Our stay at The Thick Forest in Sigiriya was truly special. The treehouse, located in the jungle, is peaceful - you can hear nothing but jungle sounds - and has a great view of Sigiriya and Pidurangala Rock, both just a 20-minute walk away. Nandana, the manager, welcomed us warmly, even though we arrived late in the evening. It was off-season, and we were the only guests, but he still offered us dinner and drinks. As a former chef, he prepared delicious Sri Lankan breakfasts and some of the most tasty rice and curry we had during our trip. Nandana also took the time to show us around, driving us to the Dambulla Temple and to Polonnaruwa and stopping along the way to point out interesting places and animals. One of his recommendations was an Ayurveda massage spot, where we had the best relaxing massage after a long day of sightseeing. What impressed us most was that Nandana wated with us in Dambulla at the end of our trip, and talked to the drivers ensuring we found seats on a bus to Colombo. This incredible hospitality and warmth of Nandana and other hosts was a moving experience we had again and again throughout our trip in Sri Lanka.

A unique stay in the jungle. The treehouse was good fun to stay in. There was hot water, mosquito nets and a delicious breakfast every morning. The hosts were fantastic, really going above and beyond during our stay - making us a home remedy when one of us was sick, calling a bus in the rain for us and checking our well-being during the hikes. The bike hire was brilliant to explore the local lakes and the hikes to the rocks were within walking distance. You will need a tuk tuk home from restaurant due to the risk of wild elephants at night.

Don’t expect Wi-Fi here as in the jungle.

The location of this property was exceptional - it is literally located in an area with a thick tree cover, and offers views of Sigiriya from the room! It is a 5 min bike ride away from the centre of town which means it offers a respite from the noise and crowds of the town while still being accessible. The caretakers were amazing - they arranged our bikes, helped us figure our itinerary, directed us to a secret lake (which you should ask them for!), made us lovely breakfast everyday and offered us an early check in.

The rustic nature of this property really suited us, but it is not meant for those who are used to staying only at hotels. Because it is in a forest, there will be ants around despite all the precautions taken.

Our room had a beautiful view of Sigiriya, and the forest ambience was really nice and refreshing. The toilet facilities and AC also worked in wonderful condition. The staff were very nice and the breakfast they prepared us when a mixture of English and Sri Lankan food, delicious!

I personally had no problem with the bed, but my friend found it slightly uncomfortable. Other than that, the accomodation is really a true forest. The rooms are built up on the trees, and although we knew and felt it was safe, sometimes when we would walk or turn on the AC and heater, the floor would shake. There were also a couple insects that got in our room. For a quick stay to see Sigiriya, it was pretty good.

The place has amazing views of Sigiriya. We can see both Sigiriya Lion Rock and Pidurangala Rock from our room and from breakfast place. I guarantee this place has the best view in town. Also, on the way to town, if you're lucky, then you may see a giant elephant 🐘 and so many butterflies and birds. The place is so peaceful and located in the forest as its name but not far at all from town and restaurants. It takes 5 minutes by tuk-tuk (the host will call tuk-tuk for you with a good price), or you can cycle as the host provides bicycles for guests. I'm so thankful to the host, sister and little boy who helped us during our stay. They're so friendly, honest and helpful. I highly recommended this place. You'll be not disappointed at all.

Great location between Sigiriya, Pidurangala rock and Thalkota lake. Owner was very helpful throughout our stay. Owner's name gave us multiple benefits as most locals knew him. Cycles were available (some free, some with additional payment), and having bicycles made our stay more memorable and commuting easier and fun. Breakfast was good and value for money. Easy check-in and check-out. Very flexible and helpful staff.

Location didn't have proper signal connection. Confirm the price upon arrival to avoid any unexpected surprises.

We had the treehouse and it had breathtaking views of Lion Rock & the other rock (forgot the name). It was such a novelty! Nandana, the manager was such a legend. He sorted any issue we had and was extremely hospitable :) we miss him already! Meals were very LARGE - Sri Lankans certainly make big portion sizes. Oh, and the fact we could use bikes to pedal into town - fantastic idea :)

Hot water system didn’t work for our shower but cold showers were still good :)

Most hospitable host - made 2 young girls arriving at night feel very safe. Breakfast was amazing! He was also very helpful facilitating our sunrise hike, giving us loads of advice! Went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable eg we had just got off the plane, jet lagged and tired so he ordered in local (amazing) food for us & offered to let us shower after our hike even though we had already checked out

There was no room for toiletries in bathroom which was an issue as it was a wet room (easily fixable by having a cupboard!) & no sanitary bin in the bathroom. Photos didn’t most accurately reflect our room (we didn’t stay in one of the treehouses)
