It's all about the location. The room was bright, a decent size and clean enough if you didn't look too close. But it was just a little too "basic" for the price.

Everything was okay but nothing really stood out either. No front desk staff (didn't see anyone in 4 days). Very bad sound proofing from the street - I was woken up regularly as people walked past at night. A few shelves or coat hangers would have been helpful. I honestly don't have too many complaints, except that for the price, you just got the bare minimum. You pay for the location.

Perfect location!! Tucked away on a quieter side street but directly downtown near Broad Street, the Radcliffe Camera, High Street, the Covered Market, etc. Easy walking distance to most main attractions (5 minutes), food, and buses if you want to go anywhere farther. About 5 minutes walk to the Gloucester Green coach station with connections to London and nearby airports. Around 15 minutes walk to the railway station. Simple but cute and you can’t beat the location.

Convenient location….in the centre of the city but extremely quiet area. Perfect location for visiting the New Theatre! No noise or disturbances through the night. The property had a lot of character and there a friendly welcome when we arrived. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Lovely towels and plenty of toiletries, tea, coffee, water etc

The bathroom could have done with a bit of a better clean- some black/mould spots and hairs on the floor and in the shower. However, it was generally very clean and we would stay again.

I'm a sucker for historical properties and this was a delightful find. The room was small for a double but we managed perfectly well even through last minuet ballgown alterations. It was comfortable and cozy with a beautiful view of part of the university. The street was pretty quiet at night and while i'm not usually keen on shared bathrooms the facilities were in good condition. I would like to stay again just to properly experience the area more and the convenience of staying so central and to get a better feel for the property as a whole. It was also quite funny to hear the local tour guides during the day and the buzz of the students and locals.

While the property and location were great I would advise caution if you are traveling by car. I booked expecting little parking however it was worse than expected, please do your research if this is a deal breaker. There was no parking in the immediate area, small dead end roads are common. We had to park ten to fifteen minuets walk away in an expensive car park and get up very early to move the car to another carpark to avoid the inner city clean air tariffs. We also had to leave early to avoid this when leaving. None of this is the fault of the property but it is something to keep in mind if like us you are traveling with a lot of luggage or even children please be aware.

The location is perfect, very easy to find and very close to the coach station, bus stops, high street and Westgate. A small walk to the rail station but nothing dramatic. Ship St is a lovely quiet little street with some nice places for coffee and food but only 50 yards from the main streets in Oxford. The building is (as you would expect for Oxford) very 'period' so bursting with character but modernised in just the right ways, very clean, and the staff were very helpful. Very comfortable bed and the room was a good temperature despite the weather being a bit rubbish outside. Being a very old property perhaps not for you if you are over six feet tall though unless you remember to duck the beams!

Nothing of note. The shower was perfunctory (due to the age of the building plumbing was never going to be ace) but it was hot and wet so did its job, certainly not a complaint point.

Old building steeped in history very centrally located. Great value for our short stay. Warm, cosy and full of character. Tv and tea and coffee made it a comfortable stay. Very close to Christmas markets and great pubs (we loved the turf tavern - was busy with old traditional English charm). We enjoyed our stay very much.

It is an old building therefore not modern but it was exactly what we wanted to enjoy the history and beauty of Oxford.

Highly recommended.Rigth in the middle of the city center where it all happens, yet a quiet spot away from noisy street life. Quaint house refleçting that typical style of that period. The room is comfortable and eloquantly decorated and fitted out.

Carpets are outdated, laminated wooden flooring would take the room to a different level of style and design. In the bathroom the shampoo holder was broken and came of the wall. The shower gel was empty.

The house is beautiful and it feels like you are staying in a part of the history of Oxford. The amenities are fantastic and the room was spacious and incredibly clean, with beautiful white linen and gorgeous furnishings. There was a TV and a kettle for making coffee or tea in the morning. The location couldn’t be better, as it’s so central but the room was still incredibly quiet. The view from my room was also stunning.

The shower in the ensuit room could be improved but the rest of the room is so perfect that it more than makes up for it.

Room absolutely lovely and had everything we might need including a fantastic view and being surprising quiet despite the central location. The manager/housekeeper were both really helpful in allowing us to leave luggage before and after check in. The location is unbeatable- in the midst of the ancient splendor of the colleges but a minutes walk from shops/restaurants. Would love to stay there again - especially if my son is lucky enough to get into the university!

Booking.com had emailed to say that money would be taken before my stay - it was all a rush so I did not check or realise that it was pay on site. I actually checked out without paying - luckily I had luggage to collect so paid then. A bit embarrassing but the manager was lovely about it!

The historical building is incredibly charming while the rooms have a homely, cozy feel. The location is unparalleled - right in the centre within easy walking distance to many Oxford must-go locations.

I am a taller man (over 6') and the ceilings can be on the low side. However, this is due to the old construction of the house, and I love it nonetheless.
