This was a cosy weekend getaway for my birthday and it was perfect. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful food. Cosy and tasteful decor. Beautiful little spa with sunken hot pool. Extremely professional massage therapist. And the building itself is nestled against the mountain with stunning views over fields and horses out to the Westman Islands. Wonderful!

If I had to nitpick, I would have preferred firmer pillows and as a couple it would have been nice to have a sofa we could snuggle on together. But to be honest, we were so relaxed and comfortable, these hardly seem with mentioning.

Amazing hotel, beautiful furnishings. Friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful food. We also used the stables at the hotel and went for a horse ride into the stunning mountains above. Lovely horses and great stable staff.

I would score this hotel as 10/10. However, the shower room was really poor. Shower curtains that stick to the body do not work. The wash basin had no space or shelves to place a wash sack / make up bag. The bathroom needs a heated towel rail. We arrived with very wet (technical) clothing and boots that were still wet by the morning as there is no heating source to dry them by. Towels and robes also didn't dry out. The room also needed a coffee machine. A 5* room should not offer just instant coffee. Sorry to be so negative but a heated towel rail, glass shower screen, shelf by wash basin and a coffee machine would make the world of difference to such an otherwise amazing hotel.

Have you ever enjoyed a place so much that you didn't want to write a good review of it for fear that too many other folks might start staying there? That is exactly how we felt about our stay at the Skalakot. From the moment we pulled into the drive, to the moment we left, we enjoyed EVERY aspect of our stay here. The setting is beyond picturesque and having the Icelandic horses coming and going is an authentic addition that really makes the experience that much more unique and unforgettable. The property itself is immaculate, the food was outstanding, and the staff was absolutely superb in every regard. For those of you planning your trip to Iceland and planning on staying in Reykjavik the whole time, the Skalakot is worth a trip to the South Coast all by itself (and there are plenty of other amazing things to see on the South Coast as well!). We always like to leave one area for improvement or a small critique in every review, but the only thing we could come up with is that the Skalakot is just too far away for us to visit more frequently! Plan your trip to Iceland around a stay at this little gem, you will not be disappointed.

Absolutely no critiques or areas for improvement.

This was our favorite place we stayed during our time in Iceland. The hotel is in a gorgeous location nestled at the base of the mountains surrounded by picturesque fields. The staff were exceptionally welcoming; when we checked in the receptionist took the time to show us around the property and walk us up to our room. The interior design is very cozy and charming. The restaurant is also excellent. We didn't stay long enough to use the pool and sauna, but it looked very nice. We hope to come back!

Enjoyed the spa, breakfast, horses, and decor of the place.

Room 101 (our room) and 102 are on the first floor adjacent to the dining room only buffered by one door and about 5 feet of foyer space. The door to the dining area is opened and closed by guests accessing the rooms on floor 2, so there’s a lot of door closing and slamming noises which was not relaxing during our stay. The door action is particularly busy in the morning. In addition some guests don’t close the door so these rooms are exposed to even more dining room noise. I don’t recommend these first floor rooms to anyone at this time.

Beautiful location with amazing views. Fantastic spa. Friendly staff.

A bit disappointed. This was our most expensive hotel in our 7 nights 7 hotels stay in Iceland and the rooms did not really live up to our expectations. Our bathroom was minute, there was no mirror in the room except for the tiny one over the bathroom sink. At dinner we waited for ever for our food. It was my birthday dinner but after waiting so long, I did not feel like having pudding…

Breakfast was a huge spread of fresh bread, sliced cheeses and meats, salmon (my fav), salad vegetables, fruit, skyr with healthy toppings, cereal with assorted milks. You can walk around to see the sheep, horses and cows in the adjacent fields. In early June, bonus to see the babies animals (so cute!) The best part of the visit is the horses. The stable is right there on the property so you can meander over. The guides are extremely friendly and helpful - especially to beginners. The trails are spectacular. No question about it, worth every krona! And at the end of the day, there is a hot tub and sauna in a small building with beautiful views. Hard to leave!

Our room was on the ground floor near the dining area. The was a door, but if it was left open, which people mindlessly did, you can hear the large tables laughing and carrying on.

In all my years of traveling, spanning 35 countries, this easily ranks in my top 5 spots I have ever stayed. I can't even find the right words to express the joy I felt every second I was there. I only wish my stay could have been longer. From the second I pulled up to the property, I knew I was in for a treat. The service, dining, and thought that was placed into making you feel at home was beyond anything I ever could have imagined. The sauna/steam/jacuzzi room was truly incredible and dinner at the restaurant inside was the cherry on top. To management and staff of the Skalakot, thank you so much for making one of my final nights in Iceland so memorable. I hope to visit Iceland again just for more time at the Skalakot. Wow... what a truly unforgettable experience.

Nothing. Perfection. A magical 24 hour stay.

I loved absolutely everything about this manor. It was refined-country, cozy, crisp, and sophisticated-for-Iceland without being pretentious or minimalistic. Painted wooden panels, lush couches and beds that you sink into, spacious bathrooms. Beyond the decor being truly attractive, the staff was always smiling and helpful. After a freezing trip under the Seljalandsfoss waterfall's spray, I felt my extremities again in their clean sauna and further rejuvenated in the pool looking directly out into the landscape. Food was delicious with intriguing combinations of tastes. Parking was free and plentiful, access from the main road was simple, yet removed from the fray. I highly recommend this hotel/manor.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and varied; the grandma's pancakes are a must-try! We were also lucky enough to witness the Northern Lights during our visit, which was an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend this hotel – you won't be disappointed!
