Pros: Very intimate setting, with only 9 rooms, each one with a particular and unique feel and decor. Very quiet despite being in the city center. Location is unbeatable, just feet away from the castle. The restaurants are beautiful and great. Staff was very friendly and attentive.
Cons: The bed was somewhat small for a couple (but I'm used to sleeping in a king-sized bed) and the sheets were a bit stiff. I also would've liked a shower for comfort purposes, but the bathroom decoration is one of the--if not THE--highlights of the room.

After glamping in a pod in the highlands, we booked The Witchery last minute--couple hours before we checked in--to pamper ourselves and rejuvenate before touring Edinburgh. The guardsman room was spacious with a large hall and three rooms and a bath. Great views outside the windows. The temperature was perfect--many places we stayed we had a hard time regulating this. Heated bathroom floors and a soaker tub perfect for relaxing after walking all day. The Dyson hair dryer came with many attachments including a diffuser for my curly hair! Hair straightener was also available--such a welcome touch! The breakfast had many choices and option to dine in restaurant or eat in sitting room. We chose sitting room and it was delightful. Spread out like royalty! Hotel was very close to shops, food, and the castle we were visiting. The staff held our bags, carried our bags, and helped us take them across the street when checking out. While it was very upscale, the staff were down to earth, professional and friendly. All of the furniture was comfortable and the chilled bottled water and chocolates were a nice touch. Turn down service was available as well.
The mattress was a little too firm for my liking.

Stunning, unique property. The Turret room furnishings truly made you feel like you had been taken back in time to another century. Loved feeling part of the hustle & bustle of The Royal Mile and the view beyond to the Firth of Forth & Fife was an unexpected additional treat. Being able to park & leave our car at their sister hotel, Prestonfield, was a huge bonus. The concierge staff there were very welcoming & efficient which has enticed us to perhaps try a short stay there too.
For over £900 for a one night stay I thought there would have been some nice complementary wine & good bottled water in the room on arrival rather than just bottles of tap water. The Garden Restaurant is beautiful & atmospheric, no doubt about that, but we found the menu very limited unless you’re a fish or game lover. The breakfast was … ok, but none of the items tasted great. The best part about breakfast was the charming gentleman serving that morning who showed a genuine interest in why we were there & what our story was. Kind, discreet, efficient, friendly breakfast service. Being asked to pay the postage for the small, silky scarf I’d left behind to be forwarded on felt a little mean considering the price of the stay.

Beautiful historic suite in a beautiful historic location, but with great modern amenities, and helpful attentive staff. We went there for our anniversary, and loved it, and would recommend it to anyone. We stayed in the Armory suite, and we loved the busts of the alchemists, the pictures of the kings of Scotland, and the steel plate armour helmets you can pick up. Not sure they are really historic though :) The restaurant is great too if you can get a reservation, but be sure to reserve early or you will miss out...
expensive, but there is no better place to stay in the old town of Edinburgh, so worth it.

The room and hotel were fantastic. Loved the traditional furniture and decoration. The location is the best in Edinburgh and right on the castle. The food was amazing and the service was second to none. When eating in the garden restaurant for dinner, I noticed that the stone floor had melted candle wax right under where I was sitting, this transferred onto my suede boots. The staff took them away at end of the night and professionally cleaned them for me and they came back as new. What more could I ask for!
Would have been nice to have a bar area to have pre and after dinner drinks, we really missed this being on site although there are plenty of other outside options to choose from.

Both breakfast and dinner were excellent. Especially the men's service was the best. Women are not good enough.
Correspondence of woman of receptionist is not good enough. Thanks to the staff for carrying our luggage up the steep stairs.

The Witchery is likely unparalleled. Right from the moment you book you are treated like an esteemed guest. The staff was so incredible kind, especially Paul. Paul was able to accommodate a sudden change in plans (I was booked for two nights and ended up needing three), and did so in a manner that was flawless and saw me roomed back to back without having to wait for the official check-in time. The entire staff is lovely and absolute gracious. I imagine they would be able to fulfil any need. I was there during the coronation and they made sure to inform me, and were also available to assist with logistics should I need help. The rooms are stunning - I stayed in both the Old Rectory and the Sempill. Both were unbelievable and well serviced. The Old Rectory overlooks the Royal Mile and is at the foot of the castle - it contains three rooms, all of which are comfortable and well stocked. My favourite aspect of this room was the bathroom, and the view. The bed was very comfortable, and the desk was well placed and perfect for work. The Sempill is like your own flat, which multiple rooms and a long hallway. It is extremely well stocked and contains a kitchenette. The entrance is in a private close and just down the street a bit from the main Witchery building. The food is incredible. The breakfast, which is complimentary, is genuinely stunning. You will not go hungry in the mornings. They provide a room service option that is more basic, but both were absolutely wonderful. I was a huge fan of the Witchery Tea Blend, and probably drank my weight in tea during my stay. I can't describe how worth it the breakfast is. I do believe you get your money's worth staying here - between the comfort of the rooms, the food, and the incredible staff, you can't go wrong.

The Witchery was amazing and exceeded our expectations. A fantastic experience to stay in such a historical building so close to Edinburgh Castle. Our suite was beyond expectation and breakfast in the room was never ending. We also dined at the Witchery which was a fantastic experience, service was second to none, and all staff were polite and professional. We will definitely be back one day.
I am struggling to find anything to type in this box, we had an amazing time.

Very nice breakfast in the extremely gothic and cozy dining room. Highly recommended!
The suites is situated right on the Royal Mile. We didn't know that there would be so many tourists there, so we got a bit surprised about the location being in the epicenter of all the tourist attractions. We could have done our research of course, but if you're looking for calm surroundings, maybe look elsewhere.
