the room was quiet throughout the night and other than the hallway you don't hear other guests. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Breakfast in the morning was very good, they provide a selection of juice and cereals as well as hot breakfasts, both meat and vegan. My husband had the meat and enjoyed it, I had the vegan and also enjoyed it. My only issue is as a vegetarian not a vegan I would prefer there to be an in between option that isn't fully vegan. However it was very tasty and I enjoyed it. The location of the hotel is very convenient only being a short walk into the main area of Manchester or the tram/trains at Victoria. Overall this is a hotel I would stay in again if staying in the city again and we very much enjoyed our stay.
