The Cottage is a tranquil oasis. Set deep in its lush, green surroundings, it is a world away from the grit and noise of the main road. Peacocks cry, birds chirp, lizards scarper and families of monkeys leap from bough to bough. Lion Rock and the town of Sigiriya are a pleasant bike ride away, but the pleasant, helpful staff can arrange tours, tuk tuks or taxis to destinations near and far. There’s all the free wifi that you need, but this is the ideal environment for a digital detox. It’s a peaceful place to read or just to chill, there are hammocks and a plunge pool to cool down. The restaurant serves some excellent dishes, particularly their koththu. The bungalows are air conditioned and kept spotless. I highly recommend the Cottage and would happily return.

On a month long trip to Sri Lanka, filled with beautiful places and accommodations - the Cottage holds a special place in my heart. We spent two amazing days here, and later in our trip we decided to go back for 5 more. From the kindness of the staff, the excellent hospitality, the pool that was somehow always the right temperature, the location in nature and all of the life that surrounds it - we had a perfect stay. The gentleman that cares for the plants, pool and grounds works all day making sure the place looks great and the pool is always clean. The chef makes great food, and the Sri Lankan breakfast was excellent. The location is a short bike ride from town, or if you have your own tuktuk as we did it’s about a 5 minute ride. It’s in the midst of the jungle. In our days there we had encounters with every type of bird in Sri Lanka. Monkeys of all varieties. Even Elephants. The near by lake, which you will drive by the signed path to, is a must at sunrise. Walking further down the road into the farmers fields (stay on the road, don’t walk on their crops) will yield incredible sunsets with peacocks calling in the background and a clear view of lions rock. Bungalows are simple, clean and comfortable. The staff went out of their way to ensure we had a great experience. We will most certainly return here in the future and highly recommend it to others. There is more to see in Sigiriya than you think, and a couple of days at the cottage is a great base to explore and relax. Mama, the local dog running around is very sweet. If you’re a dog loving traveler as I am - take care of her and show her some love. She’ll keep the monkeys off your tuktuk 😉

Nothing, our stay was perfect. We can also see that the hotel reads these reviews and uses them to improve. For example, sunbeds now have comfortable mats.

Great staff who were very helpful, approachable and knowledgeable about the area. They were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious. The grounds and the surroundings are beautiful and the pool is lovely. Fantastic Sri Lankan breakfast!

The main issue was the WiFi. It was poor with very low speeds and low signal strength. The other issues were minor ones, such as the air conditioning being a bit difficult to control (too strong or too weak). A hairdryer in the room would be a nice, small addition. The location is beautiful and quite convenient for Sigiriya but the last 5 or 6 minutes of the drive leading to the hotel is a narrow, bumpy gravel road which is not good for cars (no issues for tuk tuks, motorbikes or 4WD vehicles).

the grounds are gorgeous,, you could really see and feel the investment of the staff. the rooms were clean and spacious, the fact its located in the middle of the jungle meant we had " visitor" in the room during the night... but once we opened the light it was gone. the staff are above and beyone , we came in the middle of the night and they located an alternative room for us till our room was ready .

the shower is nice and good looking , but the decision to put small pebbles on the shower floor was not comfortable to say to least. the sri lanken breakfast i'm guessing suits the local taste. for us was a bit harsh :) . the conntinental one, was satisfactory. the location is remote from the city center and even our local driver found it hard to find, again the staff were super helpful in directing him.

I spent two nights at The Cottage, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The room was great, with comfortable bed and a great pool. The food was really good, and service was amazing. A particular thank you to Priyanka and her team who made me feel ever so welcome during my stay. The location of the property is approximately a 5 minute tuk tuk drive away from town, and the property has it’s own driver, so I never had to wait long for a lift. Priyanka arranged transport for me to get to Lions Rock to see the sun rise, and the driver brought me back to The Cottage after. The property itself is in a beautiful jungle location, away from the hustle bustle of town, surrounded by beautiful gardens and plenty of wildlife to watch and keep you entertained. I would definitely return when I come back to Sri Lanka.

It was a nice stay at "The Cottage." The environment was peaceful and very relaxing. The swimming pool was very clean, and breakfast was excellent. The room was clean, and the bathroom was spacious. The staff was friendly and helpful.

At night, it's important to be cautious when traveling to the hotel due to the presence of wild animals. However, once you're inside, the hotel feels very secure and safe."

We couldn’t ask for a better start of our trip in Sri Lanka! Everything was great, from the welcoming of the staff, to the environment surrounding the place, to the organization of activities around Sigiriya. Priyanka was the perfect host, she helped us with everything we needed (organizing tuk tuk, taxis, safari, day trips to Anuradhapura and Dambulla) and she speaks very good English! As one day we were the only guests in the cottage, she also showed us Sigiriya by bicycle and told us stories about Sri Lanka and Sigiriya. The food is simple but good and genuine! Breakfast can be Sinhalese or continental, always accompanied by fresh fruits and a hand made juice! The room is spacious and simple, the bed is comfortable.

Really great stay with the kindest staff which we have ever met. Place is beautiful, with nice pool and perfect garden. A little bit far away from Sigiriya city center but it is definitely worth to stay there. Breakfast in two options: continental and typical sri lanka’s. Both very good. There is also an option to order something for lunch or dinner. Additionally in the place there is very kind man who offers his tuk-tuk to any location you want. We traveled with him to Habarana and Danbulla and he also helped us to catch a bus to Polanaruwa or Kandy. Hotel accepts paying in cash only.

Beautiful place to stay. The staff couldn’t do enough for you, they were so friendly and helpful. They very kindly organised us a taxi from the airport and there was no bother when we missed our connection. Throughout our stay they also organised us Tuk Tuks to anywhere we wanted to go. The food was delicious and very well priced. I would highly recommend the Sri Lankan breakfast. The pool area is lovely and a nice place to relax after visiting Sigiriya.

I wouldn’t complain about anything, but it is quite remote so you probably wouldn’t be able to walk out after dark anywhere. But this didn’t bother us!

The best place we stayed in Sri Lanka so far ! A small piece of heaven middle in the nature! Thanks to Prasadi and Asanka we had a great experience and we really felt like home the three nights we stayed at the cottage! The room was super clea, new and comfortable. They adapted the rooms to the environment around and use alternative energy resources to heat water and supply the cottage with water. The food in the restaurant is delicious! (Especially the Sri Lankan breakfast!). Every single person we meet were super friendly: The two ladies of the staff Priya and Bashia went with us for a walk and showed us the area. Chamodya climbed with us the piturangla rock to show us the sunrise ! They also recommended us a cooking class from ,, Sigyri organic cookery” where we could harvest our own fresh organic vegetables and prepared 11 different delicious curry’s together with Chami & Chaminde. We can highly recommend that too !..Asanka showed us also around and booked a really good safari for us where he came with us and explained a lot about this beautiful creatures. All in all the stay at this cottage was one of the best experience during our Sri Lanka trip ! Beautiful people and place ! Absolutely perfect! Thanks so much for everything!
